I was responding to your statement, THX. I still don't know what it had to do with my post. Powell once had a reputation as a straight-talking truthful man, but that's irrevocably gone.
Colin Powell once had a reputation as a truthful man. He made a speech at the UN to make America's case for invading Iraq; it was a damned good speech.
Unfortunately, it was a tissue of lies, and he ignored the conclusions of analysts in the State Department he headed in order to push the Bush administration's agenda before the world body. He sold his soul; I hope he got a good price for it.

I don't believe he thought them lies.
Clinton, Gore, Kerry... all believed Saddam had WMD's.
jethro, what language is it that you speak? It appears to be English, but it's obvious that a number of words do not mean the same thing to you that they do to the rest of the people who speak it.
You are a conceited and arrogant bastard. Do you understand that?
I've only read what he posts here, but he doesn't come off to me as an extreme Lefty. Depends on what your definition of extreme lefty is. Just because there is someone more extreme doesn't make him any less extreme. Read more.
I like you too, THX -- you're not a knee-jerk kind of guy.
We disagree on a lot of things, but next time I've got more than a two-hour layover at Minneapolis, let's go to Famous Dave's. I'll buy the first round and a plate of ribs.
Depends on what your definition of extreme lefty is.
Yeah, I guess it does.
Just because there is someone more extreme doesn't make him any less extreme.
Sure it does. If there's someone more extreme, that would make him less extreme.

Yeah I am. I've said and done things I've regretted. Especially to Rick, cuz he really is a good guy.

I'd love that. How often you get to the Twin Cities?
I was in MSP (one of the greatest airports to spend time in that I've ever seen) three times in the last year, and had a three-hour layover once, but the "invisible friend" I went to Famous Dave's with was prettier than you. No offense meant, of course.
jethro, if exposing the flaws in your logic and your ability to express yourself is "arrogant and condescending," I plead guilty.
MSP airport has at least three REAL bookstores, a Lands' End store, and some decent places to eat; hard to beat for a two-hour layover. Famous Dave's isn't the best 'que I've eaten, but it's better than adequate, and downright astonishing for a chain. I wouldn't mind investing in one if they ever get to California.
but indictment isn't jail. indictment just means they get to have a trial. under your theory all the opposition has to do is go to a county with a favorable constituency and get an indictment. Under this method the entire congress could be removed.
This guy seems to have a good idea of what it's about:
"I like the liberal cat owners vs. conservative dog owners theory, it meshes with my own crackpot theory. There is a fundamental difference between cats and dogs. Dogs must be trained to obey their masters, but cats just do whatever the hell they want. Dog owners tend to be control freaks, they want a pet that will satisfy their need for power, even over a dumb animal. The dogs I know now are so insecure. They've been so pampered, they must have constant attention. "Love me, love me, please, I'm so lonely." Yeeesh! Enough already!
A cat, you need to meet halfway. If you try hard enough, you'll get some respect.
I like that in a pet.

What happens if, as soon as the guy is kicked out, the charges are dropped? I think they need to let the criminal case take its course. If convicted then he's bounced. If acquitted he stays, at least until the next election.
What if?
What if he's guilty as hell and continues to abuse his position in office?
I'm more inclined to believe that a person gets indicted for a reason.
All an indictment means is that the members of a Grand Jury think that there is enough evidence to warrant a jury trial. No more, no less. It is not a conviction in any way shape or form.
We still live in the land of Innocent until Proven quilty don't we?
"The strong GOP showing validated the strategy of House Majority Leader Tom DeLay (R-Tex.), who guided the Texas legislature in redrawing the state's 32 House districts to maximize Republican victories. The redistricting process triggered court challenges and Democratic denunciations, but it clearly paid off yesterday.
"Just as DeLay had planned, his state became a graveyard for several Democratic veterans. Thirteen-term Rep. Martin Frost (D) lost to four-term Rep. Pete Sessions (R) in a bitter Dallas face-off, and Rep. Charles W. Stenholm -- another Democrat with 26 years in the House -- lost to first-term Rep. Randy Neugebauer (R) in the panhandle. Four-term Rep. Max Sandlin (D) fell to former judge Louis Gohmert (R), and four-term Rep. Nicholas V. Lampson (D) lost to another Republican former judge, Ted Poe."

We've all done that at one time or another here.

People bitch about it a lot, but MSP is an OK airport. Getting to short-term parking is a pain. Glad they didn't build a new one.
Famous Dave's is kinda contrived. I'm not a big barbecue eater, but I think there's better in the TC's.
[Edited 4 times. Most recently by on Nov 16, 2004 at 03:46pm.]
I haven't traveled a whole lot so I haven't been in many airports, but I've always liked MSP.
Worst airport I've ever been to is KC. What a dump. No shops, nowhere to eat. Nothing to do. Ugh!
Best airport I've been in is the one in Orlando. I haven't been there in about 15 years, but I recall it being really nice.
Anyway Pieter. If you want good ribs and want to try something different in Minneapolis try:
Rudolphs http://www.rudolphsribs.com/
Market BBQ http://www.marketbbq.com/
once the light rail gets to MSP it will be sweet as hell for people on a lay over. quick and easy to go to moa or downtown.

According to the website, you still need to take a shuttle bus from one of the stations to get to the airport and the mall.
Direct Airport service should open in December.

Only in comparison is one less extreme than the other. It in no way changes the views of either person.

I see you have a rich fantasy life. That is typical of most left wingers.
maybe the indictments for his "associates" were political. isn't that a possibility?
House Republicans proposed changing their rules last night to allow members indicted by state grand juries to remain in a leadership post,
I have no doubts this is politically motivated. It doesn't matter. If he's indicted, he should be kicked out of Congress.
If he's indicted, he should be kicked out of Congress.
Even if the indictment is politically motivated and has no merit? I mean in the house one has to be convicted before they get bounced.

That's how the systems works.
Remember, you're the guy that once said if someone is in jail, they obviously did something.

Only Democrats are guilty. Republicans are moral as saints and pure as the wind-driven snow.

There will be no conviction. The Hammer should be acquitted immediately because he's such a good man.
[Edited by on Nov 17, 2004 at 09:11am.]
It can be. But many people that are indicted are not convicted. Your point is what? Guilty until proven innocent?
I see your point, but are we to allow someone to continue to hold office, even though they've been indicted, and could potentially be convicted?
Especially when what they are indicted for is usually directly related to their position in office?

In the case of Democrats, jethro is willing to forgo indictment and conviction -- rumor is enough.
Pass some of the BBQ gored ox, would you, THX?
currently you need to take a shuttle bus to "fort snelling" to ride the light rail.
But...
I think its dec 6th (i'm not sure) that its going to be linked up to the rest of the line.
the light rail is a sweet set up.

What nonsense! If it is a democrat they should be lynched!!!!

sure is. they recently opened the 4th airside there too.
can somebody please find me a site that has stats on % of democrats that are cat owners.
I know its sounds dumb...but I'm wondering .
Probably more Cat People among Democrats, I'd wager.
We don't have either, right now, but The Rat would go with a Cat.
Here's a whole blog site on the politcs of cats and dogs

Being in a position of political power creates special circumstances.
And I hate to say it, but I don't think Jethro would have a problem with this if we were talking about a Liberal Democrat.
Fascist pig-dog DeLay won't go down. Not after delivering House seats in Texas. His contention is that the state can redistrict whenever he sees fit.

We've gone over this before, but the new redistricting better represents the voting base of the state of Texas.
It was the Democrats that were guilty of gerrymandering in the past.
