It's a nice pic ESD, I just picked up on the Swede Hollow thing. Kitch and a group of night cachers went out there and ran into "Lenny", I knew his name because I tried for the same cache in the daytime and got creeped out finding a sleeping bag and a note posted over it saying Dorm 12 Lenny.
Kitch-I had a similar pair of tennies for my wedding reception -I did them myself.
I also walked barefoot down the grassy aile -with a toe ring on ;)
Â
we just saw fireflies at the window up here in Aitkin. Saw a woodpecker and a hummingbird at the feeders...earlier sarah and I took a 5-mile walk twords town -saw 2 rabbits hopping away and the tail and guts of leftover racoon roadkill -
I was sitting on the couch trying to write a clue! this is hard stuff-please have no high expectations you guys! But I hope it will still be harder than the other city hunts-even if it gets boring. Anyhow...as I sat there...I heard a THUD...looked at the sliding doors and a poor bird smacked into the window...he died within literally moments!! :(
anybody know if property deeds have gps coordinates on them? I need to see exactly where my 40 acres is in hinkley and don't know how to go about it. I don't want to hire a surveyor. Any ideas? Is it in the property description maybe??
we are having the same troubles here in Aitkin - the land was surveyed years back to build this house. Our neighbor lost about 6-10 feet. The house was built within guidelines of whatever the footage from the property line was back then-I think its 20 feet.
A family down the road had their son survey their property lately which made our neighbor loose about 20 feet on that side! so she got sqeezed in and lost like 25-30 feet of property from both sides-she didnt like it (and who would) so she had that same guy (neighbors son) come out and survey her property-He then says that she has more on our side...literally within 2 feet from this house-so technically our house was built too close to the property line in 1997 by his standards. He also cut a good 15 feet of shoreline from us. Sooooo, we are having an Aitkin County Surveyor come out and redo the whole thing! There are old metal land markers out there but no one is going by them!
They didn't have GPS back when deeds where first made - I have a sky picture though of Hinckley! :) I think I got it on Google.com ---I have to get back there to do some family research. My relatives are buried in the same cemetery as the Fire Monument. Are you close to there?
Is there a Hinckley Historical Society BESIDES the Hinckley Museum?
Not sure where the fire monument is. Not sure if there is any other historical society either. I do know about the fire museum. My land may not be in Hinckley proper. Maybe more like Krochel township. I'm close to lake 11 if that helps. I would be happy to know where my property line is plus or minus 50 ft. I just have no idea what shape it is or how far it goes. I know where one "corner" is and know it's 40 acres. That is all. It's mostley swamp, but some high land and I'm thinking I'd like to clear some for a cabin or for camping or something.
Aitkin just happens to be the "County Seat" of Aitkin County-so we just drive into town to the Court House and right inside the door is a surveyors office -they have pictures of our property -plat maps. So try your "County Seat" city Court House. Now, also try your local library and ask if they have plat maps or even your historical society should have plat maps -they show very acurate accounts of land in footage and buildings on property-
so you dont have your abstract? bummer! that is the best record.
check your property for those "markers" - like on a tree at the assumed property line-an old broken fence in the woods or metal stakes in the ground at a corner somewhere. Talk with your closest neighbors about what they think is their 'lines' and have them show you why? maybe they have an abstract that gives borders.
not paying that. Thanks for the other ideas though. The closest neighbor is the people that bought my grandfathers house. That was the other 40 acres (of 80) so that won't help me much. I know where theirs goes, just not mine. The plat map at the county seat may help. Thats in Mora. I'll have to make a trip up sometime anyways to do a quit deed on my sister and I can check it then. Again, thanks for the ideas.
Holy Moly! I been gone soooo long. 'Puter was fritzing, and is still on the verge of death. Boy says it's only the mother board, and the hard drive, and lack of RAM, otherwise, it's purrrrfect heheh.
I hope all of you are happy, healthy, and finding time to enjoy this summer.
closest neighbor is the people that bought my grandfathers house
well, if your grandpa lived on 80 acres a looong time he may have owned more land and sold it off-you just may not know about that. OR even if he owned your 40 and your neighbors 40-all of the 80 should show on the orginal abstract that your neighbors may have in their possession if you dont have it!
Never hurts to take a look at the abstract OR EVEN GET A COPY from that neighbor!!!! I bet their abstract shows the original boundaries -including your land! If they have your grandpas original abstract! since you dont have it, someone has to have it.
Call your neighbor or swing by there! DO IT DO IT! you must see their abstract!
yur grandpas signature or any additional writing may be on it -which would be cool.
Abstracts are definately one story of our pasts. your kids will be glad you at least tried to get a copy of your neighbors abstract. That is probly why you dont have one because the land was split up and the house owner got it.
as I sat here I thought it said Me2 for Meyerand I couldnt figure out why candy would say that. Then as I was posting about I realized it says

With being mayor of St Paul and Coolerville you wouldn't have time to go to Hinckley anyways.
The link didn't work for me but a google search for hinckley fire did. Lots of stuff I'll check out on there. Thank you!
