7th Annual Re-Hash Bash - Noon on Sunday @ The Amphitheater

Submitted by THX 1138 on

Date: Sunday, February 8, 2004
Time: NOONish
Park: Phalen

The cooler crew is an online community that is made up of folks with a commonality that involves digging in parks in the dead of the winter and because we have this obsession in common, we find other parts of us that have commonality too. - TerryV

Who goes to a picnic in February?

The Re-Hash Bash is always open to all Diggers, Hunters, Clue-Writers and Lurkers. Discuss the Medallion Hunt, and have a good time with those of like obsession. It's a great time! The Re-Hash Bash is a family affair. Spouses and kids (even toddlers) are more than welcome! Come early, stay late and eat, then eat some more. It's a potluck deal. It really is a fun time. It helps bring closure to the hunt for the year.

  • Bring a dish to share: dessert, salad, hot dish, whatever you like.
  • Bring your own drinks, plates, cups and utensils.
  • There is usually a fire to "keep yourself warm". logs are needed !
  • Check the weather forecast on the link below, but come prepared for "changing" weather.
  • You may wish to bring a lawn chair.

thought I'd log in and say WOW!! I just wish I would have gone to the Pre-Dig....

NEXT YEAR it will be one of us I just know it....Good things happen to good people.
I want to thanks sooo many I feel like me2 and her speech so I'm not going to even start saying names.....

OTS-- you found it right?
GREEN--somebody once asked me ...what's the challenge...i think you know its not as easy as it sounds....BUT...I would have never seen some of the things I have without geocaching...such as did you know there is a 911 memorial in minnesota that has steel beams from the WTC.

EVERYBODY else-thanks for your kindness...I just can't wait to till my little girls grow up to be great noodlers and proud to be Coolers and proud to be a part of minnesota traditions.

I almost forgot....
KT where'd ja get the rake?

My daughter and grandson came with me and the daughter took the grandson sliding. His sled wasn't working very well, and he saw Santa Dave walking by the hill and told his mom maybe he could ask Santa for a new one! He's three. He's the little boy in my avatar.

OT - that happens to him all the time! Even in the middle of the summer. We were walking with DDY at the State Fair once and some kid wanted to talk to Santa. Too cute!

CM, sorry I missed you.

KC0GRN (AKA: KORN), sorry I missed ya. I believe I still haven't met you.

Well, I've managed to get a grip on some of life's necessities. Kitchen is stocked again, and much laundry taken care of. Daughter #2 even got to finish her homework.

I am thankful for getting to see those of you that we did today, but there are still a bunch that either I haven't met yet or don't remember. I too am terrible with remembering people!

OTS - I didn't know you were there! I know you wanted to pick up some buttons, but you are one I either haven't met or don't know well enough to recognize! I still have some left - I'll save you a couple! Were the 2 little boys with blue jackets yours? I think I passed your wife on the stairs a couple times if so.

Yes the little ones were mine.

I need the buttons for them since they were out digging with me :)

KC0GRN (AKA: KORN), sorry I missed ya. I believe I still haven't met you.

actually just KC0GRN, the odd misgivings for it to be associated to the group "Korn" is purely coincidental.

Talked to Santa Dave a bit about ham radios and getting my ham radio car license plates. Figure I'll do that this year, so next year when you see a car out at the parks with "KC0GRN" license plates, you'll know where I am.

Sorry I missed meeting everyone though, hopefully get another chance before the PDG next year. But I tend to just meet one or two people at a time anyways, not because I'm shy, mostly cause it's just how things work out. But I'll be spending plenty of time out in the parks this year, and still gotta get the "I failed at Phalen" tshirt deal setup. In fact, that reminds me, gotta get back to work on that image for those.

Hey MOM! Could you please set aside a couple of those CC buttons for me and Alibabas too? I missed hitting you guys up at the PDG and obviously dropped the Timex ball today as well.
Ali was bummed she couldn't see the kids. We had a blast sliding down that hill by the beach house with a plastic pool that someone left behind. Seeing all the kids in that tub would have been priceless.

DAMN!!! I missed claiming my favorite JOE!!!!

I get calls at 3:17am all the time and all they say is "Do you see what time it is?" And hang up. IM's too.

I do the same for my bro at 12:34am & pm so I guess it's deserved. That's his ultimate Joe.

Were you last to leave AW?
It wouldn't be a RHB without it. I was looking for you. I had faith.

I missed my 'AW walking into the distance' shot this year. Damn!!

There was an awesome shot from the south end of the lake where someone walked straight out from the two-tree area out into the lake where the footprints disappeared into the distance. Too bad it was way to dark to capture it.

When I left, Me2 was just about to get into her car and KT and Dan were walking back from the firepit and that was it. So I was just about the last one to go.

Hey Ian,

Was out with CM looking for the monster fish cache, surely it can't be on the hillside can it?

BTW, I'm not going to stumble down this incline without a good hiking stick ;)

Only one is gone, "SOUNDS like a conspiracy" which was near the amphitheater. The only other one I MAY remove is in the Valley of Death. The rest are permanent.

I earned those footprints...that was a long walk.....

Let me explain...I decieded to figure out exactly where half way point was on larpentur on both sides of the park....so GPS in hand walked all the way across the lake.... (thought I'd never find a parking spot again).

I was lucky to have my GPS on when I drove by on West Larpentur.

You know whats really weird....the spot the medallion was found was less then 20 feet from where I marked it as exactly half way.....
I guess the idea who can measure the best was me. But I just didn't look hard enough.....oh an did you know ...

From the pumphouse to the flower sign is exactly 300 feet....hmm half of that is 150 feet --isn't 3 feet a large pace?

I missed my 'AW walking into the distance' shot this year. Damn!!

I thought of that as I watched AW get into his car.

KT, her husband and I pulled out of the parking lot at the same time. it was 3:59 pm -so I dont know when you got there CM but it was late!

I've been waiting and I know I'll still forget half the sh!t I wanted to say.

Among all the other B.S. associated with 12 day hunts, it makes it hard to pull together details for the Bash. What's available, what can we get? Where is the BEST spot?

I think we did the right thing.I think the rec. center would have been a bad choice. Too far away.

Not as many geocachers showed up this year, and I'm not sure why. But I did finally get to meet Moe the Sleaze, who is the leading 'cache finder in the state.

K T did a wonderful job with the prizes. As always, mass quantities of food, and great variety. Hot cider hit the spot ! Thanks

In the off season, visit some of these parks that you've never seen. I talked to Eags about that. It's something that was mentioned years (?) ago, but probably not many did it. Take notes, take pictures. You just might remember some little detail that will help you with a clue.

There are several community hunts coming up. Don't participate because of the money or prize. Refine your skills, get out in the parks, be active. Get interested in Allison's hunt. Watch for Marley's hunt. If you're still here now, don't leave. Stick around for good times.

Now where's a copy of that damn speech, me2 ? I'm deaf, doncha know?

I don't remember who said we don't bite. I'd just add one word: hard

Gotta be back to work in 6 hours, I'm outtie. Bye
