I thought it was funny how much Urlacher suffered when that fatass tackle (Washington) was out hurt last year. He had to shed blockers more often and that made him look mediocre at times. = )

QUOTE OF THE DAY

From former Bears and new Bucs QB Jim Miller: "I loved Chicago and [coach] Dick Jauron, but the organization didn't think I could come back from this [arm injury] in time. Obviously, they have the right to do that, but now I have the opportunity to stick it up their [expletive]."

QUOTE OF THE DAY

From Redskins coach Steve Spurrier, on the propensity of football coaches to see the the Gatorade jug as half-full: "Every coach thinks they have a better team at this time of the year. No one says, 'We think we're worse.'"

Thanks for the link Stewartfan. No I did not get spamed. Sorry to hear that happened to you. I do not post on any of the other boards. To much fighting and I hate the format. Besides I think JT has a great site here and I like the people that post here. I sent you an e-mail, but I think I know the answer to the question I asked you. ;^) I am glad Rush wants to play and I thank the others that also sent e-mail. When Yahoo opens up for registration, I will get it set up and let everyone know. Looking to have a total of 10 people.

Rush,

Send me another e-mail Wolvie911@Yahoo.com or have Bud send it to you. If your e-mail to me ends up in my "bulk" folder, yahoo sends some there depending on where they came from, I will not open it. That file gets automatically deleted. Don't worry Rush, we will get you signed up. Let me know if you do not have it by tomorrow night at this time.

BUCS PLAYERS WANT TO PUNT PITTMAN

In response to the recent revelation that Wednesday's probation revocation hearing for Buccaneers running back Michael Pittman is not likely to result in his incarceration prior to the start of training camp, a league source tells us that "lots" of members of the Tampa Bay roster want the team to dump Pittman.

Said one player, "Hitting your wife and kid with your ride is not cool. I don't care what the bitch said or did."

Pittman has been charged with two felonies after ramming his Hummer into his wife's Mercedes Benz. Also riding in his wife's car were Pittman's young son and the couple's babysitter.

Pittman faces a legal double-whammy in the wake of the demolition derby ordeal. He's been charged with crimes resulting from the incident itself, and he could be thrown in jail for violating the terms of probation resulting from past transgressions.

Prosecutor Robert Hubbard told the Tampa Tribune that Wednesday's hearing on the probation revocation issue merely will result in the selection of a date for the full-blown hearing, which could come "next week or two or three weeks down the road."

So until the hearing is held and the judge makes a decision, Pittman will be free to participate in training camp practices in Tampa.

But the question that no one previously has asked is whether his teammates want him around.

Perhaps, as indicated above, they don't.

ANGELO TELLS JAURON "PLAYOFFS OR BUST"

One of our Chicago moles tells us that Bears G.M. Jerry Angelo recently had a five-hour sit-down with coach Dick Jauron, during which Angelo explained that if the Bears don't make the playoffs in 2003, Jauron will be out of a job.

The relationship between Angelo and Jauron has been strained of late, and it's questionable whether Angelo actually needed to tell Jauron something that everyone else in the league already knows.

Per the mole, Angelo personally doesn't believe that the Bears will make the playoffs this year -- which finally will give Angelo the chance to hire his own guy to be the team's coach.

Of course, this assumes that Angelo also will survive for another year. We've previously reported that ownership could jettison both Jauron and Angelo is the Bears stink it up this season.

Chris Claiborne Fan Q&A
Monday, June 9, 2003

Welcome to the Vikes! What has been your impression of the coaching staff so far?

Paul Musto
Somerset, NJ

Claiborne: Very hard-working, and dedicated. The best thing is it is fun out here, they have fun. When you’re playing football, you definitely want to have fun.

Do you like the fact that you are still in the same division?

Mike Krawczeski
Mahtomedi, MN

Claiborne: Yeah I love it, I definitely love it. It’s known as being a hard-hitting division. It’s about making hits, and hitting hard.

What is the greatest asset that you bring to help solidify a Vikings defense that has struggled in the recent past?

Scott
Maple Grove, MN

Claiborne: Versatility, I’m going to be moving around a lot. I’ll be playing everywhere on the defense. I’ll be able to make big plays, get picks, and sacks.

What lead to your decision to join the Vikings and what goals do you have for the up-coming season?

Clyde Lynard
Pennsauken, New Jersey

Claiborne: I was happy with the off-season moves they made. They made great off-season moves. They made the team better, which is important for teams to do in the NFL. Our team defensive goal is to be in the top 10 in defense.

Many athletes have a ritual for game day. How do you get ready for the high intensity and emotion on Sunday?

Rob Chen
Columbia, Missouri

Claiborne: No, I don’t really have any rituals. I always talk to my family, and that’s enough for me.

How do you feel you made this team better, and how was the transfer from Detroit to Minnesota?

Scott B.
Munising, MI

Claiborne: I think versatility is how I will make the team better. By being able to put me in different areas, it gives the coaching staff flexibility. It was a fairly easy transition. It’s in the same division, so you play the same offenses.

Welcome to Minnesota and we are excited to see you on the field this fall...Tell me how your style of play fits into the defense here in Minnesota.

Howie
Hopkins, MN

Claiborne: Very hard-hitting, very aggressive hitting. We’re very high-energy, high-impact. You already have a guy like that here in (Chris) Hovan, and I just want to add to that.

Who do you most look forward to playing with on the defense? With the likes of Hovan and rookie Kevin Williams, I can see you guys creating havoc around the QB.

John Johnson
Belgrade, MT

Claiborne: I look forward to playing with (Greg) Biekert, Hovan, Kenny Mixon, (Henri) Crockett, basically all the guys. There is a solid veteran group here on defense, which makes it easy for me, who’s still kind of young to make the transition.

How hard is it become a starter on the Vikings team and earn respect from everyone since you just joined the team? What must you do to accomplish it?

Brandon
Kaneohe, Hawaii

Claiborne: You have to make plays. They have been playing against me, so they know I can make plays. The guys welcomed me with open arms, so that hasn’t been tough. What you do in practice, determines who you are, what you’ll be like come Sundays, and how you’re going to contribute.

With so many new additions on defense, how is the chemistry developing, both on the field and in the locker room? Also, do you have any nicknames?

Pete
Minneapolis, MN

Claiborne: My nickname is Clay. I think the biggest thing with this defense is just getting to know it and learning it. And guys are doing a good job with that. As far as chemistry, that is what developmental camp is all about. It’s a time to get closer to the guys.

Did the fact that Minnesota is a division rival, and you would be playing your old team twice a year have anything to do with your decision to go there?

Scott Lloyd
Las Vegas, Nevada

Claiborne: No. I think the biggest thing was that I realized I have a chance to win here, which is more important then anything.

Who do you pattern your playing style after?

Jay Fehrman
Woodbury, MN

Claiborne: I like a lot of guys. I think Lawrence Taylor was definitely one I looked at, especially since I’m moving back to the outside. I think for hitting I look at Mike Singletary. Those are the two guys I look at, when asked who do you want to pattern your game off of.

Do you see the Vikings using a 3-4 scheme at any point this year and if so; do you feel that this would suit our personnel?

Joseph
Tuscaloosa, AL

Claiborne: Yeah, I think we can do a little bit of both. I think we have the versatility to do that. This would make it tougher for the opponents to scheme against us.

How has the transition from middle to outside linebacker been?

Joel Jager
Waite Park, MN

Claiborne: It’s easy. I did it in this league when I started out with Detroit. So it is real easy.

Stewartfan,

Do me a favor and e-mail Rush the info on the league that I sent you, if you have his address. I have not recieved anything from him. It is a race between him, Sloop, Jonathan and Geno. I have not heard anything back from Geno but I am pretty sure Jonathan will join. So hurry and get in Rush. Looks like a good group this year.

Everyone else,

Any of you interested in playing for money? We usally all chip in $20 or $25. Winner gets 100 or 150. Then 2nd and 3rd split the rest. If not no biggie, we just play for fun! I like it either way. Let me know what you think.

I agree jethro! If the coach you want is a proven winner and you want him, what's the problem? Why interview a bunch of people you know you are not going to hire? This is BS, if you ask me.

In the case of the Lions, everyone seems to have behaved with admirable candor, despite the NFL rule. The team indicated that it was interested in a famous white coach, Steve Mariucci. The Lions say they contacted five minority prospects for the job, but all five declined to be interviewed because they knew about Mariucci. One of the five, Detroit offensive coordinator Sherman Lewis, said a token interview for the sake of diversity was demeaning.
