Ahh so there is another Zantigos. I remember them a lot better from when I was a kid. My parents would take us there and get some cheese chilitos. Of course then taco smell came in and bought em out or something, and the one I remember going to is now a taco bell over near Sun Ray.
I was surprised to see em back in action (though much less pronounced) a couple years ago, and to my recollection, the food tastes the same from the way I remember it. Too bad about the prices though.
the place sucks ...heck even the locals know that!!!!!
go down the road....stay on concord...down to South St. Paul ...on the river is a mexican joint...that I can't remember the name...but is the place that has had 15 different bars in the past 10 yrs.....is a great mexican spot.....
but you might have a hard time ordering food as they don't know english.
I just had Cipotle yesterday for lunch -downtown on 5th st. at St Peter- they are only open M-F 11-4 pm
so everyone works part-time!
Â
cheese chilitos--- those were the best- when 'Taco H- E-Â double toothpicks' took over they didnt originally carry that item over. I think Zantigos had it copywritten or something. So within about a year Taco Bell began carrying something similar- those "Cheese Burritos" (which when I go there I still ask for chilito)are NOT the same recipe. And ask for 'easy sauce' so they arnt as soggy.
It figures that ares would like Chipotle. They're owned by McDonalds. ;)
Actually, from what I heard in financial circles, Mcdonalds sold them off when their profits took a dive with the slow economy. I'm not sure who owns em these days.
I once worked at Taco Johns when I was a teenager - they used real beans and meat- we would take real beans and put them in a pot to soften and then stir them in the pot with a gigantic metal stick! -When I worked for Taco Bell they take the "brown bean dust" and mix with water!
and we actual cut all the tomatoes and onions by hand at Taco Johns- and tacos actually came with tomatos unlike Taco Bell cutting corners!
The taco supreme wrapped in a bean covered soft taco shell was always the best!and it came with black olives -unlike today-no black olives and no sour cream-
cutting corners I tell yeah! :( raise the price and cut the amount of food!
lol it's the great mexican food and pop debate.. yay!!! El Bravos is definately my #1 choice for mexican food. There's also a little family owned restaurant up here in WBL that makes THE BEST fajitas in the world that I've tasted so far. But yeah... lol now beer.. the best beer/beers... Miller Lite and MGD :D
That ain't beer! That's..... I don't know what it is, but it ain't beer!
:-)
I wish Rush were around. Frosti's also a beer enthusiast.
Personally I don't like beer unless it's really girly foo foo. Like apricot, or raspberry. There's one local beer that you can't get at many places called "St Croix Maple Ale" that's awesome. It's got a hint of maple syrup in it.
Anyone ever watch that show "Mythbusters"? They've debunked a lot of old urban legends, including coke. In fact, not only doesn't it do too well on rust, it doesn't clean crome all that great, and it doesn't disolve stuff.
Then again, that's the newer coke, perhaps the old stuff from the 40s had more kick?

The Green Mill on Grand has some good options for that kind of taste. They brew it right there. Right now the seasonal is Raspberry Wheat, it's a great summer beer.
I'm a lodge member too! And I've toured the brewery twice! I haven't been there since they completed their second brew kettle though. Until a few years ago, they brewed everything in one vat (not at the same time, obviously). Now they have two and can theoretically double production.
lol hell yeah.. now THAT is one way to keep beer in the house ;) LOL I don't want to let Mark see that.. or he'll take a notion to build one when we buy our house!!
hmmm....
I just gotta do a cut and paste JOE.....
Cooler Crew Chicks ( 10 discussions ) messages: 420

probably the "non-compete" expired?
You can buy the plain tortillas to take home.
Zantigo is great cheap mexican. Boca Chica rocks, your illness was prolly just a one time event.
I remember the Zantigo in Sun Ray! I've also been to the one in Whitebear.
Fridley Zantigo
Where in Fridley?
For cheap Mexican: Chipotle
University and (?) 58th, 63rd (?)
across from CUB/Gander Mtn
Better throw Baja Tortilla Grill in too. I used to go there from time to time. It's comparable to Chipotle (which I happen to like as well).
Boca Chica rocks
YOU ARE NUTS!!!!

cheese chilitos
The main reason I go to Zantigo. The taco burrito is real good too. Oh yeah, chips and cheese. And they have COKE, not
pepsiÂ

Â
oooooh blasphemy Ian!
Pepsi
is way better than COKE!
great now another debate!
coke in the can is the worst ...and bad for screws!
Â
anything bad for a thing called 'screw' MUST be bad!
Â
The best is any cold drink from a glass bottle.
plastic bottles...
beer bottles...
Scratch that, I like keg beer better anyway. I know, I know, that's another debate. But bottled beer just doesn't go down as fast I tells ya.
I like my beer in plastic bottles as well.....
my reason is that I can put the cap back on it....
then when I drop it ...i don't have to worry.....or if my daughters knock them over I don't spill a drop...
we would take real beans and put them in a pot to soften and then stir them in the pot with a gigantic metal stick!
A friend of mine worked at the Taco John's up in Forest Lake. They used a paint stripper attachment on a cordless drill to mix their refried beans!

I know CM likes Icehouse..... I've seen plenty of those coming out of his disc golf bag

did somebody say beer??
oh now that is an easy one for me.....
MGD--for easy light drinking on a hot summer day and I want to drink a bunch ...like a 12 pak or so...
Guinness- for my daily diet...as it only has 120 CARBS. about 2 a day is good for the heart.
I really like half "blue moon" half Guinness....called an eclipse.
Summit Grand is also in my fridge as I like to support the minnesota brands from time to time.
hmmm...what else...
oh Mexican beer since we are on the mexican food topic.
DOSXX
MGD

Yum!
coke in the can is the worst ...and bad for screws!
think about it. its in a can. it can't be *that* bad for screws. besides, i think aw debunked that once upon a time as an urban legend.
It is an urban legend.
MGD
is just my drink ...when I want to drink a case or so...and don't want to go broke.......geez....
Anyone ever watch that show "Mythbusters"? They've debunked a lot of old urban legends, including coke. In fact, not only doesn't it do too well on rust, it doesn't clean crome all that great, and it doesn't disolve stuff.

Yeah, but it's still true that Life cereal's Mikey did die from eating pop rocks while drinking a Coke. They couldn't prove that one was a myth. ;-)
I like any red beer myself. But I'm with you Kitch, I normally drink IceHouse because I can't afford to drink Leinie Red by the case.
There's also a little family owned restaurant up here in WBL that makes THE BEST fajitas in the world that I've tasted so far.
Where???
Beer enthusiast, I like that. And you're right. MGD is fizzy yellow stuff, not beer.

I'm a member of the leiny lodge and even have a paddle in my basement.....(somewhere after this move)....but I have one!!!
I'm a lodge member too! And I've toured the brewery twice! I haven't been there since they completed their second brew kettle though. Until a few years ago, they brewed everything in one vat (not at the same time, obviously). Now they have two and can theoretically double production.
lol well darn it... MGD's good and cheap and gets me drunk when I wanna be lol so that's all that matters!
I agree...MM nothing wrong with a cheap beer.....
my god ...its not like I can really afford to drink
"newcastle" all night long.
hell It would cost me like .....um ......
200 bucks a month.
hmmmmm....http://www.google.com/froogle?q=Kegerators+&btnG=Search+Froogle

Â
I'm just giving ya shit Kitch.
I don't care what ya drink.
