Kitch, we're bringing cameras with us this year, but we're planning on hunting more than shooting.  The DVD extras are in good shape.  There are a few more "insert shots" that we want to get, some audio that we want to clean up, and we need to do another interview with Mr. Med Hunter (since he's now finished with his book). Of course, if someone tells us a story or something that we haven't heard and that we think is of interest, we'll pull the cameras out. Also, you never know what's going to happen with each hunt (e.g. end of 2004 hunt), so if things get interesting, we might pull out the cameras.  For the most part, though, we just want to enjoy the hunt.  It's been a long road for us shooting-wise, and it's going to be even a longer road going to film festivals, getting distribution, etc.

Re: Is this the final version of the film?  Jackie and I undoubtedly will make changes to the film after seeing it ten times with different audiences.  You can edit and think about the film all you want, but it's a much different game when you see it with an audience.  Originally, we were going to test the film first with a NYC audience, but then we thought that that was uncool: we want the hunters to see it first. So we'll probably also test it with a NYC audience in March.  We're covering a lot of hunters and a lot of ground in this film, and we're curious as to whether or not that approach works.

The DVD will contain a longer version of the film (as well as 2-3 more hours of extras). For film festivals, however, will need a viable 2-hour version.  "Cold Feet" will play the film festival circuit from September 2005 to September 2006, during which it will pick up a distributor, who will then distribute it to the rest of the U.S. and the world.  So it might be another two years before the film is available commercially nationally.  We didn't want med hunters to wait that long (since we've already taken four years to make the film), so we're taking this unusual approach of showing the film early like this.

Also, we will put out a special hunter's edition of the DVD later this year.  It will contain a lot extras (details that a hunter will probably only appreciate) that probably won't make it into the mainstream DVD version. We will probably only print two or three thousand copies of that version of the DVD.

My apologies for this post being so long, but we've been e-mailed these questions many times, and we wanted to clarify what our plans are.

And one other thing... Jackie and I are very interested in hearing what people think of the film.  Feel free to e-mail us your harshest criticism.  We want to know what everyone thinks works and doesn't work, what we should include that we didn't include and/or what's included that shouldn't be included.

These comments and criticisms will be very helpful to us as we make final decisions as to what stays in the 2-hour film festival version and on the longer DVD version.  Thanks in advance.

Every time Jake calls me and asks me what I'm doing, I say, "Trying to cut as much of you out of the film as possible."

Actually, what would be good to do for future versions, Tim, is to transplant your head on to Jake's body.  That way we can gave a "Good Tim" and his "Evil Brother Tim."  See, your criticisms have already inspired constructive changes in the film.

As the say in the film world, you never "finish" a film, you just decide to stop working on it.  Or, as we filmmakers know, "You never finish a film, you just run out of time and money."  That's why filmmakers who get a chance to do more work on an older film frequently do (recent examples such as Spielberg on "Close Encounters," Lucas on "Star Wars," Coppola with "Apocalypse Now," and of course, the all-time classic example of Orson Welles).

Jackie and I are trying to make the most of  this digital video format because with film, once you cut the negative, you're in a bit of trouble.  With digital video you have a lot more freedom, and hopefully at the end of this process, we can as close as we can to what the essence of this hunt is (though to a certain extent, we think it's nearly impossible to get across that because, as with all things, you have to live it, taste it, experience it to really get its full effect).

Ian, Jake's relative is on the list you linked to.  Actually, when Jake told me about his "relative," I didn't believe him, so I did some "research," and indeed his story checked out (and as we all know, not all of Jake's stories check out).

Not sure I should tell you all this :)... But I dated a girl back in High School who took up a few roles in the "adult film industry". I'm not sure how long she did it for. She tried to find me when we were still in Germany to just to say hi. That was in 99. haven't heard from her sense.

Not related though ;)

Hopefully the DVDs will be available in June.  And yes, Jackie and I will sign anyone's DVD who wants a signature.  I think my signature might actually devalue the product, but certainly Jackie's has value.

Okay, then just Jackies signature for my copies. I don't want to harm any future investments.

My personal take on the value:

When we finally get a house we have plans for our basement / Home theater. Some of this has to do with a wall of important things to us. All of our Army stuff, things from our time in Europe and of course Winter Carnival stuff. I love the history in this state and so much revolves around it that I want a place for my personal things related to it. My kids are only 5 and 6 but they are going to be hunting for real with me this year. These treasures (No time for cold feet), my buttons, post cards and pictures etc will be theirs when they get older. No loss in the value there Trent.

We will take two :)

I'm sure I could work out getting Angus and Bud to sign some copies as well.  Bud's a little slippery, and Angus is in L.A. (he's actually moving to Japan in September for two years).  Speaking of Angus, he's flying in from LA for the Saturday screenings.  Pretty cool.  Angus is a great guy and made major contributions to the film. We're hoping to work with him (and many other Minnesotans who worked on this) on our next projects.

Re: my signature.  You have to remember what Bud's nickname is for me:  "Jackie's Lackey."  Actually, Jackie's pregnancies gave me a chance to step outside of her shadow, which was cool for me. I have a new appreciation, though, for the career sacrifices that women have to make.  It was tough for her not to be here for three hunts, though she's worked like a dog on the editing of the film.

Minnesota PAs who only worked on "Cold Feet" in 2002, 2003 and 2004 (for those you who don't know, Jackie was only in MN for the 2001 hunt) began to think that I had just invented this person named "Jackie."  Of course, when Angus moved to L.A. and started telling people he had worked on "Cold Feet," they had no idea who I was, but they knew Jackie of course.  So Angus thought it was so weird that to them I was just "that guy who works with Jackie."  So now I think he actually believes that there is a Jackie, and he'll finally get to meet her on the 22nd.

Man, do I ramble... I make Green seem coherent.

We run our production company business stuff on IBMs, but we're editing "Cold Feet" on Final Cut Pro/Macs, which is great because you can actually afford to buy an editing system and have it in your apartment/house.  We edited "The Curse" on Avids/Mac.  And Jackie and I are both old enough to have edited on Steenbecks, and we're happy those days are long gone.  And we're doing the DVD using DVD Studio Pro.

Well then I would suggest turning off the heat and leaving the doors open during the movie.  For the first showing anyway.  Try and keep it just cold enough to keep the pipes from freezing.  That way we can all wear our hunting gear throughout the first screening.

(man I impress myself)  ;-)
