When Gary told me he had found Jesus, I thought, Ya-hoo! We're rich! But it turned out to be something different.

Excellent post.

If only you could explain to us ignoramus folks who these "Ghandi" and "Khrishna" characters are.

Are they the co-stars in the skin-flicks Pulp Friction and Deep Throat ?

That's not igonoring them. Ignoring someone has some honor. What the hell do youknow about honor? Nothing.

fold cited: "Judge Not, Lest Ye Be Judged",

but of course he takes the phrase out of context. It doesn't mean not to judge at all becuase society would not be able to operate.

I thought it was common knowledge that Ghandi believed sleeping with young girls somehow cleansed his soul?

I'd do it now, but I don't really want to be searching for such things from here at work.

Surely such a logical genius such as yourself can understand that?

JT, don't waste your time with Damon or DUMon as he is better known throughout the internet. He's famous for making wild accusations he can never back up.

Like what, Torpid?

I'm not the one who made the accusation that Ghandi was a pedophile

You are indeed famous for quite possibly being the dumbest person on the internet.

It helps not to confuse people.

Mahatma Gandhiexperimented with CONTROL of temptations. So he slept BESIDE attractive women ( NOT girls ) to see if he could keep his dermal joystick in control, rather than pitching tents.

Quite different from paedophile priests going Greek with altar boys.

Or this "GHANDI" character ramming cucumbers down Linda Lovelace's oral cavity.

I argue against Torpid's methodolgy, that pattern of thinking is conducive to all his other arguments, so you can see why he is easily defeated, and often considered a logical moron.

Not women, girls.

Obviously, you are less than informed on the matter, and with vulgar impulses clouding your brains and judgement.

You are urged to read "The Story of My Experiments with Truth", an autobiography of the great Mahatma Gandhi.

The women involved were his 19 year old grandniece and the 18 year old newly married wife of a relative of his.

In any case, you can get the straightdope response to an ignorant rant like yours :

http://www.straightdope.com/columns/040813.html

Mohandas Gandhi's sleeping arrangements attracted public attention during the winter of 1946-47, when he was trying to quell violence between Muslims and Hindus in the Noakhali district in what is now Bangladesh. It came out that Gandhi was bunking nightly with his 19-year-old grandniece, Manu. In part this was an effort to stay warm in the winter chill, but Gandhi soon acknowledged there was more to it: he was testing his vow of brahmacharya,or total chastity in thought and deed.
If he could spend the night in a woman's embrace without feeling sexual stirrings, it would demonstrate that he had conquered his carnal impulses and become "God's eunuch."It turned out that Manu was not his first brahmacharya lab partner--he'd also recently gotten naked (partly, at least) with another young woman in his extended family, starting when she was 18.

Unschooled as you are in the mysteries of the East, David, you scoff--and to be frank, there were quite a few raised eyebrows in India. One of the most vocal critics was Nirmal Kumar Bose, a university lecturer who served as Gandhi's interpreter in Noakhali. While conceding that no hanky-panky had taken place (Gandhi and his entourage typically all slept in the same room)Bose protested that the master was exploiting the women, each of whom felt she had a special place in his affections and became "hysterical" if slighted. (Here I follow the account by author Ved Mehta in his 1976 New Yorkerseries on Gandhi and his followers.) Gandhi, far from being abashed, vigorously defended himself in meetings, letters, and articles, arguing that making a woman "the instrument of my lust" would be far more exploitative than what he actually did.

Remarkably, the critics eventually quieted down. Even Bose, who quit in protest and later discussed the issue in a book, My Days With Gandhi, remained an admirer.

Now go figure how that compares with a Catholic priest spilling his seeds into the lower end of an altar boy's alimentary canal, simply because he can't masturbate, and it would be a biblical sin to fornicate with a woman.

Thanks for playing. :)

Nobody asked you to.

What PERVERTS like you would term "victims" , and ACTUAL "witnesses" , have testified in his favour.

And even CRITICS of his time - who were aghast at his "freakish" experiment - remained his admirerfor the truthfulness and conviction.

He NEVER hid what he did.

It was his experiment on SELF-CONTROL, and mastering over his carnal lust.

And he defended it truthfully in his autobiography, and in person.

THX 1138 11/10/04 11:30am

That he was.

He was no "ordinary" man, getting lap dances, and wanting to get under the pants of every chick.

There is a lot to learn from him, and not just "non-violent non-cooperation".

I have asked this question to so many Christians and interestingly they all responded like you did.  Not one had any clue and not one showed any interest in exploring this, for fear that they may find something that may shake their fantasy world.  Anyway, Jethro, find some courage to answer that question of mine.

Why do believers become so hostile when asked to clarify something, it is not like we are trying to convert them?  The people of the book should show compassion and love to nonbelievers and explain everything so that they become believers.  American believers usually chase nonbelievers away if they ask questions.  What a pity!
