Not sure I really wantto work there any more!

That bites 3M but keep in mind that if you take off you loose severance and that's probably what they're banking on.

On the same kinda note, my impulsive other half decided to quit her job yesterday with no plan in sight.  It pisses me off big time since we were going backwards when she was working.  I just don't get it some times.  Things would really have to be pretty bad for me to quit a job without first having a contingency plan.

And with that - Hi clucky, Raaaaaaaaaaandy Ruuuuuuuuuuuust, G, me2, OTS and the rest of you regs.  Looks like it's picking up around here.  And THX - what 3M said was what I meant to say about the threads.  There are currently 2309 posts marked as unread back to 11/10/03 for the War In Iraq thread today.

I can't do your game because this is what I get at work:

Hello!

Back from some crazy place where internet service has been sporadic at best since Christmas Day evening.  Thank goodness that's over!  A Comcast technician came out today and found two wires had been switched where it comes into the house.  I know we didn't touch it so why has it worked for months and then not hardly worked since Saturday?!?!  Once in awhile, we would have a few seconds or perhaps an hour of service and then it would go out again.

3M - sorry about the job situation.  No easy answers to why employers do the things they do, but because they control our wallets, we do what we need to do.

CM - Maybe she'll find something that will create a forward movement?  Hope she finds something soon.

We've been busy, busy, busy with the kid home, but it's all been good.  He's finally speaking to us in all English instead of a mixed Spanglish.  He looks great and has a really nice tan.  Some of the stories we're hearing would curl your hair.  I'll hate to see him go back next week, but it wouldn't be like him not to finish what he started.

Thanks for the positive vibes TV.

Glad you're enjoying having the boy back for the holidays.  It's kinda weird that you'll be tearing up for two seperate reasons within a span of only two weeks.

My Master, I've got to jump on doing my resume.  Jan may be the month when I get the ax.  I've known since late Oct that many of us will be going (but not when), but have not been able to do much about it [job hunting] with all else I've had going on.

I've pretty much gotten things settled down to just finding a free, reliable car (Shit Mobile had a new fuel pump put in and I had to have it towed TWICE in one weekend recently ($70/a tow...), new back struts - and the car's STILL not running right and will bounce three lanes over when I hit a bump.  I've pretty much hit my max on dollars I can sink into it.
<sigh>); starting school; and trying to convince the electrical inspector to cut me some slack and not shut off all my utilities.  Seems I let a permit expire (AGAIN).  And I've not the means/funds to pay the electrician the $1,200 ittiz gonna cost to have the wiring done to statisfy the permit.

Enkneebuddy know enkneething about the Warren Act.  Isn't it two months notice a company has to give you?  Or izzit just one?  I'm gonna look it up on The 'Net anykneeweighs, so like, never mind!

OT, you work near a Foxy kind'a place?

Hay, Ter!  Tell son I said, "Hola!"  Glad you're having fun.  Knew you would!

I believe so but it's up to the company if they have you work it or not.  Either way they still need to pay you.

My understanding is the State of Minnesota is an employment-at-will state.  No notice is necessary.

I working at Ecolab now in customer service.  Speaking of which, I think they are looking to hire.  I know unfortunately some people are looking for jobs.  I would hurry though because I would think they're going to fill quickly.

Speaking of Jobs....... IF anyone would like to apply at Comcast... I can't promise anything more then my reference but you are more then welcome to have it. I can submit people "from the inside" and give a little push.... depends on what they are hiring for. Starting pay in the cable company isn't to bad... not to mention the benefits across the board. Anyone is welcome to contact me one on one and I will do what I can.

That bites 3M but keep in mind that if you take off you loose severance and that's probably what they're banking on.

That was my severance! The only other thing we get is unemployment. Thats reason enough notto quit though.

On the same kinda note, my impulsive other half decided to quit her job yesterday with no plan in sight.  It pisses me off big time

Wow CM! Sorry to hear that. She must have had a good reason though.

And THX - what 3M said was what I meant to say about the threads.  There are currently 2309 posts marked as unread back to 11/10/03 for the War In Iraq thread today.

What did I say?? Think it was some one else. I'm not having any problems with unread messages.

3M - sorry about the job situation.  No easy answers to why employers do the things they do, but because they control our wallets, we do what we need to do.

Thanks for the kind words TV! Glad your having a great visit with your kid! And your right. I will do what I have to do. I decided to just call in sick on monday and tuesday to help my wife with her surgery. That way I at least get paid at half rate. Otherwise if I ask they'll make me take PTO with no pay.

Enkneebuddy know enkneething about the Warren Act.  Isn't it two months notice a company has to give you?  Or izzit just one?  I'm gonna look it up on The 'Net anykneeweighs, so like, never mind!

Yes it is 60 days work or 60 days pay they have to give  you. It applies to layoffs of 50 or more people. Check the web for the unemployment sites. heres a link for dislocated workers
http://www.deed.state.mn.us/dw/

Look for info on the WARN ACT.

My understanding is the State of Minnesota is an employment-at-will state.  No notice is necessary.

Not true. It does depend on the size of the company and amount of workers leaving etc. Best to check the site. There are a lot of varibles, but there is a page there somewhere that has a condensed version that will answer most of your questions.

When I got out of the Army all I wanted was a job.. I didn't care what it was. I applied to be and was accepted to be an installer.... but during the couple days that followed my interview my communications background got me in as an analyst.....still..... the installers make ok money and the benefits are pretty damn good.

Ter, I know that for *firing* a company does not have to give you two weeks notice - the employment at will thinghy.  But I thought layoffs were different.  The Warren Act's a fed thinghy, not a state thinghy.

Thanks for the link, Mikey.  Hope everything goes well for your wifey Mon-Tues.

I think I found out last nite why the Shit Mobile bounces all over the road and the front end goes one way with the back end going the opposite.  Seems she was hit in October and the force bent some rod thinghy.  (Ittiz a guy thing; I don't know Bo Diddley about cars/rods/etc.)  Rod's been straightened and they think the Shit Mobile's otay now.  We'll see.

Me2, I'd give my right arm to work at the Hysterical Society.  But they'd fire me in the first week.  Think they'd get tired real quick of me saying, "Sssshhhh!  Don't bother me, I'm reading/learning."

On-The, *do* you work near a Foxy place?????

(Edited.  Sorry, Mr. Mikey!!!)

OTS - What is the pay range for cable installers? I imagine it is around $15/hr or so, but I'm not sure. I'm actually at my last day of work at my current job right now as I write this. I've taken a teaching gig at Bethel College in January and will be looking for a new job come Febuary 7th...

There are three main field offices... Brooklyn Park, Roseville at Woodhill and the crew out of St Paul. There is also the Master Headend in Roseville off Fairview. All of the main like techs and inspectors run out of that facility. There is on little shop in Arden hills as well but they don't have much.

Then all over the metro we have Hub sites i.e St Paul Sims, Webster, Shoreview blah blah blah.. like 16 in all. Those might have techs around but they don't work out of them. They might just be making repairs or doing maintenance.
