This is strictly for non-political, fun conversation. It's alot easier to discuss things with someone when you realize you have some common interests, fishing, music etc. Besides, lets face it, politics gets old sometimes too :) Enjoy, Please, NO flaming, name calling etc. Have some fun!
It is, Dan. I started out with DOS as well, but very soon the Mac came out and that's where I really cut my teeth. You would find it very familiar, since the Mac started the kind of desktop you see on Windows.
I get to use the new G5's this quarter very nice.
that would depend on what kind of workplace you want your children to grow up to work in. You want them to be accountants, sure...but what if you want them to be artists?
Then we will get them some paint, a canvas and brushes. My son already has a guitar and a trumpet for the musical form of art. My daughter learned the flute. No offense meant, but to me, that is what art involves. Everyone has their own opinion of what art is though.
My opinion of art is less than a two inch group at 200 yards.
the first experience a lot of people had with a Mac was the paint program.
guitars, canvas, paint and brushes, flutes and computers are all capable of being instruments of art
no offense, then you really don't want your kids to learn to be artists.
I've held 90K firearms that are works of art.
in the culture wars, some people are unarmed.
If your kids want to go to any graphic design schools it's all Mac's
in the culture wars, some people are unarmed.
That most certainly applies to you, crabs, when it comes to intellectual weaponry.
heh-heh
this from someone who doesn't think you should eat from the tree of knowledge
this from someone who doesn't think you should eat from the tree of knowledge
That would the tree of knowledge of good an evil. Since God kicked mankind out of the Garden of Eden it would be kind of hard to do now, wouldn't it? Besides you have seen what it did to Adam and Eve and their descendants would you really want to challenge God yourself? I am sure you would but not me, I'll pass.
you advocate making His good creations against the law.
okay...then you don't want to know what is good or evil.
you advocate making His good creations against the law.
again you lie.
okay...then you don't want to know what is good or evil.
Thanks to Eve I know that you are evil, crabs.
Anyone know if old pong games are worth anything ? I came across it last weekend at my parents house. As long as my old collection of records and baseball cards. I found my Brothers cards too but he had a bunch of star wars trading cards mixed in there. I wonder if they're worth anything ?
then you don't advocate making any seed-bearing herbs illegal?
could have fooled me.
I doubt it, but the old rule of thumb applies here, it is worth exactly what someone is willing to pay for it. Ebay is a great tool to determine what that might be. Do a search on Ebay to see what sort of bids such a thing gets. That will tell you about what it's worth.
and L2F?
sorry about letting this board slide into politics and other "non-fun" stuff.
I'll do my best to avoid it from now on.

No prob. thanks for trying, it's nice to have one thread to avoid politics :)
I think i'll throw some of that stuff on E-Bay and see what happens. Better than throwing it away. Maybe i'll plug it in and play one more round of pong for old time's sake:)
Funny how technology moves so fast, I remember a time when I WAS the remote control. "Change it to channel 5" O.K Dad, "Now, move the anntenae to the left.......Hold it., perfect"
you can get TV on cell phones now.
Freaky isn't it ? I wonder at what point will technology stop ?
Think about people in their 80's or 90's and all the technology they have seen come about. I wonder in 500 years how this period will be looked at ?
it's weird...I think at this point we still haven't really gotten our minds around the ways what we currently have can be used. We have to catch up to it. Orville and Wilber certainly never thought about the fact that what they made could eventually be used as a bomb.
"I wonder at what point will technology stop ? "
We have to get out of the First Inning before you talk about the end of the game.
"What I have seen is that Windows is what is most used in the workplaces, so that is what we have to teach our children."
And to think I thought they were used to teach things like history and mathematics. Silly me.
They're teaching Windows.
How convenient for the folks at Microsoft.

And to think I thought they were used to teach things like history and mathematics. Silly me.
Yeah, that's what I thought to.
They're teaching Windows.
I'd say 90%+ of computers in schools are Apple. That's changing though.
How convenient for the folks at Microsoft.
That's capitalism. If it weren't for their foothold in schools, Apple would probably be dead by now.
Do you want Apple to fail, JT?
"I'd say 90%+ of computers in schools are Apple. That's changing though."
I don't know if you want to link that figure; but your posts consistently display some kind of attitude you've developed about the company.
What's the problem?
Do you want Apple to fail, JT?
No, not really. I'm just stating a reality. Like I said, I've recently considered buying a Mac, but I'm not willing to spend much money on one. With me it was a choice between the two, and I chose the PC.
Your posts consistently display some kind of attitude you've developed about the company.
Yeah, maybe I do have an attitude, and I shouldn't. They haven't done anything to me.
What's the problem?
I don't know. I guess I don't like that a major reason for their existence is simply because of taxpayer monies.
BTW: I have used Mac, although limited, and I didn't like them. Maybe I just didn't have enough time to get used to them.
Maybe they're good teaching tools.
Maybe they're good teaching tools.
Any better than PC's?
PC's are cheaper....
There's your preoccupation with price again.
Do you want what is cheap, or what is good?
There's your preoccupation with price again.
Preoccupation?
I don't like wasting my hard earned money.
Then don't get something cheap.
Do you own a Mercedes Rick ? One of the best cars money can buy you know.
Then don't get something cheap.
I didn't.
I got a quality computer for a good price.
Actually, I bought two computers (one laptop and one desktop), for about the price of a Mac.
Can you make distinctions, Rob?
We're not talking about $450 Dells vs. $3,000 G5's.
Sure I can, everyone has a different idea of what's a good value. There's a point where quality/price diverge. A Mac might be a better machine, I don't know. A P.C fits my needs just fine and I've never had any problems with it, I buy Dells which are priceier but I think they make a good PC. I just can't justify the extra money because I really don't need anything else a Mac might be able to do, it's not worth it to me.
I wonder if I should tell Rick that I own a Honda?
:-)
Honda makes a good car. They also make the best damn small engine bar none.
uh...that's capitalism.
they took great care to cater to a specific market. That it's a public one doesn't make it any less of a capitalistic approach. I'm glad the public sector has enough sense to buy products that have a lower overall cost of ownership. I'm not real happy when our tax money is used to buy machines that cost more to operate overall.
Honda and Apple are quite similar in some ways. They both give a great deal of attention to design. Same deal with Volkswagons for that matter. On the lower end of cars, PC is to Chevette or Fiesta as Apple is to Civic or Rabbit. Better design.
The Japanese have sure come a long ways from making toys out of recycled tin cans haven't they?
lower overall cost of ownership
For businesses, that may be the case. I know it's not the case for me personally.
how do you know? Ever own a Mac?
I don't know why but some people think this is fun:

It does touch slightly on politics, sorry about that.
why would they make it illegal? I mean, you can fish with a line but not with your hands?
Seems to me it would be a lot more challenging.
wonder what the justification is? that it's not safe?
