Kitch they called you because you were what we call a Dish winback :)

I'll have to tell you about that little deal sometime... They had us running around the entire system turning in addresses of houses that had dihes on them. The first person to turn in a certain address got 3 bucks.

Ok Geeks,

What's the difference between a wireless access point, and a wireless router?

http://www.linksys.com/products/product.asp?grid=33&scid=35&prid=601

The way I understand it, the access point can be added anywhere on your network, to give you wireless?

So I if I have a wired router, I could simply add this on to the already existing router, to give me wirless?

I'm asking because I'm thinking of getting my dad a wireless hookup for his birthday, but he's already got a wired router. So, should I get the wireless router, or the wireless access point, which is a little cheaper?

you got it, thx. the wireless router is 2 devices in one. the access point, and the router.

as for your dad, its a matter of whether you want two things taking up space where one will do. for my money, the extra money for the router would be worth it to not have to have 2 things sitting on the desk. plus you can sell the existing thing on ebay and recoup the cost :)

Yeah, I guess routers aren't that much more than an access point anyway.

Hey Search. I got my new cable box today but the man only brought one coupon for Pay Per View. My letter, as I read it to Kevin, states that I would get six if I called before Feb. 29.

Also, it was installed around noon today. Twice I've lost my picture and had to change channels and go back to the station I was watching. It goes to snow, then a blue screen. Can my box talk to you and tell you what's going on there?

I just lost my picture again.

Did you look to see if you can tell what might be wrong with my new cable box?

OT, from what I can see from here the box has no issues. Does the cox say Comcast on it?

OT

You mean box? Where would it say that? On the front?

OTiS

Might need to call customer service and have try a few things.

I'll do that tomorrow. I don't see Comcast on the front of the box. It says Motorola and Interactive Digital Communications. Should I tell them that I didn't get my free Pay Per View coupons too? It's not hard to get the picture back, but I tape some things and I would hate to have it go out in the middle of a taping when I wasn't around.

Coupons I would bring up. AS far as the picture going out... That needs to be fixed. You should have to tolerate that crap regardless. if it's a Motorola box then it's an older box. It's probably an issue with the box.

Soryy :(

Thanks for your help. I appreciate it. I'll just tell them I don't want one of their piece of crap old boxes! Will that work? ;)

Search. I think I sounded negative about my new digital cable box. I'm not. I like the display on the screen that shows what show is on and I really like all of the music stations! I've been trying them out today. My problem with losing the picture only seems to happen when it's on KARE11. Didn't go out all day when I was on A&E, but when I switched to 11 it happened again.

I called yesterday and talked to a machine! I hate that! But, it did send some signal to my cable box and I haven't been having any problems since. Now if I could just get past the menu options and talk to a real person regarding my free Pay Per View coupons.

ot, at&t has this voice prompt system where you don't use the dial pad, you talk to it to tell it what you want. i just keep hitting 0 until it tells me its going to connect me to a person :)

Welcome to refinance BS

Did they ever send out a poll beforehand asking who might be interested in switching shifts before forcing people? My wife's work just did that for 4-10's. She can't because of the kid but I'd love that option since I'm there that long anyway and not getting paid for it because I'm salary. 3-12's would be kick ass too!

Either way, I'd hate to work days. Yuk! Sorry dude

Basically..... the department i'm in has 14 people staffed for monitoring the entire network 24/7. This is down from 16 as there were two (non performers) let go on the last black Thursday. On top of that there are another 55 people in other departments associated with specific areas of the plant i.e. Telephony and HSI. Basically they are trying to make everyone a super tech here.As far as my position goes as an analyst you can't just have "Joe" hop in and figure it all out. But the other departments are combining. Basically they told everyone that they were going to have a major shift bid. In my group of 16 we used to have 3 overnight positions. They are making it one. They guy who has senority over me is a major prick with no life and basically took the night shfit to "stick it to me". TO answer you CM.... no... no one ever asked anyone what would work for them. AS I understand it there are quite a few people who have to quit do to schedule conflics. If your spouse in the major bread winner, what choice do they have?
