I don't. It usually took me 2 or 3 guesses to get them right.

VoIP is the next big thing for the home market IMO.

Pong was the most amazing high tech game and best of all, you could play it on your black and white T.V. in your living room! Didn't get any better than that.

Why do I remember this card as being my first exposure to learning something about computers? I haven't learned that much since then either.

Get out those #2 pencils baby

I also still have my 'upgraded' Commodore 64 but miss my first black and white pong game console. I gotta find that thing on the web somewhere. It was a large white, one piece unit that had 3 dials per side and 2 switches in the middle. I remember thinking how uneeded the 'control ball' function was as nobody could ever hit that thing back no matter what.

< edit> I couldn't find my exact pong game but found tons of them old bad boys at this site.

LOL - Actually no. I must have come into the game late enough where the machines punched them for us as long as we colored them in. I did see one of those old manual-punch machines similar to a typewriter. And I'm sure there were plenty of hanging chads to go around for everybody back then.

::nudge nudge:: know what I mean?

Kids these days will never understand.

My kids, with their game boys, & Playstations... would look at Pong and say "What the hell is this crap?".

I loved Pong! We had the later version with 6 versions, including two that you could shoot with an electronic rifle!

When I went to high school we learned Fortran in math class. At one of my first jobs I actually wrote Fortran programs and then key-punched the cards that were fed into the computer to run the programs.

As I feared last August, the European Union just shoved its grasping hand deep into the pockets of a leading American firm -- Microsoft -- while also attempting to dictate the features of Windows and expropriate intellectual property rights of its creators.

OK tech type folks. Why in the world would I not be able to open multiple IE browser windows?

Thanks THX. I bet it has to do with Yahoo. I had to uninstall and then reinstall YIM yesterday. It seems the toolbar got installed during that process.

Well, he must have passed his files on to someone else because I still get upwards of 100 every day.

Anyone been lucky enough to get their hands on a gmail account?

If so, how'd you get it?

What is it?

Last I heard, gmail was only being tested in beta. They were supposed to launch a couple months ago, but ran into some snags. I think they were having issues with privacy laws in Europe, which are more strict than here in the US.

What is it?

Google e-mail.

They give you 1Gig of storage.

Currently it's by invite only. Sort of like Okrut, but even harder to get because Google only gives people something like five invites for each user to give out.

Got myself my Gmail acct.

Unfortunately, I didn't get any invites to give out.

My slave drive started making clicking noises and became unrecognized by my computer. It sounds like it's trying to 'spin' itself going but starts to click again. Any ideas?
I unplugged the power to that drive because it didn't sound too healthy. Thanks for any input or experience.

I had the same problem a while back and had to replace the hard drive. Mine would click for a while (I think that it is the arm in there going back and forth looking for the drive) then it would find it. After a while it just could not find it anymore.

If you can get it working at all, backup anything you wish to keep off of it.

Thanks Gramps. That scares the hell out of me since that's the drive I used for everything except the OS because of having probs with the C drive in the past. 1000's of photos, songs and many programs gone!! Damn! I hope I can restore some of it and move what I can stat.

I backed up my C-drive on my slave but not the other way around. It would fill up the C in no time since it's much bigger and fuller. I just made a decision last week to burn and dump my pix and tunes every 3 months instead of every 6. There was just too much on the drive after 6 months and I couldn't handle possibly loosing all of it. I was scheduled to burn the stuff at the end of this month. Then start on the 3 month schedule with backup ;-(

Will do.

FYI: I've heard you can sometimes get them through Orkut.com & Blogger.com, both also run by Google.

I've gone through a couple of those.

And Dell has three copies of it. None as good as the original iHelmet.

But they're all a lot cheaper.

Frosti, are you on Orkut?

Want an invite?

It will increase your changes of getting gmail.

I don't really know what Orkut is.

From what I've seen so far, I think you'd like it.

Orkut is an online community that connects people through a network of trusted friends.

We are committed to providing an online meeting place where people can socialize, make new acquaintances and find others who share their interests.

Yeah.

I've never used Tribe, but it seems very similiar. Orkut seems a lot bigger though, from what I've seen.

I don't know. Depends on what you call lots. I'd say there's about a 1,000 from MN.

I sent you an invite, btw. To your yahoo addy you signed up here under.

At least I think I did. I'm not sure if I did it right.

Maybe it just takes awhile.

FWIW, here's a description of g-mail I found from a poster on another site:

Some of you may be aware of the G-mail craze, but for the uninitiated, G-mail is a web-based e-mail service created by Google. You get one gig(abyte) of storage space (which means that you could go years without deleting a message), you can use the Google search feature to find long-lost letters, there’s a highly effective spam filter, no annoying pop-ups, and a shitload of other great features. Also, getting an account early means securing a choice username before Google opens the floodgates.

G-mail is still in beta testing, and you can only join if you are invited by a member. However, the only time members can invite people is when they are given several invitations to send out. This ability is a random thing, and the number of invitations that they will get is also random. So, the kickass features and limited availability, combined with the general hype, makes G-mail hard to get and quite sought after.

Everyone will eventually be able to get Gmail. They're talking August rollout.

The only reason to try and get it early, is to get the username you want.

I still haven't gotten any invites to give out.

Another guy I know, that got on it right before me, has gotten 8.

It really is random how they give them out.

I got an invite for you.

I'm too lazy to look up your e-mail addy again.

E-mail me at my gmail account and I'll invite ya.
