Look what happened to me.

Some twerp rammed us on 694 by Xerxes Ave.

Sun, 03/28/2004 - 12:24 PM Permalink
Frosti

And, the twerp took off! So we don't even know who he is. But, he left a clue. If any of you photoshop pros are able to enhance or clarify this shot so we can get his license plate, I'll buy you a beer.

Here's a detailed photo that shows what I can see of the imprint his plate left on our bumper. The numbers and letters are what it looks like to me, you may see other things.

Frosti - That sucks!

I tried inverting colors and I'm thinking the U might actually be a V. I also think you might have the numbers correct - but could the 9 be a 0?

Frosti

Yeah, it's anybody's guess. We tried to jot down the plate number as he drove off, but it was raining and we got it wrong. We had CGV 789, the highway patrol ran that plate and it didn't match.

Bummer deal.

I did what I could with the photo, but any extra filters didn't apply extra detail. Perhaps a shot in different lighting would work better..

That was about the best shot I could get. However, I stuck some other ones in the Cooler Crew photo thread, in case anybody wants to play.

I missed that sweet Joe.
However! No one seems to be responding to my plea for green!
Are you all frightened to tell me something horrible?

Hey KT!

Haven't seen nor heard from the green one. She's probably hibernating or something similar. She tends to disappear between big hunts.

It was a silver Honda. I think it was a Civic. Couldn't be sure though. To be honest, I thought it was a Mazda until I saw the hood emblem.

THX- please pass on to Scribe that I only have the 1901 presidential assassination newspapers NOT 1881. wrong president. sorry :(

I also have a couple around here somewhere on the Lincoln assassination AND Kennedy as well as deaths of Hubert Humphrey.

All but the one she wants. BUT, please tell her she can take her dates down to the 3rd floor JJHill library and look up the newspapers on microfische and print the stories to read if she has time. It cost a quarter a page-I know it's not the same as the original newspaper
:(

TELL HER GOODLUCK- if I find anything I will let you both know.

Frosti - Sorry to hear about your hit-and-run, but it's kinda fun being a CCPS investigative officer. ;-)
I have some enhancements that help show what the plate number is but are too big to post to show anything on a size restricted site without reducing quality. Could you please send me the original sized shot or possibly take another one? The first letter clearly looks to be a V or a W but you'll need to send a larger shot showing a little more of the bumper to be sure. Or at least one where you can see where all of the first 3 letters should be anyway. So far I have MN plate VCU-789
Did the cops take any pictures? If not, I'd love to get a hi-res shot to play around with.

Joe

You can see why we would need shots showing just the first 3 and last 3 characters.

WCU789 and VCU789 are not in the MN state License list...
Sorry I can't tell you how I know this...

also
there is three honda civic's that are gray or silver that have
plates that have a 789 in them...

Mon, 03/29/2004 - 7:57 AM Permalink

If we can figure out the first letter I can find it...

I think....

Mon, 03/29/2004 - 8:01 AM Permalink

Where in the alphabetical sequence are we as far as plates go in Minnesota? I'm sure we're not up to V's yet, but knowing that would cut down the choices of first letters. Kitch, it sounds as though you might know that information.

Mon, 03/29/2004 - 8:15 AM Permalink
KITCH

o.k. this is going to be really bad...I just tried...

A*U7** and B*U7** is 17 gray or silver honda civics in minnesota

and that is just a mess if you think I'm going to scan ever letter for a possible first letter....

I think all you need to do is get 2 more and you might have a remote chance...but will be tough to know for sure......

Mon, 03/29/2004 - 8:22 AM Permalink
OT

I wasn't suggesting that you scan every letter in the alphabet. I am just wondering if you have any idea of where we are in the sequence. I just called and they are now on M.

See, I Knewyou guys would totally love this!

Kitch,
We jotted down the plate number but were wrong. Here's what we wrote down originally: CJV 789
From the imprint, I'm fairly certain that the V is actually a U. Try using C (or maybe G) for the first letter.

CM,
I have the originals at home, I can e-mail them. Also, you know I'm quite snap-happy so let me know if you want anything in particular and I'll try to get new photos of it.

Youse guys rawk!

With that information, can the police go and look at that vehicle to see if it has damage around it's license plate? And will they? Just wondering. Or.....maybe someone on the case from the CC should surreptitiously go and look at it? Isn't this exciting!

My impression, from talking to the Trooper, is that they won't bother looking for the guy. Too much time and not enough resources. And he also said that even if they catch the guy, hit-and-runs are very hard to prosecute, so they generally don't bother.

but I would bet your insurance company would be very interested

I think if you have most of the license plate and a honda car with damage to tier front bumper-your insurance co. will be interested. What if that guy has his license revoked OR has had lots of accidents already? that would look bad on him.

MystiKal Muzik - Both Mark and I wern't feeling well tonight -We wanted pizza so we wouldnt have to cook -we called you at PAPA Mikes and VJ and Steve but couldnt reach anyone- I dont have your home number on the Cooler Crew list- :(

I will tell you all that that list has come in handy a couple of times now in the last few weeks-wish everyone was on there- especially when the forum was down the other day-I had to make a couple calls due to us going out Friday.

frosti, tc suggests getting some charcoal and taking a rubbing of your bumper. beyond that, for photoshop analysis, i'd suggest what has already been suggested. multiple straight-on shots of the bumper from going all the way across.

the last number looks like a 4.

I see the first letter as a V or W - In Times Roman font nonetheless. The first 25 degree slant makes me think this.

Tue, 03/30/2004 - 2:07 AM Permalink
OTiS

I'd Say V. If it's a w then it cuts into the area for the second letter.
