It's time for the Medallion Hunt! The first clue will appear on PioneerPlanet just after midnight Saturday, Jan. 22. Come back here to compare notes with other treasure seekers, but be certain you read the rules on the Planet's Winter Carnival page.

No, I didn't go out today. Wiped out for all the hours of digging yesterday and last night. I'll go out again tonight. Hopefully No. 9 will help.
Hey Spencer! In think that the reason it is so difficult this year is because: 1 it is the 150th anniversary of the P.P. and 2 $10,000 is on the line! So Tonight the clue
has to pinpoint something. I decided to skip school tomorrow to find that piece of shit medallion. Because if you look around this hunt has made savages out of us.
We are almost at each others throats for the thing! Although thats just my opinion I may be wrong.
But then again, if it is an address, it would be awfully strange for them to provide a clue of such precision so early. If we look at doors at Conway, there are doors to
the rec center, doors to the library, and doors to the surrounding homes. Each has only one front door however, and the number on the rec center is 2090. Hmmm,
Hey everyone, I haven't posted here for days because a: I haven't had tons of luck figuring out the clues this year, and b: it is very hard this year to slog pages and/or
post within the span of a human life time. Had a bunch of you going to Newell this year, though. (Nyuk, Nyuk!)
Actually, most of the people I have met on the hunt have been very civil and quite cool, although most admit that this hunt is taking an inordinate amount of their time.
I brought a shovel to Mass this morning so I could search the park in front of the Cathedral right after. Couldn't tell you what that homily was about.
OK - here are my thoughts. "Merriam" is on many tomes -- dictionaries. Nine is the # of people playing baseball, five for basketball, four tennis courts on each park.
Ann (name to show you a sign) Arbor (trees) is near Merriam. The space needle from the fairgrounds is seen from Merriam Park. Longfellow School (located at
Merriam Park) is where one learns, also is the name of a man of fame. That said, I beleive it's at Linwood! What a confusing mess!

For some reason I think the 9-5-4 mean that those would be the best clues to lead to the place...except for the last one of course. Call it a long shot..but I dont

I don't like the 9-5-4 sports interpretation. There are nine players on 1 basbeball team and five players on 1 basketball team, but it takes both teams to make four in
-ATTENTION- I am deeply sorry to say this but the medallion has been found. The medallion was hidden at Newell Park in a place called Devils Den. The
medallion was hidden in a baseball lined up with 2nd base, 3rd base and right field. Tomorrows meanings of all the clues will be out tomorrow. It was a great turn
out and will hope to see all of you next year. Goodnight.
That was good, Mushie. The Clue person has been very clever in referencing many parks. Merriam could be it. Can you see a translucent light from the park?
I agree 9-5-4 is not a reference to players on a team. If it is, I'd say it is the lousiest clue I've heard in 8 years. It could be hours a building is open, an address or it
could pinpoint according to types of treest, clusters of trees, etc.. as they've done in the past.
There's no point knocking yourself out over this one. It could be anything.
Oh Water Cooler that was once my gateway to the deeper understanding of the Hunt for the Medallion! What fell traffic has laid the noble Cooler low?
In other words this kinda bites this year. And with MY $10,000 at stake! How am I to leech the information I need off of my fellow searchers without this medium?!
I'm back, I couldn't stay away. Great reasoning, Mushie, about Merriam except for one thing. I live nearby and checked it out tonight--a guy there thought the same
as you about the tomes. But St. Mark's steeple is not transluscent! I attend there and I have NEVER seen it lit up! The guy there pointed to a building across the
freeway as the peak, but it seemed pretty slim to me! A lot of the other clues seem to match up, though.
Actually, there is a point in knocking myself out over it because I have all the other clues figured out and I'm hoping this one will tell me where to dig (or otherwise
search). I thought about the tree thing, but trees don't have doors, so I think its one of the first two. I have no doubt its at Conway, but my address interpretations
have not yielded the treasure, so I'm looking for a new theory.
954 is the house address across the street when you're standing in Conway park. South of that spot are trees in a row (wood row). North of that is a sign for
Conway park. Translucent peak at Sun Ray shopping Center. Study the past at the library there. Fly downhill on the slide. Wilson (Woodrow) street.....

The thing is at mounds park!!!!!!! I was out there at 1:20 am last night and there was about a hundred people looking..

WeeMonster - Save the trees! We like how you think. Gotta pull some covers off of some rose bushes...

is this sparking anyone's imagination yet?

Hi Fr. Stan if you are out there!
Actually, most of the people I have met on the hunt have been very civil and quite cool, although most admit that this hunt is taking an inordinate amount of their time.

DONT READ INTO THE CLUES SO MUCH!!!!!
I don't know what 9-5-4 could mean the only numbers that make sense are the addresses
How big is the medallion?
no no no... Translucent peak means a light shining through.. if you've ever been to Mounds park there is a light tower.. In one of the clues it says to stay off the
fairway it means the airway..
Yes, Pat Newell mania was running wild! I went there yesterday. Wowee did people sift that snow. I still think it might be there.....
For some reason I think the 9-5-4 mean that those would be the best clues to lead to the place...except for the last one of course. Call it a long shot..but I dont
know.
whats up with the last clue??? something its hidden in????
no no no... Translucent peak means a light shining through.. if you've ever been to Mounds park there is a light tower.. In one of the clues it says to stay off the
fairway it means the airway.. The quarry part comes in with baseball field same with 9 innings 5 which is a full count and four fouls..

The tension is building, isn't it. This is so much fun. The Aquatennial is great, but my vote goes to the Winter Carnival.
will be at john ireland tonight to find it along with every one else there is a lot of clues about 9-5 and somewhere a four out there
9,5,4, are the tv channels for our area??
That is so funny, Downtown Dave. At least you went to mass today.
Jim--Ireland is heavily sifted.....Good Luck, though. Mad Raker, Good work with Ann Arbor. Haven't heard that before. It's good.
I don't like the 9-5-4 sports interpretation. There are nine players on 1 basbeball team and five players on 1 basketball team, but it takes both teams to make four in
tennis. Why the inconsistency?
I wish someone anyone would find it, i can't wait to read the explantions for these clues!!!!!!!
Not if you play doubles Allison...
Mushie, the steeple theory????? for 8
Not if you play doubles Allison...
Gotta go--see you all at 23:30

Mushiew:
Get a clue, clueless!!!!!
That was good, Mushie. The Clue person has been very clever in referencing many parks. Merriam could be it. Can you see a translucent light from the park?
If you play doubles in tennis, you have two people on one team. It takes both teams to make four. So doubles is what I was referring to.
what about Translucent peak?

I better do some homework. See you all later! Thanks for all the help, and sorry I didn't help much
Yes, if you play doubles, Allison is right

I think I shall weep buckets of tears.
I hope nobody believes that message.
whats up with the last clue??? something its hidden in????
did you see that pioneer press thing?
(Deleted item originally posted by Newell Pfool on 10:01pm Jan 31, 1999 CST)
The translucent peak is the church steeple that can be seen from behind the park ... I think it is St. Marks up there....
I'm back, I couldn't stay away. Great reasoning, Mushie, about Merriam except for one thing. I live nearby and checked it out tonight--a guy there thought the same

Yes, it was a fake, the email address was at hotmail, it would have been a pioneerplanet web address had it been authentic.
seen the grand casino sign today i think i might be on to some thing also
Pioneer Press did not post the "found" message. It is a bogus message.
(Deleted item originally posted by seacool98 on 10:04pm Jan 31, 1999 CST)
No, nobody believes that message. His email address is: klf102@hotmail.com. Send him your thoughts....
That wasn't very nice PIE... :(
NO BECAUSE THE PIONEER PRESS EMAIL IS NOT KLF@HOTMAIL.COM, REST ASSURED PEOPLE THEY WOULD POST ON CARNIVAL
PAGE IF IT WERE FOUND. See you all out there at 11:30!
I called PP...nope, hasn't been found yet. There's still a chance for us all.
