Thanksgiving is just the warm-up, buster.

I'm sad that I ate no turkey this thanksgiving.

Thanksgiving is just the warm-up, buster.

Don't remind me. I HATE the holidays.

I'm sad that I ate no turkey this thanksgiving.

I wish I had known, I could have given you some of our leftovers. We ended up throwing some leftovers out because we got tired of it.

I hope you don't believe that. That is really sad.

I agree with Jethro
even though I gets stressed at the shopping and spending that we don't have I still look forward to cuddling up with the kids by the fireplace & Christmas Tree while sipping hotcider with Christmas lights outside on the deck overlooking the snow covered lake listening to sleighbells in the Chrismas songs - Silver Bells (for AW) and a little Bing :)

Jethro doesn't mean what he posted. He's just being a smart ass.

My Dad the athiest, stated he wanted to celebrate a "Traditional Christmas".

I was like: "What the hell does that mean, you're and athiest".

He replied that he enjoys the tree, the get together, the gifts....

The point being, it's turned into this monster that has little to do with it's orignal intent.

I've gotten to hate x-mas, I can't wait for the day I can just stay home with my family instead of running around for the whole month of december to all the stupid christmas parties that everyone insists on having, I guess it wouldn't be so bad if my parents weren't divorced!

I wish I could get away with that!
I have family members who EXPECT lavish gifts- it truly SUCKS!
one even makes a list out and you don't get anything NOT on that list. and I am tired of shopping! I have a trip to Target and JCPenney and I plan to be done!

I'm not a big fan of getting adults presents at all. It always seems to be a hassle on what to get them since most people get what they actually want anyway. I can't stand the way America has turned this time of year into an annual economic stimulus. It reminds me when Hallmark started creating all these 'Holidays' where you 'need' to participate in or you were a schmuk. My wife and I tried bringing up this adult present thing with my family and it went over like a ton of bricks. I felt like saying thanks for the crap and I hope you enjoy yours too. The presents should be about the kids anyway. We just ride their coat tails trying to relive our childhood.
So with keeping with the thread; I'm thankful for my family and friends at Christmas time (and throughout the year for that matter) but I'm not thankful for being forced into participating in a financial holiday.

Cluemaster, I'm thinking the same way you are.

This adults exchanging gifts is for the birds.

I'd rather take that money I spend, and give it to charity for people that truly need it.

Exactly! But try and give them a card saying that you made the donation on their behalf and watch the look you get. Besides, I'm the charity this year anyway. That's why I think I'm a bit more vocal about it and if it's really even necessary at all. I get into arguments with my sister-in-law about it but when I asked her if she watches the account balance while she's out and about, she said that she likes to shop and it's my brothers job to pay attention to the bank account. That's how this spending 'tradition' keeps living on from year to year. It's just a holiday for shop-a-holics. And America loves a shop-a-holic.
