When "The Map Guy" shows up, we know the hunt is upon us. I checked his web site last night. He plans on selling the guide book at the PDG and daily from the park that this year's med is hidden in. My guess is that the park that he sells at will vary from day to day.
In preparation, I've gone back and re-read past years message boards. It is kind of fun to read, actually. It is amazing how right the board was on Newell--very early Newell was suggested, with the right meanings for the clues. I know I thought it was all too obvious, along with some others, but it goes to show that the obvious can be right.
Como, as well, had some very early correct guesses, with correct clue meanings. Really kind of neat to read with hindsight.
Official PP website getting a few trickles of traffic as well.
So. Lets get some of the routine questions out of the way.
1. When do you think they hide it? 2. Do they always hide it in a park? 3. What does it look like? 4. Do you think they wait until the 2nd week to hide it? 5. When do I need to get my button registered?
1. 3:23 a.m., January 21st 2. No 3. It looks like it's mine this year 4. Only if the first one is melted in chocolate and animals come to eat it 5. Registered by the hunt, neutered by two weeks after that.
Will it be on the fair grounds? Do they hide it out on the ice of the Mississippi or Lake Phalen? When will they hide it at Powderhorn? Is that a spotter I see?
Urban legends dept-- 1. They will never hide it in Mounds. Some folks dug up the mounds, and the Indians were so angry. The city doesn't want to get sued. 2. Won't be Phalen or Battle Creek--parts of those are in Maplewood, and Maplewood won't allow it. 3. Is the fairgrounds in St. Paul or Falcon Heights? Cause on Snelling, everything south of Hoyt is in St. Paul. 4. There isn't enough parking downtown. So, they won't hide it there. 5. They can't hide it in the same park two years in a row, 'cause it makes the neighbors angry 6. If you see a lot of Park workers somewhere, you are in the right spot, cause they watch you. Any I missed?

I thought he finally sold out of them last year?
Did he do a new one for this year??
I believe it's still the old version. The web site doesn't say anything about being new and improved.
Talk about dedication sumner! Nice. It always good luck to have a newbie hunt with you. Good luck to you and her.
Hi Eags
Hello Hunters!
I hope to get to St. Paul for my aunt's 92nd birthday and to do some hunting. Looking forward to seeing old friends and meeting new ones at the PDG.
I've been researching a lot this year. Still going over books and maps and whatnot. Even printing out satellite views of all the parks.

Has it ever gone without being found?
Do you think it will be on a golf course?
How about in the Fair Grounds?
Perhaps they'll hide it in one of the blocks of ice in the Ice Palace...
