Thanks for posting. I'm a little asleep at the wheel today I can't believe that they would use a clue like that and not expect some idiot to tear apart a bunch of flower beds. Incidently, a SSP city counsel member told my wife where it is. She won't budge on even a hint to me though. Which is better I guess except I wonder how many others can be as quiet as she is. I see this thing being found before Friday.
I'm not even sure who it is or if my wife's even yanking my chain but I can see it though. I don't want to get anyone in trouble about it if it's true. I agree that it's sad if it is true though. I already passed on my thoughts that there should only ever be one or two people at the most that should only know about the wearabouts of any treasure no matter how small. Human nature (and a few beers) makes it highly probable of a slip up the more people that know then the whole thing is shot. I do remember it being found like by clue 4 last year. It makes you wonder except the 3 clues so far are pretty easy and should be found by a neighborhood local like OT just looking out his window.
what is the prize this year? I was glad I didnt even bother with that hunt that Jake and Marley did (I think North St Paul?) found way too fast -and the Mpls hunt? geesh that was a bunch of BS!
Not sure on the prize yet as it will be in the local paper delivered this week sometime. Pretty sad if it's found even before you know what you win. P.S. - That's one scary-ass avatar you got there me2. Damn! Take a picture, it last longer. ;-)
I wasn't intending to get anyone in trouble. I was just curious if we know the same people. I know most of the council people. We used to get all of the clues at the start of the hunt at the place I worked. Then we would post the new one each day. So anyone who had access to the safe could read all of the clues in one sitting and pretty much know where it was.
Looking out the window, but don't see button. Guess I'll have to get off my butt and take a walk.
I don't know much about SSP but what about this...
Pro Pharmacy window and at this site.
its right in front of the dang Pharmacy - one-of-a-kind has to mean something right there - it that Pharmacy right near the center of town? just a thought
So anyone who had access to the safe could read all of the clues in one sitting and pretty much know where it was.
Wow, that's ass backward don't ya think? You'd think that they'd want the thing protected a bit more so it goes on longer inspiring more participation each year. Hearing stuff like this makes me not even want to get into the hunt as I would pretty much assume that there was someone out there with an unfair advantage. I knew that as soon as I mentioned the city counsel member thing that even if I did find it I might not be too credible in these parts regardless of how honest I was. That's why I think I'll rearrange the kids room today instead of heading out and looking for the thing.
Pro is right across the street from Central Square. I think it has to be somewhere that cars can't travel though because they mention by foot or bike. And there is a path through the park at Central Square.
Go for it Clue Master. Don't worry about it. No one thinks you have an unfair advantage and we're the only one who knows about your friend the council person (Jane Rund?) and we're not telling.
Thanks OT. The member isn't my friend though. They're my wife's. And I don't know the name anyway. I think I'll just walk through that Central Square for the hell of it anyway after I hit Guertins for those bricks.
I like you CM- if your gonna go to my husbands competition the leaset you can do is spell their name wrong ;) keep me in mind though for the bricks-I understand if you dont have room to grab them though
no I wasnt kidding - I want at least 20 but 100 would be nice- we actually wanted the regular St Paul bricks but they cost more than we have. I tried to get bricks from 3 different places in the last year- 2 from old old old houses and another time from an old fire dept- all restoring and kept their bricks or got rid of them :( So-if anyone wants to get rid of their bricks -preferably free to me and I will haul them-please call me.
SSP used to give them away from when they tore up Concord Street and also from the old Armours or Swifts buildings. I'm not sure if they still have any but you should call the Public Works Department. And if they laugh at you, don't blame me. :)
We got the basement dry and clean just in time for tonights flood. did you ever have to carry wet carpet up out of the basement and out side yuk what a mess.
We got a little water in our basement too. Thank goodness for wet/dry shop vacs!
Somewhere while I was slogging, I saw some misinformation that should be cleared up here.
The Winter Carnival had nothing to do with the original coolercrew.com site. That was the generosity of the St. Paul Pioneer Press that paid for the site with the permission given to Greg Sax to be the webmaster. It was strictly volunteer effort on his part and some of us volunteered to type up some of the old articles and information he had so he could move it to the website. We never had a meeting of any kind - except the pre-dig and rehash bashes.
It was when the Knight-Ridder sights went to the new format that the coolercrew.com site was no longer paid for by the PP and became available to us again. Greg turned over the pages he had on the site and ares and Marley King put it back together again.
The Winter Carnival never had a thing to do with the site.
Boy am I glad for sump pumps (and power for that matter). If the houses weren't required to have them, I'm sure that I would be buying one since it's going off quite often.
Anyway, it turns out that my wife was just yanking my chain on knowing where that SSP button was located. She read my posts and didn't think that I was actually that gullible I guess. She does work with a SSP city council member but that person didn't even know what she was talking about when my wife told them how she got me. They knew about Kaposia Days but nothing about the treasure hunt. -Or so they say - :-)
They do know alot about SSP parks though. So I'll definitely use them for input. Between them and OldTimer's input, we should be OK since I don't know much myself other than my hunting today. Here is a picture of the park that most fits the current clues. It's by the courthouse halfway up the hill. It has flowers and hills going up and down from it. Not sure about the name of it although it does have a plaque dedicated to war vets at center. Maybe tomorrows clue will shed more light on which park it's in. There really isn't that many parks in SSP. I went to all of them today. If it isn't in this park it makes me think that it's just on city property because they haven't actually said it was in a park yet anyway.
P.S. - before anyone else says it.... Yes, unfortunately my chain is the only thing that my wife has yanked lately :-(
That would be Lawshe Park. Old man Lawshe was the first president of the Dakota County Historical Society. My mother was the treasure/secretary and he would come and sit on our front porch and go over the minutes and books with my mother. That was years ago when I was just a little girl. If you had aimed your camera up to the top of that hill you would have gotten a picture of me! I live directly above that park. Too bad I didn't know you were that close today Clue Master. I could have used a hand taking some boxes up to the attic. :) If I remember correctly though, I think it was found there one other year. But then I am old and do get confused sometimes. I might be wrong about that.
so CM? did you look thouroughly around that area? it looks very nice.
Terry- I did attend meetings at the Landmark center downtown for volunteering -we all sat around a huge long table (like 20 people). This was like 1998. I don't know if there was already a website at that time-just that the guy was so adament that he would take care of that area of volunteering. It was the actual Wintercarnival.com site I believe NOT the coolercrew.com website -if that makes a difference- I may have said the wrong site in the other post.
It was a blast actually- we met up at that place at Ramdolph and 7th too for free pizza- Phatoms? thats where they gave me the volunteer pin that I sold to Ian :)
Thanks OT. I like when a certain crop makes a picture look all quiet and serene when in fact it was all tore up just out of frame and loud as hell from all of the road construction going on. Too bad I missed you. I would of been happy to give you a hand with your boxes. Reg and I are heading out at 11:00 and will probably start at that park depending on the clue. Planning on heading down to that spot along the river you mentioned where there's a geo-cache too. Look for us about 11:15 if the clue still fits. I'd also like to check that stone wall under that courthouse back parking lot again. Lotsa hiding spots there. Plus there's flowers and hills as well.
It's not a big park me2 and I think I covered every inch but who knows. And your right about the chain yanking. I obviously left out two very crucial letters in the word 'has'... n't. OOoops :P
By the way, who is this Medallionis Venator person?
That picture of the park is where they hid a medallion years ago in the first Kaposia day treasure hunt. That is the spot that I had mentioned in an early post. I know a few council members there-Tom Seaberg for one OT. I played hockey with Phil and Larry. I went to school at "central park" when it was central elementary. a few names u might be famialiar with, Francis, Pietruseski,Albright,Funes,Kalhammer,Kramer,
Do I know any of them? The Peta's are my neices and nephews! Their mother was my sister. And the Francis kids call my Auntie also. My oldest son went to school with Tom Seaberg. Did you know any of the Schmidt's?
Under a sign in a city park, there you will find your "Razzle Dazzle" mark.
There are signs in most of the parks and the one at Vet's field stands out for me. And there are flower beds planted in front of these signs. Vet's Park is on 15 Ave. and 4th St.
Of course there is a sign at Kaposia too. And there's a Spruce Park on the south side of town but no hills. Not any hill to the east of Vet's either come to think of if. Try Central Square. "In the center of town". If all else fails, just go to all of the parks and look in the flower beds by the signs.
Good luck!
Hey, stop and City Hall and they might have maps of the city that will show you where the parks are. City Hall is the same as the court house and the police station. Lawshe still sounds good to me but it was already there and would they hide it there with all of that road construction? Maybe that's why they say by foot or bike though. Hard to drive around there.
Thanks OT. I'm meeting Reg out at Kaposia right now and that sign actually sounds pretty good. I didn't want to think of an obvious park like that but it does have the hills up and down from there. We'll keep you informed. Kaposia Park
Well they found the thing early yesterday at the park that I was at all day. EErrrrrrrr! Good news is that it allowed Reg and I a chance to play some disc golf. Bad news is that Reg got all wet looking for a disc and breaking his cell phone while I think I ruptured a rib from an off-kiltered drive. After screwing my old-assed self up, I teed off at the next hole where I just plain collapsed. I'm glad Reg was looking where my disc went (stuck up in a tree nonetheless!) I set up an appt to be seen but they can't see me until 5:15! Damn! I can't even sit here without F-in hurtin.
Waaa, Waaa, Waaa
Toughen up soldier!! Anyway here's a couple of shots from today.
I bought a pool for our back yard on Sunday- if we wouldn't have done that it wouldn't have rained so much!
The rain didn't stop Alibabas and I from splashing in her little pool yesterday. It was just like a sauna outside, I couldn't resist.
Little roaster just went outside to play and found a half eaten bunny on the side walk :( anyone want a cat?
oh man! :(
ours eat bunnies too
well, I think maybe he just killed it cuz now I'm hearing crows and I think they are the one's that are tearing it apart :(
Clue 3
Near the center of town,
hidden by flowers,
the best way to spot the button
is by looking down.
Now I'm thinking it might be around Central Square. There are paths and gardens there. 6th and Marie Avenues.
Once again, it is about two blocks from my house.
You headin out to look OT?
Thanks for posting. I'm a little asleep at the wheel today

a SSP city counsel member told my wife where it is.
That's pretty sad!
So what council member do you know? I may take a break from my cleaning and take a walk up that way. It usually is found early.
By the way, who is this Medallionis Venator person? Sounds as though he/she has been in this town almost as long as I have. Maybe it's someone I know?
found in 3 clues just plain SUCKS!
and it may not be in a flower bed but below a photo or mural of flowers
So what council member do you know?

The prize is probly the one of a kind button ;)
Thanks me2 ::sniff sniff:: I needed that

cool old bricks on the shoreline past Harriet Island. I think they were dumped there by the old Brickyard.

Aghh not more rain no no noooo.
Dawg says we should fill the basement up with water and have an indoor pool.
I'm gonna start building an ark if it doesn't stop raining soon.
How is your basement Frosti
It's got water in it, but not a lot. Enough to make the rug squishy when you walked on it.
My drain backed up the water was up to my ankles it dry now tough we went and got a wet dry vac a nice investment.

goodness that looks like a good spot too :)
an obvious one -I am learning the obvious should not be overlooked
EYE SPY...a park sign ;)
i like "eye spy" as a tagline better than "i see you" :)
