7th Annual Re-Hash Bash - Noon on Sunday @ The Amphitheater

Submitted by THX 1138 on

Date: Sunday, February 8, 2004
Time: NOONish
Park: Phalen

The cooler crew is an online community that is made up of folks with a commonality that involves digging in parks in the dead of the winter and because we have this obsession in common, we find other parts of us that have commonality too. - TerryV

Who goes to a picnic in February?

The Re-Hash Bash is always open to all Diggers, Hunters, Clue-Writers and Lurkers. Discuss the Medallion Hunt, and have a good time with those of like obsession. It's a great time! The Re-Hash Bash is a family affair. Spouses and kids (even toddlers) are more than welcome! Come early, stay late and eat, then eat some more. It's a potluck deal. It really is a fun time. It helps bring closure to the hunt for the year.

  • Bring a dish to share: dessert, salad, hot dish, whatever you like.
  • Bring your own drinks, plates, cups and utensils.
  • There is usually a fire to "keep yourself warm". logs are needed !
  • Check the weather forecast on the link below, but come prepared for "changing" weather.
  • You may wish to bring a lawn chair.

2nd Annual Winter Cache/Bug Bash

King Boreas aka Ian

They won't rent us the pavilion for $110.00 so we'll use the free electricity at the amphitheater. The shelter and fire ring are only a few hundred feet away. If any of the tables can be moved, we can bring some of them over.

We'll need to shovel the stage, for use as a table.

We can always use wood.

I had three reasons to return to Phalen today:

1. check for electricity

2. check out the mosh pit

3. place some geocaches prior to Sunday

The working titles are:

ever follow the bouncing ball

monster fish are schoolin'

sounds like a conspiracy

the mosh pit

unless you are blind

neither here nor there

help it's a prank

Cool Ian, I still don't have a GPS, but I'm kinda thinking of waiting for the Rino 130 to come out. That things got all sorts of stuff on it.

Instead of The Mosh Pit, I think this year we need to take the Biblical angle and refer to it as "The Valley of Death".

For yea though I hunt through the Valley of Death, I shall find no treasure. Thy rake and thy hoe don't help me at all.

I don't think I'll be able to make it to the RHB but I'm still trying to arrange the schedule. Just a little reminder, they are also having ice racing at Phalen on Sunday. Parking could be iffy and a bet people will be wondering what a bunch of people are doing picnicing in the winter time. Have fun!

Hey! Wood is my department! I believe there may be a few of my piles left.....Oh wait a minute, we can just find some in the Valley of Death.....

tim_the_hunter

the valley of death? isn't that a bible reference? hey, there's a bible quote on the CCC monument... it therefore must be at Phalen.

Psalm 23:4

"Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me."

hehe, replace rod and staff with shovel and rake ;)

SO it sounds like Valley of Death eh :).....

Dear, we've got scraps for kindling, but we don't have any logs left. Used them all for marshmallow roasts last summer.

I'll bring a tub of scraps. They're good for getting it started.

Psst, THX, I think she is talking about the piles of sticks she left around her digging areas.

now was that the 1st, or the second medallion? ;)

Fri, 02/06/2004 - 11:31 PM Permalink
OTiS

That would be the first,

We're going to find the second one when were picking up trash in March lol.

Fri, 02/06/2004 - 11:33 PM Permalink
KC0GRN

lol so that's the real reason to help clean up Phalen ;)

Best thing about finding the "other" medallion would be that there's no reason to turn it in, making it a wonderful piece to add to your medallion hunt collection.

All my caches have been approved. There will be a minimum of 10 caches in Phalen on Sunday, and did I happen to mention that I reached 400hidden caches !

wow Ian, I'm gonna have a hard time hittin all those before next years hunt, but I was thinking of trying to hit all the hidden caches I could before then.

King Boreas aka Ian

They're not all active. At least 100 have been stolen or damaged.

Sat, 02/07/2004 - 12:17 AM Permalink

still.. that's a lot of caches.

Anyone can use my GPS or hunt as a group to find Ian's caches during the RHB. I think it would be a cooler thing to do to expose some non-GEO's to the 'sport'. It's real nice being able to actually find something on a hint for a change. Maybe Ian would lend out his GPS as well. Just remember to bring something small to exchange. The kids will love it. Especially if you see it but let them actually find it. All GPSers should bring theirs. I need to fill mine with fresh batteries.

CM - two questions...

1. I have a 4 and 5 year old. This a good deal for them as well?

2. What sort of things to you trade?

Clue Master

OTS - I have a 6 yr old and she loves it. I'm not sure what Ian has planned but the Geocaches are usually nothing more than various Mikkey-D toys. And if you're like me, you already have an over abundance of these things to begin with anyway.

Ian clarify. Buttons or kiddy?

Damn dude - Go to bed already ;-)

I'm used to saying hi to the PP guy every morning. What's your deal?

Someone has to keep the cable system running.

The "clues" containers are smaller than a pop can. These have tokens, old coins, and small trinkets.

One cache is a 30 gallon garbage can full of board games.

One cache is full of CD's and cassette tapes.

Cooler :)... I look forward to it.

What do ya think Ian? Some people might not be sure what to trade. Could you specify a size for the newbies? Given the hunt this year, I'm sure there will be plenty of people willing to go hunt for a cache during the RHB>

Plus they get to find one of your prized caches?

Bringin' meatballs and weenies in home-made BBQ sauce.

Bringing something I can't explain lol. Sorta a tex-mex style chili. Not con carne but the best tasting stuff for eating in the cold!
