"Crabby, Quit talking to Torp when you say you're not talking to him but you really are" - JT

I just post his own words to keep reminding him that he doesn't want me to talk to him...every time he tried to talk to or about me. I've had to do it hundreds of times.

I haven't said anything one way or the other about my talking or not talking to him.

All I'm doing is quoting him back to him. He apparently doesn't remember that he doesn't want me to talk to him very well, so I have to keep reminding him. I've actually honored his wish (even though I don't have to. He doesn't get to decide who I talk to. I'll talk to whoever I fucking well please. That's why I don't tell people to not talk to me or to shut the fuck up, unlike some others I know. If I did and then kept trying to talk to them, that would sort of make me a hypocrite, now wouldn't it?). I think he's on drugs or something. Short term memory loss don't you know.

I have to agree.  With the exception of one ad, his ads have been horrible.

Any incumbent should easily be able to beat Wetterling without the nasty ads.

Independence carries the Vento name in the 4th

Curt Brown,
Star Tribune

October 13, 2004

FOURTH1013.VENTO

OAS_AD('Button20');

Peter Vento admits he parlayed a well-known name in Fourth District politics -- his late father Bruce's -- to defeat Maplewood Mayor Bob Cardinal easily in the Independence Party primary last month.

"I didn't campaign, press the flesh or do the typical things politicans do," said Vento, 42. "Frankly, it was name recognition, and other politicians have used their fathers' names. Look at our president right now."

Peter Vento says his entry in the congressional race against two-term DFLer Betty McCollum and Republican Patrice Bataglia would prompt pride from his father, who served in the U.S. House from 1978 until his death in 2000.

Court documents make it clear that Peter Vento's relations with the family have been contentious. In March, Bruce Vento's parents, both in their 80s, asked for a harassment restraining order against their grandson, Peter, who has waged a bitter battle over his father's estate.

According to court affidavits, Frank and Ann Vento went to visit Bruce's grave at Forest Lawn Cemetery last Valentine's Day. They found a letter on the grave from Peter, laced with obscenities, calling the Vento family a "lying group of thieves," among other things.

The Ventos accused Peter of desecrating Bruce's grave, slandering their dead son and causing them to fear for their safety. A similar harassment order has been filed against Peter by Susan Vento, Bruce's widow. In 2001, she contends in court documents, Peter screamed at her at a public event honoring Bruce's contribution to a new trail along the Mississippi River.

In an interview at an antique shop Peter runs along W. 7th Street in St. Paul, he insisted his father "would be proud that I'm sticking up for myself."

"I'm sane. I do see a therapist, and they told me that I'm not crazy. Some of my behavior in the past maybe has been, but people didn't understand where I was coming from."

He acknowledges he's been a lifelong DFLer and plans to vote for Sen. John Kerry for president, but has no qualms running as an independent.

"The DFL did right by him, but now it's time for different ideas," he said. "Things evolve and change. I decided I wanted to run for office and that's my prerogative. I think there's a lot of things wrong with this country that need fixing."

Lifting the statute of limitations on sexual-abuse cases and opening trade with Cuba are among issues he'd address if he defeats McCollum and Bataglia.

Asked if his candidacy might funnel some votes away from McCollum, who was endorsed by his father before he died, Vento shrugged.

"I guess the Vento name might hurt Betty, but that's not my problem," he said. "If Betty can't get enough votes to win, that's her deal, not my deal. I'm running for me."

In today's Wall Street Journal:

"Bruce Springsteen, the Asbury Park, NJ, rock music provider, once commented that there was a double standard for entertainers who ventured into politics "'If you're a business guy,"' he said. no one tells you to "'shut up and do business (and) stay out of public policy. If you're a big corporation, you influence government your way, right?'

"Exactly, so, Boss."

That was certainly bullshit... strange. Gdubbya LIKES sending American workers(jobs) OUT of the U. S.

Seems it's OK with you too...

Yea G'Dubbya loves sending jobs out of the U.S...yea that's it. Pffttt.

What you're missing is that that one of the reasons these companies are leaving is because of taxes and he's trying to give them reason to stay. If they leave we not only lose any corporate tax we get from them but the jobs and taxes paid by workers not to mention the loss of income on the local economies. Screw it, tax the hell out of them and then when they head to Mexico you can complain some more that evil Bushco loves sending jobs out of the U.S

Well if Kerry is up an average of 3.0 in Michigan that's it folks. This is a state Kerry should have wrapped up months ago. He's still there. If it's tight there he's in trouble.

bull

shit

they do it because they don't have to pay the employees as much in india as they do here in the us. if the companies were leaving, they'd be packing up corporate offices and heading overseas as well. they aren't, and as a result are still suibject to the american tax system. the only thing that's going overseas is the labor.

Tue, 10/26/2004 - 6:35 AM Permalink

Ares,

First of all I said it was one of the reasons, labor is one of them, that wasn't the topic, we can discuss it if you'd like unless you just want to scream bullshit again. And secondly if a company relocates it's corporate offices etc. they aren't. ever hear of the Cayman Islands? So taxes has nothing to do with why a company would leave? O.K

I knew a newspaper editor who was a Marine in Vietnam. That guy had major issues. I thought he'd look across his newsroom one day and see Charlie behind every computer terminal.

It was said he used to talk about women in a really dark way. A couple of his reporters attributed it to Marine training.

aWell it's not in the "official" training. ;) The Marines are like any other organization where a large segment of the population is represented. Views differ greatly on every aspect of life. Mostly it's due to being young men far away from home. When you're young it's all you think about. Then add in not seeing a woman for months at a time and splash it with alchohol and it's like gas on a fire.

And Jethro.

It's a really bad idea to pick a fight with a Marine :)

I certainly don't think there was official Marine policy, but from what I remember (and this is second and third hand) that there was an implied attitude among some of them that women made men weak.

It's probably just bravado, warrior talk.
