I went and did a google search on my old unit after I saw those links and found a page with an e-mail adress for my old Plt Sgt! I sent an e-mail and he responded already! Really cool! Now I gotta think what to say to him. Glad you got me to jog my memory a bit and do the look up! Had to thank you!

My uncle has my Grandfathers rifle he got of a Japanese in WWII.

I so bad wish I had it. I would really appreciate it more than him.

My Grandfather used a tommy gun during the war. When the war was over they of course wouldn't let him keep it, and he said "No one is getting my gun".

So he went out one night and buried it on the island they were on.

So, somewhere out in the pacific, is tommy gun buried.

I found some huge shells I guess they are in our basement. A couple of feet high with leaf designs on them. Have no idea what they're from. Really heavy.

I have a feeling they were here when my parents bought the house in 1928. It's not something they would have had. The house was built in 1916. They are cast out of some metal, don't know what.

I have seen some weird crap ..when I used to do sales and inhome inspections for a home security company a long time ago.....

Once I've seen a 5 gallon pail of Mercury. Why i don't know...but I'm willing to bet it made them nervous to have it in the basement of their house (I didn't ask and kept my mouth shut).

OK. I've got one here. That was really scary! No one has been in that old room for years and there were cobwebs all over the place! Now they're just on me. ;) So I'm looking at an EMPTY shell 131/2 inches high and three inches in diameter. And stuffed into the center is a pamphlet or something called The Trojan Journal and it says it was published by and for the A.E.F. Troops on board the USS Troy. Dated June 26, 1919. Looking closer I see where it's a newsletter of sorts, one page, from the 23rd through the 26th.

This is kind of cool. The headings on these newsletters are as follows: June 23-Homeward Bound; June 24-Atlantic Ocean; June 25-Mid-Ocean and June 26-Near Home and I found another dated June 27-Mighty Deep.

I gotsta clean out muh closet.. hahaha and do some MAJOR laundry.

Now I wish I had pulled out the other one too while I was at it. I was kind of frightened and just grabbed the one and ran! We used to have a coal furnace, and that is the room where the coal was stored after it came down the coal shoot. I remember once when I was a little girl I went in and slid down the pile of coal and got my pretty dress dirty. Funny how you remember things like that.

lol that's funny. That's like me sliding down a muddy hill one Easter :) Man was my mom PISSED! When I was little I HATED wearing dresses and my mom always used to make me where those really frilly ones.. yech!

I googled USS Troy, and it seems that it was previously named the USS Minnesota. Interesting.

No money. Here's what I've got. A Lifeboat Allocation card, and two slips from the Army Sanitary School sent from France on Feb. 3, 1919, giving permission to one John L. Narey of the Medical Department to send one German gas mask and one German helmet to the US. Signed H.L. Taylor. Major, Medical Corps. You think my soldier was wounded?

My son has the helmet and the gas mask. We found them a long time ago. I still don't know who these things belonged to though. The people who owned this house before my family was named O'Donnell.
