1999 Pioneer Press Medallion Hunt

Submitted by Casey Trauer on

It's time for the Medallion Hunt! The first clue will appear on PioneerPlanet just after midnight Saturday, Jan. 22. Come back here to compare notes with other treasure seekers, but be certain you read the rules on the Planet's Winter Carnival page.

Step, I must say you try hard. "Rupe-rink" is the retareded brother, not rupert thanky you very much. Oh, and knuckle dragger. Kind of prehistoric but I like it. Now

answer my question. You can't possibly say that the 945 clue rules out Como.

How about Fort Snelling State Park? Blast from the past would refer to muskets; flying refers to the airport.

I would like to shoot down this whole KS95 thing, or at least attempt to. The 95 and sunny station is not a sponser, while Rock 100 and K102 are. Wouldn't the PP

and Winter Carnival work with their corporate partners? Just a thought.....

rock - you can make crazy ideas why clues fit in any damn park - because they all can - if you let them fit....

dave, that would be too easy!!! this is supposed to be hard as you can see. ks95 is shown-- somewhere a 4 is the 94.5 call #'s for the station.

It is not at COMO!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Fort Snelling State Park is in Hennepin and Dakota counties. Medallion must be in Ramsey County. Also, clue says Saint Paul park, so I would think Ft. Snelling ,

which is run by the state, would be ruled out. However, Hidden Falls is directly accross from Ft. Snelling....

Fri, 01/29/1999 - 4:27 PM Permalink

Good thought Lindsay, but I thought it was decided that the park was in St. Paul Proper. Fort Snelling, and the park, is a seperate city.

Hard to believe, huh?

I second Mr. Stone on that one. After all money is what this is all about. KS95 is not a sponsor of the Winter Carnival. Hmmmm

Where is the medallion?Newell, Linwood, Como, Highland, too many choices!

Fri, 01/29/1999 - 4:29 PM Permalink
Moss

Highland, because there is a golf course and some other stuff that I am not going to tell you guys and como is given too much publicity!!!!

Fri, 01/29/1999 - 4:30 PM Permalink

I can't help but think that hours posted on a door might be the answer. My co-worker believes that clue refers to Battle Creek, where the medallion was found 4

years ago in 1995.

Fri, 01/29/1999 - 4:31 PM Permalink
The Rock

Ok here goes. This is why i say its at newell park. In clue 4 it says "but there's VALUE as WELL as IN the NEW. VALUE=medallion/location IN=its in AND

WELL+NEW = NEWELL. now for the iconoclast now that can be referred to the devil. the 9 the 5 and somewhere a four can refer to the ks95 radio tower. The 4

comes in at its radio station 94.5. In todays clue a tome, {yes it is refered to as a book} but in the big webster dictionary it says that a tome can also be a pitchfork

that the devil has. Devils den makes perfect sence. and adorn the front door there is a little shelter with a door on it by the entrance of devils den. I was just there last

night and came across this devils den and you have to go through brush and trees to get there because the real path is covered by snow. devils den is very hard to

see but once you find the sign its pretty easy to get there. What do you think of that!!!!

why say friggin?

I don't think its in Como, because I don't want to search there. Too busy! That snow slide is really packing them in, and those polar bears and the

Conservatory--auugh!

What about Hawthorne St. at Como. That is a famous person who has authored and been in many a tome.

ok that thing said earlier about the sponser things well your wrong they do sponser the winter carnival BUT ks95 sponsers the PP. I guaranttee it!!!!

have to agree with dave except the four years ago part it says somewhere four (four baseballs fields??)

dave, i try to keep away from financial-- it gives me a headache!!! besides being in sales... well you know!!!!!

I can't help but think that the thing is in some dinky park that none of us have heard of, unless its the one across from our house. On review of past years, (I've only

been doing this for six), I noticed that these are the vaguest clues ever! Perhaps this points to a hunt for a small park, instead of a place in a bigger one. Or perhaps

this is a reflection of the big prize? Any thoughts anybody?

Vicki Kasal

So who is the person who's in lots of tomes?

Fri, 01/29/1999 - 4:35 PM Permalink

I THINK IT IS A BATTLE CREEK, BECAUSE, 3M IS A SPONSER OF THE CARNIVAL, AND IF YOU ARE BATTLE CREEK, YOU CAN SEE THE

3M CENTER, PLUS ALL THE REST OF THE CLUES POINT THERE

Pierce Butler inherited his riches from his family when they all died. He then gambled it all away, and then some. In order to get out of debt he sold all of his slaves

off. The most significant thing he's done in his life is sign the constitution

Nathaniel Hawthorne is a well-know 19th Century American novelist best known for his novel The Scarlet letter, which is about religion and its problems. It was

published in 180"4". He also wrote The House of Seven Gables and The Blithedale Romance both published in the 18"5"0s. That is why it is Hawthorne St. away

from the action in Como Park

Fri, 01/29/1999 - 4:39 PM Permalink
Lindsay

Wasn't there an old ski jump in Battle Creek that burned down? That would refer to flying....Also, St. Paul Airport in the vicinity.

Fri, 01/29/1999 - 4:39 PM Permalink
The Rock

yearned for learning means hamline high not even a block away. Oh and clue 5 just states in a small treasure chest.

If rock "nailed" it, why isn't he there?

Fri, 01/29/1999 - 4:40 PM Permalink

Newell has seen a lot of action--I'm 1/4 mile from there right now, and over lunch, there was a lot of snow sifting going on--the park looks like the surface of the

moon--if its there, it must be in a non-travelled area, so perhaps the fellow is right with this devils den idea....

Fri, 01/29/1999 - 4:40 PM Permalink

They wouldn't hide it in Newell Park, it said Newall in the clue so plainly, it was TOO easy and TOO early in the game, it wouldn't be there, and they wouldn't put it

in a small park because there are going to be thousands of people looking for this thing, they need a big park to accomodat everyone
