Sparky and I went to The Dead show yesterday at Float-Rite Amphitheater. Great show, even if it did go too late in the evening for some.

Set 1: Silvio, If You See Her Say Hello, Tweedle Dee & Tweedle Dum, Watching the River Flow, Highway 61 Revisited, Most Likely You'll Go Your Way And I'll Go Mine, Drifter's Escape, Bye and Bye, Honest With Me, Summer Days, E: Rainy Day Women

The Dead's set:
Set 1: Music Never Stopped, Dupree's Diamond Blues, Minglewood Blues, Big River *, Desolation Row*, Johnny B. Goode*, Iko Iko, Althea, Cosmic Charlie

Set 2: Jam > New Speedway Boogie, Brown Eyed Women, She Said She Said, Cold Rain & Snow, Smokestack Lightning, Eyes of the World > Drums > Space > Standing On the Moon, Samson & Delilah, E: We Bid You Goodnight

Sigh.

Is that a "I wish I could have been there." sigh, or a "I can't believe you like this filthy hippie music." sigh?

The former.

I haven't been to a dead show since 1993.

It was well worth only getting 2.5 hrs of sleep. :)

I haven't been to a dead show since 1993.

They're back, and in rather good form, I thought. The new guy who's filling Jerry's guitar shoes did well. Joan Osbourne was a great addition to the band as well. Bob Dylan's set was quite hot, literally and figuratively.

Oh sure. You know I'm jealous and yet you continue to rub it in.

Hiya Sparky, I'm not sure we've met.

The only slightly off note that we noticed was that Dylan seemed to be a little out of sync when he joined in. His synth/keyboard didn't quite mesh, jangled me a little - and he seemed to be forcing the old songs, like Desolation Row, vocally.

I still have Eyes of the World running through my head. :) Joan Osbourne has a wonderful voice and really lent some colour, I thought.

I'm pretty sure we've not. :)
I'm an old college crony of Frosti's, just started hanging around here to see his brew page - and got caught up in the forums.
I try to be amiable, but don't always succeed...

Pleased to meetcha'!

Welcome to PF, then.

Any friend of Frosti's is a friend of mine. You're also welcome at my forum Sense and Sensuality, if you want to talk (or read) intelligently about sexuality.

I knew hanging out with this guy would pay off eventually. :)

I would love to drop by S&S, thank you for the invite - but work frowns on these topics. Maybe in my off-work hours (If both of them aren't booked...). :)

Yeah, well, sorry about that. I'm gonna try to get a copy of the show once it starts circulating. I could probably be convinced to drop it in the mail, if you're interested.

Why sure!

Did you save my address from the coffee?

Sparky, you're welcome after hours, too.

Mon, 08/04/2003 - 1:08 PM Permalink

No, I couldn't read your writing on the coffee. It looked like a chicken or some other South American bird type thing had wandered over the address section.

Bwahahaha. At least it was delivered safely to you.

When/if you have the tape, lemme know and I'll email.

And don't think for a minute this gets you out of mailing me beer.

Oh, I wouldn't dream of cheating you on the beer. I'd be too terrified of your wrath. ;)

In the mean time, here'ssome other stuff I've currently got on disc. Let me know if there's anything that interests you there. You too Sparkster. Check the primary, SHN, and MP3 lists, cuz they're all different.

Lots of stuff there. If I ask for an MP3 but don't have a player (I might, that fancy radio in the car is supposed to be compatible), do you just convert it or what? Just curious. Mighty kind of you to offer, sir! Looks like some good stuff, I might want to ask you your opinions of which are better, etc.

54 minutes and I get to go home. Thank Divinity.

Mon, 08/04/2003 - 2:08 PM Permalink
Frosti

The MP3 and SHN formats are largely for trading, not listening. I'd convert either to regular audio, at no extra cost to you. :)

Don't think I really want to know what SHN stands for, today at least. Brain has fried.

I would not suggest you come into my forum and insult one of my friends because she argued with your ex. Unless of course, you feel ballsy enough to back your play. Or you can delete. Whichever you'd prefer.

Other than that, I'm just as sweet and agreeable as they come.

OK, not to mock the people who are in the blackout, but check out the "other supplies" this guy's got on the bottom of his cart!

Victor Lafata, left, co-owner of the Yorkshire Food Market helps Bob Powell take water and other supplies from the market to Powell's car on Thursday, Aug. 14, 2003, in Detroit after the biggest power blackout in history hit steamy U.S. and Canadian cities Thursday, stranding people in subways, closing nuclear power plants in Ohio and New York state and choking streets with workers driven from stifling offices. Powell was taking the supplies to co-workers at the Bob Maxey Lincoln Mercury dealership where he works. (AP Photo/Paul Warner)

I would have bought whiskey or something that doesn't need refridgeration, myself.

I realize in this folder that's a travesty.

But speaking of beer, last Friday we bought a keg from the new Bogota Beer Company microbrewery. A classic ale. Very tasty, altho I prefer their porter.

Only kidding there old chum. Sorry. You are, of course, perfectly correct.

Amiable - got a chance to read through several of the threads on Sense & Sensuality - quite interesting reading, and I will have to find some time to make a post or three this weekend. I enjoyed it, thanks for the invite!

Bogata beer - don't think that has made it up here as an import, eh Frosti?

Fri, 08/15/2003 - 8:18 AM Permalink

Def not. They don't even bottle it yet, just kegs in restaurants and their own pubs.

Think you can ship a keg out via APO? ;)

$6,573 for that keg o'beer. :)

We're gonna bid on the consulate in Munich for the 2004 cycle.

How do you like Germany? My husband has spent time in Berlin, Frankfurt and various Army bases there, and he loves it.

I have been here since April after one year in Italy...and really like it. So much nicer than anything I saw in Italy (lived just outside Pisa...in Tuscany).

This country is very clean...they drive fast but controlled and follow the rules of the road. The food is great...and the beer is even better.

A few of us from the office are taking the train to Munich on Sep 26...for a Friday at the Oktoberfest. They ain't got that in Italy!

Doesn't make a lot of sense. Does it run all fall?

Thu, 08/21/2003 - 2:33 PM Permalink
Hey-Moe

I only runs for 3 weeks...the last week in September and a couple in October. I think it starts on Sep 22nd...but I'm SURE it will be going on Sep 26th...the day we are going.

I'll take pictures...and after several liters...if I don't lose the camera...I'll post some pics.

I went on the last Saturday back in '85...and remember it to be a complete insane situation...12 football field size beer tents and most every seat taken by when we arrived at noon.

We are going on a Friday this time...early in the fest...so probably won't be so tough to find a place to sit.
