Some of us talk to God. It may be in the car as we drive to work, before we eat dinner, some even say "good morning" to God as they get up in the morning. Those sound positive where as sometimes people ask questions in a negative way when they can't believe God 'let' bad things happen in our lives. People don't usually think they get a reply. ;) and then there is a very small percentage who don't believe God exists at all. But wether you believe or not, what would you want to say?
I find myself blessed everyday which is actually funny cause I always have something to complain about.
If you had a chance to ask God anything and actually get a reply to your question or even hold a conversation where He talks back to you... what would you ask him?
The other day I went up to a local Christian bookstore and saw a honk if you love Jesus bumper sticker.
I was feeling particularly sassy that day because I had just come from a thrilling choir performance, followed by a thunderous prayer meeting, so I bought the sticker and put in on my bumper.
I was stopped at a red light at a busy intersection, just lost in thought about the Lord and how good He is and I didn't notice that the light had changed.
It is a good thing someone else loves Jesus because if he hadn't honked, I'd never have noticed.
I found that LOTS of people love Jesus. Why, while I was sitting there, the guy behind started honking like crazy, and when he leaned out of his window and screamed, "for the love of God, GO! GO!" What an exuberant cheerleader he was for Jesus.
Everyone started honking! I just leaned out of my window and started waving and smiling at all these loving people.
I even honked my horn a few times to share in the love. There must have been a man from Florida back there because I heard him yelling something about a sunny beach...
I saw another guy waving in a funny way with only his middle finger stuck up in the air. When I asked my teenage grandson in the back seat what that meant, he said that it was probably a Hawaiian good luck sign or something.
Well, I've never met anyone from Hawaii, so I leaned out the window and gave him the good luck sign back.
My grandson burst out laughing, why even he was enjoying this religious experience.
A couple of the people were so caught up in the joy of the moment that they got out of their cars and started walking towards me.
I bet they wanted to pray or ask what church I attended, but this is when I noticed the light had changed....
So, I waved to all my sisters and brothers grinning, and drove on through the intersection.
I noticed I was the only car that got through the intersection before the light changed again and I felt kind of sad that I had to leave them after all the love we had shared, so I slowed the car down, leaned out of the window and gave them all the Hawaiian good luck sign one last time as I drove away.
Praise the Lord for such wonderful folks!
Why Women Cry... ??
A little boy asked his mother, "Why are you crying?" "Because I'm a woman," she told him.
"I don't understand," he said. His Mom just hugged him and said, "And you never will."
Later the little boy asked his father, "Why does mother seem to cry for no reason?"
"All women cry for no reason," was all his dad could say.
The little boy grew up and became a man, still wondering why women cry.
Finally he put in a call to God. When God got on the phone, he asked,
"God, why do women cry so easily?"
God said:
"When I made the woman she had to be special.
I made her shoulders strong enough to carry the weight of the world,
yet gentle enough to give comfort.
I gave her an inner strength to endure childbirth and the rejection that many times comes from her children.
I gave her a hardness that allows her to keep going when everyone else
gives up, and take care of her family through sickness and fatigue without complaining.
I gave her the sensitivity to love her children under any and all
circumstances, even when her child has hurt her very badly.
I gave her strength to carry her husband through his faults and fashioned her from his rib to protect his heart.
I gave her wisdom to know that a good husband never hurts his wife, but sometimes tests her strengths and her resolve to stand beside him unfalteringly.
And finally, I gave her a tear to shed. This is hers exclusively to use whenever it is needed."
"You see my son," said God, "the beauty of a woman is not in the clothes she wears, the figure that she carries, or the way she combs her hair.
The beauty of a woman must be seen in her eyes, because that is the
doorway to her heart - the place where love resides."
:)....i prolly was one of them
The following is an actual question given on a University of Washington chemistry mid term. The answer by one student was "so profound" that the professor shared it with colleagues, via the
Internet, which is, of course, why we now have the pleasure of
enjoying it as well.
----------------------------------------------------
Bonus Question: Is Hell exothermic (gives off heat) or endothermic
(absorbs heat)?
Most of the students wrote proofs of their beliefs using Boyle's
Law, (gas cools off when it expands and heats up when it is
compressed) or some variant.
One student, however, wrote the following:
First, we need to know how the mass of Hell is changing in time. So
we need to know the rate that souls are moving into Hell and the
rate they are leaving. I think that we can safely assume that once a
soul gets to Hell, it will not leave. Therefore, no souls are
leaving. As for how many souls are entering Hell, let's look at the
different religions that exist in the world today. Some of these
religions state that if you are not a member of their religion, you
will go to Hell. Since there are more than one of these religions
and since people do not belong to more than one religion, we can
project that all souls go to Hell. With birth and death rates as
they are, we can expect the number of souls in Hell to increase
exponentially.
Now, we look at the rate of change of the volume in Hell because
Boyle's Law states that in order for the temperature and pressure in
Hell to stay the same, the volume of Hell has to expand
proportionately as souls are added.
This gives two possibilities :
1. If Hell is expanding at a slower rate than the rate at which
souls enter Hell, then the temperature and pressure in Hell will
increase until all Hell breaks loose.
2. If Hell is expanding at a rate faster than the increase of souls
in Hell, then the temperature and pressure will drop until Hell
freezes over.
So which is it? If we accept the postulate given to me by Teresa
during my Freshman year, "...that it will be a cold day in Hell
before I sleep with you," and take into account the fact that I
still have not succeeded in having sexual relations with her, then
#2 cannot be true, and thus I am sure that Hell is exothermic and
will not freeze.
The student received the only "A" given.
On September 11th 2003, a man from Norfolk, VA called a local radio station
to share his testimony about what happened to his family on September 11th,
2001. The callers name is Robert Matthews, and these are his words.
A few weeks before Sept 11th, my wife and I found out we were going to have
our first child. She planned a trip out to California to visit her sister.
On our way to the airport, we prayed that God would grant my wife a safe
trip and be with her. Shortly after I said 'amen' we both heard a loud pop
and the car shook violently. We had blown out a tire.
I replaced the tire as quickly as I could, but we still missed her flight.
Both very upset, we drove home. Shortly after returning home, I than
received a call from my father who was retired FDNY. He asked what my wife's
flight number was, but explained that we missed the flight. My father
informed me that her
flight was the one that crashed into the southern tower. I was too shocked
to speak. My father also had more news for me; he was going to help. 'This
is not something I can just sit by for, I have to do something.' I was
concerned for his safety, of course, but more because he had never given his
life to Christ. After a brief debate, I knew his mind was made up. Before he
got off of the phone, he said, 'take good care of my grandchild.' Those were
the last words I ever heard my father say; he died while helping in the
rescue effort.
My joy that my prayer of safety for my wife had been answered quickly became
anger; anger at God, at my father, and at myself. I had gone for nearly 2
years now, blaming God for taking my father away. My son would never know
his grandfather, my father had never accepted Christ, and I never got to say
goodbye. Then something happened.
About 2 months ago, I was sitting at home with my wife and my son, when
there was a knock on the door. I looked at my wife, but I could tell she
wasn't expecting anyone. I opened the door to a couple with a small child.
The man looked at me and asked if my father's name was Jake Matthews. I told
him it was. He quickly grabbed my hand and said, 'I never got the chance to
meet your father, but it is an honor to meet his son.' He explained to me
that his wife had worked in the World Trade Center and had been caught
inside after the attack. She was pregnant and had been caught under debris.
He then explained that my father had been the one to find his wife and free
her. My eyes welled up with tears as I thought of my father giving his life
for people like this. He then said, 'there is something else you need to
know.' his
wife then told me that as my father worked to free her, she talked to him
and lead him to Christ. I began sobbing at the news. Now I know that when I
get to heaven, my father will be standing beside Jesus to welcome me, and
that this family would be able to thank him themselves." When their baby boy
was born, they named him Jacob Matthew in honor of the man who gave his life
so mother and baby could live. This story should help us to realize two
things: First, that though it has been two years since the attacks, we
should never let it become a mere tragic memory. And second, but most
important, God is always in control. We may not see the reason behind
things, and we may never know this side of heaven, but God is ALWAYS in
control.
Please take time to share this amazing story with those you love. You may
never know the impact it may have on someone.
This was sent to me by one of my coworkers:
While I worked at Chevron/Copi-Nigeria I was told about a special
I'm not convinced there is one God, or any God. I would ask why I should believe God exists and that he is the only God, and why I should not believe in other Gods.
Because God said so! hehe
I'm not convinced there is one God, or any God. Then you need to do some more thinking.I would ask why I should believe God exists and that he is the only God, and why I should not believe in other Gods. Go ahead, ask God.
Rub-a-dub-dub, thanks for the grub, YAY GOD!
JBo, what do I need to think about?
I actually agree with Jethro, at least with what he literally said, possibly I'm misinterpreting his meaning. But I wouldn't consider "not sure" to be an adequate resting place on this topic. Even if you never end up being sure about anything, I think you have to at least try to figure out what to believe in. So for as long as you're "not sure", you need to think more about it. And sometimes even after you feel sure about something, you may still want to think about it as you could be wrong.
like being 'sure' about what park 'it's' hidden in?
changing minds all the time
JBo, what do I need to think about?
I suppose you can dismiss the world as being created by accident. but if not you can start by considering the complexity of it all.
Dismiss the world as being created by accident?
JBo, do you know definitively how the world was created? Do you have proof or just your belief?
Do you dismiss the notion that science played a part in creation?
How do you know that God isn't science? science isn't God?
God=science
If their is scientific proof about the Big Bang Theory -whats wrong with thinking God created it? supposedly God decided to make the world... being sarcastic here...but, He coulda woke up one day and said...hmmmm, maybe I will just make a world today and then he did---with a big bang! Didn't the Big Bang just 'happen' from no-where? maybe I can learn something here-anyone know? AW?
I hated Science back in highschool so I didn't pay too much attention. I like it now however, but don't have the time I had as a teenager to research it all. Do tell if you know more on Big Bang.
He coulda woke up one day and said...hmmmm, maybe I will just make a world today and then he did---with a big bang!
And then Adam and Eve took a bite of the apple and they all lived happily ever after.
hahahaha- a question on the radio the other day asked what the oldest vegetable to man is? my daughter thought they said "fruit" and she said "APPLE" --the first thing I thought of was adam and eve and the beginning of time and thought that was a clever answer :)
I didn't get to hear the final veggie answer- anyone know it?
Do you dismiss the notion that science played a part in creation?
The Earth was created by a mad scientist in a lab in New Mexico.
I'm not sure about the rest of the universe.
God is just some schmuck employee that works for Bill Gates and created us as programs anyway. If you've ever seen the way some white people dance, you'd understand the Sims Scenario. Kinda like the Big Bang but with a help file.
Actually, depending on the day, I'll either go with The Matrix or The Truman Show as my picks.
I'm not sure about the rest of the universe.
ask Ares since he seams to believe it revolves around him
Aladdin
"phenomenal cosmic powers, itty bitty living space"
ask Ares since he seams to believe it revolves around him
ares would be a Truman Show guy then.
believes?
Since science is defined as the state or fact of knowing or the systematized knowledge of nature and the physical world, then I would have to say yes I dismiss science as being the cause. Science is not absolute. This can be seen by the changes in scientific predictions or declarations that occur frequently. For instance, 25 years ago the scientific community seemed certain that we were approaching a new ice age. They have changed their predictions.
....everyone that believes in God accepts the book of Genesis literally. I know that some people do, but many don't. There is no reason to believe that God did not create the world in the manner that scientists have hypothesized.
well said, jethro.
String Theory Rocks!
and hurts my head
Didn't the Big Bang just 'happen' from no-where? maybe I can learn something here-anyone know? AW?
To the best of my knowledge, even the Big Bang itself is just a theory. There's evidence to support it, but I don't know if you can absolutely prove it happened. As for what caused the Big Bang, I don't think there's anyway to know. At present, I don't think we even have a theoretical method of looking back prior to the Big Bang. Any evidence of what might have existed before would have most likely been destroyed in the process. The universe could have existed before, collapsed upon itself due to gravity over time into a single point, and then exploded outwards again. The energy to create the blast and all that resulted could have come from God. Maybe it's all due to some other process we don't yet understand.
If it did come from something that existed before, that doesn't really answer the question though because one can simply then ask where the previous universe came from? If our universe is really just a part of some larger universe, where did that universe come from? Frankly, to me, the idea that the universe, or whatever spawned it, was just "always there" seems much more mind boggling than to think it was consciously created by some sentient being outside the space-time continuum.
It's also interesting I think that the Bible mentions that light existed before the Earth and the Sun. My personal theory is that the creation story doesn't describe seven days of creation, but rather seven days of visions regarding the creation.
see? I knew you would come up with something profound---thanks :)
I don't think it was 7 consecutive days.
I can't remember where but some where in the Bible it say a day to God is like a thousand years to man.
They say that God lives inside us. Well, I hope He likes enchiladas, because that's what He's getting!
Sounds like a Deep Thought.
If a kid asks where rain comes from, I think a cute thing to tell him is "God is crying." And if he asks why God is crying, another cute thing to tell him is "Probably because of something you did."
Let's just say that this is not on my list of priorities at this time.
Let's just say that this is not on my list of priorities at this time.
Be my guest to tell Jesus that on judgment day.
It's true that every time you hear a bell, an angel gets its wings. But what they don't tell you is that every time you hear a mouse trap snap, and Angel gets set on fire.
One of my favorites!
Be my guest to tell Jesus that on judgment day.
Since I don't plan on seeing him, I'll let you pass him the message.
Since I don't plan on seeing him, I'll let you pass him the message.
You do not have a choice in the matter. To receive the payment that Jesus made, you must cease to trust everything else, and trust Christ alone. You must cease to trust good works, church membership or babtism. To trust anything other than what Jesus did on the cross is to say to God,"I am not satisfied with Christ's payment for my sins, and I feel I must have somthing else." Simply say to God, "I know that I am a sinner and that, as a sinner, I owe a sin debt. I also believe that Jesus Christ died on the cross in my place, and that his death paid in full what I owe as a sinner. Here and now I do trust Him as my saviour. From this minute on, I am fully depending on Him for my salvation."
Tess wrote: Since I don't plan on seeing him, I'll let you pass him the message.
With an attitude like that I doubt he has you on his calendar either.
JBo, I expected that sort of comeback from you. You don't seem capable of tolerating opposing views on this matter.
East Side Dude, you say I don't have a choice? That's your belief, it's not fact.
JBo, I expected that sort of comeback from you. You don't seem capable of tolerating opposing views on this matter.
Toleration? What the hell do you want? Do you want me to say some gibberish like, "I understand that you disagree but I respect your opinion?" Well let me tell you I don't like to lie.
East Side Dude, you say I don't have a choice? That's your belief, it's not fact.
You may not have a choice, Tess. How would you know?
You may not have a choice, Tess. How would you know?
I'm not the one making definitive statements, now am I? I was told I don't have a choice...again I state that is belief, not fact. Yet it gets stated as fact.
And yes, JBo, I expect tolerance even regarding this subject. If you can't agree to disagree, then how do you get along with anyone?
What the hell do you want?
For starters, mellow out.
I'm not the one making definitive statements, now am I? I was told I don't have a choice...again I state that is belief, not fact. Yet it gets stated as fact.
You have questions whether God exists or not, correct? But consider for a second that He does, will it make any difference what you believe?
And yes, JBo, I expect tolerance even regarding this subject. If you can't agree to disagree, then how do you get along with anyone? We are still going back and forth, aren't we? If I were truly intolerant would I still be at this?
my comment: what the hell do you want?
your response: For starters, mellow out.
Sorry, I don't do that. Ask anyone here.
I was told I don't have a choice...again I state that is belief, not fact. Yet it gets stated as fact.
You do have a choice to go to heaven or burn forever in a lake of fire.

Again, this is based on your belief.

Well it is apparent you are not willing to think about any of this. Why then are you here?
Well it is apparent you are not willing to think about any of this. Why then are you here?
You outright dismiss the notion that God doesn't exist, so why are you here?
