1999 Pioneer Press Medallion Hunt

Submitted by Casey Trauer on

It's time for the Medallion Hunt! The first clue will appear on PioneerPlanet just after midnight Saturday, Jan. 22. Come back here to compare notes with other treasure seekers, but be certain you read the rules on the Planet's Winter Carnival page.

Amy Ho....I was just testing out the simple formatting thing...sorry. Did you see the clue that points towards Mongolia...it says "Ghengis Khan was a real bad guy,

but the medallion you cannot buy, if you go to Mongolia, bring me back a tour brochure."

Hill...the rest of the clues can also point ot this but...I guess we'll see!!!

My dictionary did not mention trees for 'hrw' either. However it did say "often used in the phrase, hew to the line."

There are no line of trees at Newell. There scattered all over!

I think I'll make a trip to Newell tomorrow, maybe around noon or else for sure at 11:30 if the 8th clue points to it. Good night everyone

Why did people bring up the Devils Den earlier?

Sat, 01/30/1999 - 1:33 AM Permalink

I believe that the most recent clue, if deciphered, would lead to a literal 'sign'. Either a street sign as in Hewett St. or perhaps a sign in the park that the medallion is

buried close to. The word 'sign' at the end of the clue sticks out in my mind. Any thoughts?

I think it leads to a street sign as well, they usually start nailing down the cross streets about now or a little before. I am not convinced on the Hewitt lead as of yet

Don't have a map in front of me, are there any streets named Prosperity going into any parks?

a man of fame sounds like it could be a definition for a word.. from a tome perhaps.. any ideas?

Sat, 01/30/1999 - 1:37 AM Permalink

mark.. I know of a Prosperity St.. but not sure if it leads into a park.. oh wait.. I believe there is a wakefiled park but I think that is in maplewood..

Sat, 01/30/1999 - 1:38 AM Permalink
Jason Dreyer

I am inclinded to think that the man of fame refers to Taylor (St.) by NP. But that is probably my subconcious applying it to where I would like it to be.

excuse me but what does "trees in a line" have to do with a hedge? I think it's a word scramble. plus what about tome? could be Washington street where rice park

is. also has 4th and 5th.

Mark, if you're still on there is a prosperity park in St. Paul. It's off White Bear Ave a little ways, but past Larpentur.

why bring this up????but mark the first time i saw iconoclast as the religious image thing i thought of presentation of the virgin mary school across from wakefield

park off of prosperity ave too bad its in maplewood theres also frost lake magnet school& park just down the road in st. paul but seems too small and too much

strech for never going there.

As far as I can see it is definitely at Np but I can't rule out HP just yet...here is why... NP #1 Street names Taylor(referring to president when Pioneer Press first

came out) Fairview (mentions fair scene i believe it is in the 3rd clue) Wheeler ( 4+5+9=18...18 wheeler(semi)) Hubbard (1 block away ...former hall of FAMEr

with last name Hubbard) Hewitt from tonights clue...and PB of course...which takes care of every street surrounding NP...also like to add in Young St. which is one

block away...Brigham Young school(place of learning) Final supporting fact....tonights clue sayd relate back to earlier clues..."As WELL in the NEW" What does

everyone think?

longfellow is a man of fame. merriam park(merriam webster dictionary) trees in a line is still anything to me. I havent seen a good explanation and I dont dig the

hedge thing!

Does anyone else think that the clues are harder and/or more ambiguous this year... Looking back they seem more obvious.

Is there a way to get a detailed map of St. Paul parks, possibly on the internet, sorry this is kind of a dumb question, I'm a "first timer" in the hunt!
