One more trivia question before I go bowling. This one is tough. In 1972, Peggy Fritzke and Lola Mossbruegger found the medallion at Marydale Park. First an easy one, why was it significant that these two found the medallion in 1972? Now the tough part. How did these women know of Loeb Lake's existance and the fact it was public property. (There were homes on Loeb Lake until the early 50's.)

They worked for the city or parks dept?

The easy one:

They were 2 time finders after finding it in 1966.

The hard one:

One of them grew up on the lake?

You're kidding, right?

Kinda - I remember you saying that you set up a new account to see if there were any problems and thought Newbie might be you since they popped in around that same time.  Nevermind.

Hey where was Roger from anyway or are we still guessing?

He's more talented than I thought

I dare any of you to read even the first five titles this guy has published and not feel dumb as a rock afterwards.

This all begs the question... why do non-St. Paulites get so obsessed with this hunt to the point of writing books, or in the case of Jackie and me, making a documentary?  Coincidence or enemy action? :-)

Hay...  That "Newbie" guy?  If not Kirk Condie - what if ittz MILLETT???  Could bee!

Ittiz most likely Kirk as I can't see Millett being a bowler, or Boxmeyer.  But Millett and/or Boxmeyer - both - would prolly know all that stuff.  Still, I bet Condie.

But any one o'the three checking in HERE!  HOLY CROW!

I'd die if Millett or Boxmeyer came here - they're my heros.

I was bron in CO and lived there till age 9, moved to Orlando, lived there till age 20 - went in the Army (SC, GA and Germany). Then we moved here... and honestly...

This state and the people who live here are like no other place I have been to before. It's a large metro but at times it still has a small town feel to it.

Trent, I'm reading a book that that takes place in/around DC, and they talk about Silver Springs all the time.  Makes me think o'the "B" word and you and the X constantly.

They're NOT painting a good pic o'Silver Springs. Nosirreee.

I share OTS sentiments, and it's exactly the reason that I really want us to relocate to Saint Paul (or a nearby suburb).

Re: Millet and bowling.  Funny you should mention them in the same breath, Verde.  When we inteviewed Millet, he did say something about his son's obsession with bowling.  Hmm...

Silver Springs is heaven compared to a place called Oxon Hill, MD, which is in a place called Prince George's County, which is h___ on earth (IMHO).

In case anyone besides Tim cares, I will now share the answer to the 1972 trivia question with everyone. It is as follows: Peggy Fritzke lived at 98 North Dale Street (do what is necessary to verify this information, but it is factual) which is about 3 blocks north of Summit Ave. Peggy drove by the (future) park every day on her way to and from work. Very few knew of Loeb Lake's existance as a possible hiding place, props to the cluewriters! FYI, the medallion was hidden at noon during a major snowstorm about two weeks before the hunt............

Interesting to see the guesses as to my identity......... I know A LOT more than any of you think.......

Now on to the next trivia question.......

Another 2 part question. The medallion was hidden at Marthaler Park in 1979. Of course, we'll first ask the easy question: why was this hunt significant to medallion hunt history???

Now the tough question (I don't expect anyone to know the answer to this one, I am only asking because it is VERY interesting) What happened in 1979 at Marthaler to put the cluewriters to the test?????

Well it was outside the Ramsey County boundaries for one but not sure on the second part.

Is it because they used the same rhyming word in clue 2?  Or the safe wording of clue 4 to keep people from going onto the lake?

The tree it was hidden on fell?  All the snow melted.  OK I'm done for now

How did you do bowling? Ever enter any tournaments?

Have you ever met Trent?

Do you participate in the medallion hunt?

Will you attend the PDG?

Fun, fun reading!  I used to be able to keep information like all that in my head before I had kids.....I know I won't remember any of it, but it's sure been fun to learn anyway!

I like St. Paul a lot too.  Grew up here, moved away, moved back.  Things probably would be easier for us, if we lived somewhere else  - at least right now, the drive time thing sux, but I'm holding out hope that the job thing will wind up closer some day.

Anyone know where to get a pocket knife for a cub scout (Besides the cub scout shop). It doesn't have to be a Scout knife.

I'm from a little town in Wisconsin by the name of Alma Center. (Yes, Ian near Black River Falls)

Why am I obsessed with the hunt - My phychiatrist has been trying to figure that out for years. The only thing that he has come up with is that I grew up in a town that was too small for a town drunk, so we all took turns. I next turn is Friday.

As far as making money is concerned - I think that I figured out the other day that if I sell all 500 copies of the book, I'll make just over $0.03/hour before taxes.

Re: Making money.  A couple of years ago while editing Steve W's intro, Jackie and I tried to figure out how many hours he had put into his book versus what he could have made if he sold every copy he ever had printed.  We kept our hour estimation low and our copies sold high, and guess what... it came to something like 6 cents an hour, and realistically, it's a lot less (if that's even possible).  Steve would know better.

I want to say that Newbie is Jake.  Or someone very close to Jake.  Jake would have enough knowledge of the hunt to know little things like that, especially little facts about previous finders.  Plus his avatar is Dutch Boyd.  Dutch Boyd is a poker player, and Jake loves playing poker.

Here's a trivia question that only Newbie would know! What was the street address of two different finders and in what two years were their finds?

THX-any luck with this? Sorry if this advice is late but my two cents on pocket knive for them little cubbies is 1) go for a single locking blade not one of those multi tool (swiss army) ones and 2) teach first aid BEFORE finger carving!!

Yep, I got em at Wally World. Went to Target first but they only had the swiss army knives or these very sharp looking knives that shouldn't be in the hands of 9 year olds.

Thanks.
