By the way, if anyone recalls me talking about my friend in West Virginia, she's coming here tomorrow morning!

I do remember AW. Hope you guys hit it off real big. I'm sure you'll show her a great time.

take her for a walk out back ::nudge nudge::

VJ - Unless the Vulcans have more than one truck, I see it stored down on Concord by a large city-type garage. I assume since you seen it in front of a bar you wouldn't of needed to look far to find the guys out on the town. Just look at the rest rooms and see if the names have been changed. If so, they're there somewhere.

Yipppeeee!!! It's Finally Friday!!!!

Allison - How long will she be here? I know you've made some big plans for when she's here. Hope it all works out even better than you hope.

Plus Reg, you ever get a disc golf birdie in 3 feet of snow?

Uhh well... its still fun! Not nearly as much as summer tho. Winter DG is all about a good time, freezing, and shattering frozen discs. You should know all about that mister runner-up in a Sno Bowl :)

Nice meeting your friend, even though I forgot his name.

oh wow AW -I can't wait to hear how everything goes.

the band I went to see the other night is called the QUINCY PUNKS I think that is who they were. They are a punk rock band been around the area for 13 years and traveled to Japan and California-they played at some "3 rock" bar on Cedar in Mpls west bank. ...well, I was unprepared at the time. I stuck out terribly. I didn't have hot pink hair or a bullet belt! the slam dancing was an expeirience to watch close up -a few poeple were pushed into me but I came out unscathed :)

I attended a wedding last night at a ritzy country club golf course in Brooklyn Park. Open bar til 10 (free beer & wine til 12)-dancing til 12. hangover all day today! havn't had one of these this bad in years!

Details: she has short brown hair -she wore a satin off white strapless dress with no lace but gold shiny embroidery along the bodice and bottom of the dress (floor length). Bridemaides had light brown/cream strapless dresses (same color as in my wedding).

Wedding was on the white tent covered terrace overlooking the golf course with 1 million dollar homes on the other side. 8 pink Mandavilla vine plants at the alter. approx 120 people.

20 red roses in large vases on each of the 15 tables. Strawberry/white and Raspberry/Chocolate cake from Buttercream desserts...mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm! I had Prime Rib with wild rice and fresh cut greenbeans - Mark had roasted DUCK. Kids had french fries and chicken fingers. oh yeah-did I mention open bar :)

gonna go take another Advil and some water... see you all later

Just back from the Summer Sanitarium concert with Metallica and friends. Damn am I lucky to be here and alive. Wow! Fun time kicked ass except one of the guys from the Deftones had to go to the hospital for some reason so they didn't play as scheduled. Oh, well. Mudvayne, Linkin Park, Limp Bizkit and Metallica kicked ass nonetheless!!!! Damn tomorrow's gonna be rough.

Hell yeah, CM... I wanted to go to that show so damn bad... dunno though.. 80 bucks is alotta money for floor tix... I have yet to see Deftones, Bizkit, or Metallica yet... As far as Linkin Park goes though, their lead singer can take a flying leap off a tall building... that dudes an a-hole, the couple times Ive actually gotten a chance to meet him...

Anywho... as long as ninjas are posting about their music shiznit... the other night (Saturday), me and Shaggs went to First Ave to see Esham, and AnyBody Killa (both from Psychopathic records, ofcourse) put it down... Esham tore it up... them ABK hit the stage and the place was SOOOO damn hype... man.. that juggalo rocks ass.... BUT... the headliner... was none other than ICE T and his band Body Count... hell yeah.. I said ICE T.... what the hell man... I swear to god, they ripped 1st Avenue a new butt-hole..... my ears are still ringin a couple days later... DAYAM....

Next up...
Twiztid in september at the Quest.. thats gonna be the shit too, and ofcourse... ten days after that, is The Wicked Wonka Tour, at Target Center starring a buncha wicked ass, bands, along with none other than the clowns themselves. Its gonna be my first time of actually seeing them at a "big venue".. Ive been waitin a long time for that, man....

Hell yeah.

hahahahahahaa - Frog Pond

and actually the Quincy Punks were pretty good---rephrase that...the actual music (drums guitar and vocals)=awesome---I didn't like the words. Lots of anti American and hail the devil. The main singer looked like Bruce Willis. Lots of evil tatoos and naked upper bodied middle aged slightly overweight men .

OT

Hmmmmmm. Is there something wrong with slightly overweight, middle aged men?

I know one of the guitar players for Shadz of Gray and Grant Hart who used to be with Husker Du. Imagine that. An old broad like me knowing band members. Husker Du was actually a really hot band in it's day. Grant is a neighbor of mine and still plays and records. The guitar player is on my sons' soft ball team.

Yes, float-rite is in Somerset. The float-rite amphitheater is the place in question.

I thought the set that Dylan performed with his touring band was totally hot. Most of his stuff was off of Love and Theftand sounded great. He played Highway 61 during that set and the encore was Rainy Day Women.
He sat in with The Dead for a few numbers, and I found his weakened, growly voice was kind of jarring in that setting.

Mon, 08/04/2003 - 8:12 PM Permalink
Wicked Nick

How was The Dead? What stuff did they do?

Did they actually put seats down infront of the stage, or was it all open area?

Every concert ive been to there, hasnt had any seats... I think its way better for that... Float Rite Amphitheatre is actually one of the better "venues" around here, in my opinion.. I think its cool too, that when you read on alotta bands websites, when they post about "on the road updates" or whatever... alot of them refer to that place as one of the best stops on tours.

The Dead's set:
Set 1: Music Never Stopped, Dupree's Diamond Blues, Minglewood Blues, Big River *, Desolation Row*, Johnny B. Goode*, Iko Iko, Althea, Cosmic Charlie

Set 2: Jam > New Speedway Boogie, Brown Eyed Women, She Said She Said, Cold Rain & Snow, Smokestack Lightning, Eyes of the World > Drums > Space > Standing On the Moon, Samson & Delilah, E: We Bid You Goodnight

Comment: * with Bob Dylan

They were great, in my opinion. The first set was very festive and happy, with the stuff like Iko Iko and Johnny B. Goode making for a great sunny outdoor festival atmosphere.
Then, as they started set 2, the sun was setting over the top of the amphitheater, the moon was already visible, and they threw down some mind blowing jams. Very cool. And that Joan Osbourne can really sing. Great addition.

I hadn't been to an outdoor show in a long time. I'd forgotten how great it is.

Tue, 08/05/2003 - 4:32 AM Permalink

Yeah, nothing like an outdoor concert. Unfortunately, a lot of the ' inexperienced travelers' from Minnesota seemed to get nailed for anything under the sun on their way home. I guess it really doesn't bother me personally but I do miss the days when those big concerts used to be at Trout Air and Navy Island. That annual BluesFest show in Duluth is pretty good too.
Although you can't beat the topography in Summerset for those dual-staged mega-shows. The hill between them is perfect to somewhat isolate both stages, giving them each their own feel and identity. Kinda like 1st Ave and the 7th St. Entry is for small clubs.

First off---Trout Air is being turned into a Galyans?

2nd--can Frosti or someone post the lyrics to Highway 61 in the Karaoke thread? thanks

3rd---Frosti? did you see Anika won another trophy the other day?
haven't seen it but can only imagine :)

4th--THX-shnukums? Ares thinks it is always about him yah know ;)
