WASHINGTON (Oct. 25) - For most of the nation it's time to fall back.

For one night, the shift to standard time will give people an extra hour of sleep as clocks are set back one hour at 2 a.m. Sunday, local time.

It also means this is the weekend that the millions who work overnight shifts are on the job an hour extra.

For most people, though, it simply means having to remember to set the clock back an hour before retiring Saturday night.

The time change is not taking place in Arizona, Hawaii, the part of Indiana in the Eastern time zone, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands and American Samoa. All stay on standard time year round.

Daylight-saving time returns on April 4.

Sounds like I didn't miss anything last night. But seeing as how I have the gift of an extra hours sleep tonight, I may go out and gaze at the skies for a while. Especially as it is reported that tonight "has the potential to be more geoeffective". Uh, the definition of geoeffective please? :) Earth effective? Will have an effect on the Earth? In what way? A good way I hope!

ok, here's the deal....last week I loaded a ms pac-man game in my computer and ever since my puter has been freezing up, when I try to uninstall it it says: ms pac-man is not valid or the data has been corrupted. so it won't let me uninstall it, how the heck do I get rid of it?!

Sun, 10/26/2003 - 5:51 AM Permalink
KC0GRN

If the uninstall doesn't work, the solution gets rather ugly for the average user.

I've done tons of uninstalls that either haven't worked, or the uninstall routine isn't very clean. Most require a bit of work to root out files and settings the program made. And some of the things I would do I wouldn't reccomend people try on their own unless they're comfortable with registry files and things like that. Basically if you want to get rid of it properly, some of the things that need to be done can actually make the problem worse if you don't know what to look for or what to get rid of.

My advice would be find someone you know that is good with computers to take a look at it for you.

heiress of Greek shipping magnate Aristotle Onassis---

On her 18th birthday, Athina Roussel inherited an estimated $2.7 billion worth of cash, property, jewels, and other assets from the Onassis estate, to become the world's richest teen-ager.

By comparison, a 40-carat diamond ring that was Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis' engagement gift from Aristotle Onassis and valued at up to $600,000, sold for a whopping $2.6 million at an auction of the former U.S. first lady's belongings in 1996.

Alright, it's time to practice one more time before the big hunt so here's the plan.

There's going to be an extra Allison Wonderland hunt this year coming soon to a park near you, or perhaps not so near. Clue #1 is going to come out this Saturday, November 1st at 9pm (subsequent clues will be released at 6pm). There will be a special releasing event that night at the house of Northernlights (email me at AllisonWondrland@yahoo.com or egram me for directions if you want to go). She's having a bonfire that night for members of the Cooler Crew.

The clues will come out once a day after that for a total of 12 clues. This will be something of a speed hunt though in that the aim isn't to make it go as long as possible. Therefore finding it on the first clue will be a possibility, though difficult. Finding it on the second clue, will be possible, if you can figure it out. I'm not going to make it hard to find once you get to the right spot, so the winner should be whoever figures the clues out first.

The prize? There ain't going to be no stinkin prize. You'll do it because it's fun! A lot of us are poor these days and there's no need for those who aren't to keep giving away their money to hunts they don't even have time to participate in. But the winner will get a treasure chest full of the candy of their choice as a trophy (and that doesn't mean rare, exotic chocolates or such either!)

So that's the plan.

Sounds way cooler!!!! Glad there's another hunt. Maybe we'll have time to participate this time.

What operating system do you have loaded on your PC? Just from reading what you have written...
I know I have loaded a game on my PC only to find out my video card would not support it as well as my sound card. I found out later that the game could not be loaded on a pc over 4 years old. I dont know...I'm in a foul mood. Damn Vikes let me down BIG TIME!!--ouchie! :)

MV,

I think I figured it out, It wasn't the game after all. I installed that stupid hot bar thing that put's pictures in your browser bar.
Won't do that again! I uninstalled it and now it's running good. The only problem I'm having now is everytime I come back to the computer and try to get on-line, It sits for like 3-5 minutes "detecting proxy settings" before it brings up my home page, What's up with that? Does that have something to do with comcast or do I need to change a setting somewhere?

comcast as in a cable modem?

I'd check some of your internet exploder settings (no, that's no typo, sometimes what I think of internet explorer). Make sure nothing looks funky.

In a browser window, click on the tools menu, then internet options, first screen you'll see is the general settings tab. Delete the files, cookies, and clear your history. Then click on the programs tab, click on the reset web settings button. Then click the advanced tab, and click on restore defaults.

Congratulations, you have now cleaned up your internet exploder settings.

Try one of the anti-spyware programs out there. You've probably got some really weird spy application that's mucking things up. Here'sa good explanation of what's out there and what you can do about it.

I found something called "new.net domains" and uninstalled it but when I restarted my computer it still did the same thing :( I'm not seeing anything else that looks funny. Damn, I really thought that was gonna be it when I saw that in there! I had no Idea they could do that to you!

my personal opinion is that ad awareis one of the better spyware detection programs out there. download it. run it. you'll be amazed what it'll find.

I like the looks of that program Ares, but I'm kind of afraid to install anything new on this back-up computer of mine. It's finally starting to run well.

Ad Aware is great, and most likely won't slog your PC.

I have it installed on my old 233MHZ PII, that only has 64MB of RAM.

Well, that didn't work either but I checked the performance of my computer and it did help that quite a bit, it found 183 items to get rid of in there!

Have you tried removing, then re-installing IE?

Have you tried with another browser, and still have the same problem?

LL - Do you have an up-to-date virus scanner running on that machine? You could be seeing the results of a virus running around behind the scenes.

I'm good at fixing tough computer issues, but doing remote tech support on a forum is a fairly tedious way to do it, I like the hands on approach myself.

Give me that computer and I'd have it fixed up in 20 mins, unless something is truely hosed on it, but I rather doubt that's the case.
