Hey, these guys did way better than many people expected them to. Hats off to the Twins for back to back central titles and thanks for an outstanding year. Go Marlins!! :)
Shannon Stewart, "Latino Heat" Eddie Guardado, and Latroy Hawkins, are all the 3 big people that everyones worried about leaving next year... most of the anchor people were saying that people shouldnt look to see Hawk next year...
One of the channels was saying that he basically said that if Latino Heat is gone next year, then Hawk prolly wont re-sign either.... and that the biggest one that errbody wants back is Stewart (who said he "feels like a Minnesotan, and feels at home with the Twins")
I heard another channel talkin about Doug Mientkiewicz(sp?) and saying that he's another guy who's contract is up as of the end of this season.... Personally.. I dig this ninja, he's like an oldschool player n stuff.... you ever see how dirty his clothes look? Especially his helmet??
He's in 93X's morning show alot, and he was talkin about how one time, someone cleaned his helmet, and he got all pissed off about it... damn funny stuff... I used to pick the dirtiest helmets back when Baseball was my chosen sport...
hell yeah... you heard it right, Violent J was a baseball player...
D&C was the shit back then... we had some of the best teams, the years that I played there.... our biggest feud was the rec center that was supposed to be the "the best" in Arlington...
I aint even gotta tell ya about middle school.... battle creek man, Hazel park was our rivalry there...
By that, I mean... since I didnt play football, and hockey.. I didnt play baseball either..
I tried out freshman, sophmore, and junior years.... and was one of only 2 people to never miss a practice. I grew up with most of the other ninjas that played, too... but didnt pal around with any of em, most of whom also played the other 2 sports mentioned... in which the coach had his hands on the teams too....
So instead of going through with being denied again senior year... immediately after being rejected junior year, I went with theatre instead...
I know.. it sounds gay, but trust me, it rocked... I owned the drama stuff, ninja.
MINNEAPOLIS -- All-Star catcher A.J. Pierzynski was traded Friday by the tightly-budgeted Minnesota Twins to the San Francisco Giants for right-handed pitcher Joe Nathan and two minor leaguers.
PHILADELPHIA -- The Philadelphia Phillies acquired left-hander Eric Milton from the Minnesota Twins on Wednesday for reliever Carlos Silva and utility infielder Nick Punto.
Outfielder Shannon Stewart agreed to a three-year, $18 million deal three minutes before the midnight deadline, ESPN.com's Jayson Stark reports.
The Twins offered closer Eddie Guardado salary arbitration after failing to work out a contract with him.
Stewart will get $5.5 million in 2004, $6 million in 2005 and $6.5 million in 2006. He made $6.2 million this season, providing the Twins' lineup a much-needed spark after an All-Star break trade brought him from Toronto.
MINNEAPOLIS -- It's two weeks from the season opener and it appears that most of the Minnesota Twins fans in the Twin Cities won't be able to stay home this season and watch their team play more than 100 games on television.
If you signed up for something like the Major League Season Ticket that gives you 140 games a week, you'd get the Twins for all the games wouldn't you?
But on the plus side, is there anything better than opening day? I'm getting down there at 4:30 to the plaza and watch batting practice, with the new turf, watch my buddy Joe, it's going to be a great season.
Well, the arrangement they have now is ridiculuous. The Twins gotta do a deal with the cable companies. You can't have 100 games blacked out in the metro. People will lose interest. This was a dumb move.
I noticed during the game last night they were hauling owners of Ma and Pa cable companies into the booth to tout Victory Sports One. Well, so what!
Ã¢Â€ÂœIt suddenly dawned on us that we haven’t gotten completely shit-faced and burned our couch in the street in almost ten months.â€ÂÂÂ

Sorry to say this Greg....but the Dinkytown area is due for a riot.......
It's a double shot of Twins playoff fever. I'd settle for Twins in 5, too. Yeah I'm a homer, but I feel better about this teams chances than the previous two years we were in the playoffs.
And the pitching staff that won 101 games, that huge lineup might have had a little to do with it.
My prediction for tonight's game: Twins 4, Yanks 1
Johan goes 8 with 9 K's and Stewart goes 3-4 with a HR
From what I recall, Santana wasn't at the top of his game that five innings he pitched against the Yankees just before the end of the season. Pitching one trip through that Yankees lineup -- especially when they're primed for the playoffs -- has be exhausting. The fielding saved him last night.
Mussina was tough last night, too.
Tight pitching, good fielding, manufacturing runs. A classic last night. Textbook baseball.

so what happened to stop you in high school?
Boy, a Marlins - Yankees series. I can't wait. At least I can save some cash on my sleeping pills anyway.
Salary cap, salary cap, salary cap!!!!
Either that or at least publicly acknowledge that football is the real American sport. Apple pie still rocks though.
I was so hoping for a Cubs/Red Sox series!
:-(
no not salary cap but total revenue sharing by MLB teams.

Politics, mostly....

No doubt!
What are they thinking? I just don't understand how they think this is a good thing?
I would think they sounded out the cable companies out about this before they made the decision.
WAY TO GO TWINS!!!!!

does anyone think the Twins will beat the Yankees?
With Santana pitching 2 of the 5 games (if it even gets that far) yes, absolutely.
Twins in 4.
Yankees 3 Santana 2
that pitching staff won 101 games.
Twins in 4.
I love the Twins but in 4? Bartender, I'll have what he's having ;)

I just hope we win at least one game so I can go Saturday.

I have to agree the Twins chances are better this year.
And the pitching staff that won 101 games, that huge lineup might have had a little to do with it.
Well it is a team sport. And the Yankees will get to bat against Radke and who knows who else.
We might not even make it to Saturday, now you have to hope for a loss, let's just wrap it up in 3!
I wonder if I could trade them in for the next series?
I'd keep the un-used ticket.......money's not everything....
would look cool in a frame with some world series tickets when they win....
Â
oh wait...doesn't matter now.....
DAMN!
Yankees 1Â Santana 1
I'd like, for just one day, see the Twins wipe that perpetual I'm-a-Yankee-doodle-dandy smirk off Derek Jeter's face.
[Edited 2 times. Most recently by on Oct 9, 2004 at 11:20am.]
As would I, next to Kobe Bryant, he is my least favortie professional athlete.
I loved the "Jeter Sucks!" chants yesterday at the dome
I'm off to game 4, here's to hoping Santana shuts them down and forces a game 5...
Start singing a mocking rendition of Yankee Doodle Dandy whenever the prettyboy steps up to bat.
;-(
its the god damn pinstrips...they are afraid of the pinstrips!!!
