I haven't been ice fishing in years, but I've done my share. Looking around outdoors stores it looks like it has changed alot. All kinds of different equipment.

But isn't a walleye through a ice a rarity? Bass for that matter. Seems like all I caught were northerns.

The experimental trout season started on some streams in SE Minnesota yesterday. Barbless hooks, catch and release only.

Bill,

In that area give Big Sandy a try. Square lake is also pretty good for walleyes. Green lake is o.k but since thye've started netting it's gone down but there are still some good areas on the eastern shore where the banks are steep.

Rat,

You should give it a try again. I use a portable with a sunflower heater. You could fish in your t-shirt. You can pretty much have all the comforts of home. I refuse to go sit on a bucket in 10 below weather if I can't be comfy forget it :)

Damn those things are ugly. :)

Green is hard because of the dark irony water. That west bay usually produces pretty well. Also the channel between center & South center is usually good for a few eyes.

Damn, .....Better hope Sandra never decides to hop on an aid helicopter to see her good works.

Tribe shoots arrows at aid flight

An Indian helicopter dropping food and water over the remote Andaman and Nicobar Islands has been attacked by tribesmen using bows and arrows.

There were fears that the endangered tribal groups had been wiped out when massive waves struck their islands.

But the authorities say the attack is a sign that they have survived.

More than 6,000 people there are confirmed as either dead or missing, but thousands of others are still unaccounted for.

The Indian coastguard helicopter was flying low over Sentinel Island to drop aid when it came under attack.

A senior police officer said the crew were not hurt and the authorities are taking it as a sign that the tribes have not been wiped out by the earthquake and sea surges as many had feared.

The Andaman and Nicobar archipelago is home to several tribes, some extremely isolated.

Officials believe they survived the devastation by using age-old early warning systems.

They might have run to high ground for safety after noticing changes in the behaviour of birds and marine wildlife.

She could walk safely through Rat Alley. I'd make sure nothing happened to her.

He sure did cause a lot of problems during Clinton's years.  Only once at the beginning Bush's term though.  Now he is running out of safe places to hide and his friends are disappearing also. He sure isn't talking so loud and proud anymore is he?

I heard a rumor that he was going to show up right before the election, but that did not happen.  Must have been someone with a chip on their shoulder that started that one.

What an idiot! Of course some other family has to bury their children while this fool lives on:

...Barlage was talking on a cell phone and trying to pass on two-lane Minnesota 50 when he collided with a 1995 Saturn heading in the opposite direction the evening of Oct. 10, according to the Minnesota State Patrol...

...According to court documents, his blood alcohol level was .15...

SPOKANE, Wash. Â— In a case that pits a woman's bid to divorce an abusive husband against a law designed to protect the rights of children and the state, a judge has revoked a pregnant woman's divorce until after she gives birth.

Spokane County Superior Court Judge Paul Bastine ruled that because Shawnna Hughes' ex-husband was not told she was pregnant at the time the divorce was granted, the divorce is illegal and must be revoked.

Hughes said her estranged husband is not the father.

State officials had worried that the divorce would leave no father financially responsible for the child.

Now that ISfunny...and a shame.

It is also a partial statement. He immediately realized his slip (unlike you spelling "restore" as "resore") and corrected it.

THE PRESIDENT: You're free. And freedom is beautiful. And, you know, it'll take time to restore chaos and order -- order out of chaos. But we will.

BOSTON Â— Red Sox fans have seen the video over and over again. A ground ball to pitcher Keith Foulke. He tosses it underhand to backup first baseman Doug Mientkiewicz, who raises it high as Boston celebrates its first World Series championship in 86 years.

Mientkiewicz still hasn't let go of the ball. But now the Red Sox want it back.

Calling the ball, "my retirement fund," Mientkiewicz stored it in a safe deposit box.

LOL!!  Awesome!  Don't give up shit. Let the Sox make themselves look bad by taking him to court and loosing.  Maybe he should have tossed it into the stands to his wife or someone.  The Sox couldn't touch them as well.

wouldn't the ball belong to MLB and not the Red Sox?

Fri, 01/07/2005 - 1:58 PM Permalink

I think if Dougie was able to get it out of the stadium it belongs to him. It's just another baseball.

Carmine Tiso, spokesman for MLB, told the Globe that Mientkiewicz owns the baseball, though Joe Januszewski, Red Sox director of corporate partnerships, said he thinks the team owns it.

"I know this ball has a lot of sentimental value," Mientkiewicz said. "I hope I don't have to use it for the money. It would be cool if we have kids someday to have it stay in our family for a long time. But I can be bought. I'm thinking, there's four years at Florida State for one of my kids. At least."

the ball didn't leave the playing field during the game and until it did I think an argument can be made it belongs to MLB.  I don't know what the basis of Boston's ownership claim would be.

exactly. and they gave up their claim to it with this:

not necessarily. It could have been a simple misstatement.  As far as I can see the best claim to ownership is MLB. Other than Doug having possession of the ball I don't see that he has any basis for ownership either. I mean at the office the secretary may take an ink pin home with her but that doesn't mean she legally owns it. This appears to be no different.

Survivors' benefits may be cut with Bush plan

If a breadwinner dies or becomes disabled, Social Security can keep a family from falling into poverty. But a proposal to change the way benefits are calculated could end that possibility.

"Today, more children rely on Social Security benefits for part of their family income than on Temporary Assistance for Needy Families, the nation's main cash welfare program."

And....

"If the government changes the way it calculates Social Security benefits, then millions of children would suffer when a parent dies without leaving them generous savings or life insurance."

This hasn't even been proposed yet and you guys act as if it is a done deal.  No one knows exactly what will be in the plan except maybe the psychic hot line people.  The president himself hasn't even come to a final decision on this yet.

That being said, why should the increase be based on wages instead of real inflation?

CBS News Switches to Reality Gameshow Format

by Scott Ott

(2005-01-11) -- When life hands you a lemon, the old saying goes, make lemonade. CBS NewsPresident Andrew Heyward is doing just that, announcing today that the CBS Evening News with Dan Ratherwill be re-launched on March 10 as Myopic Zeal: The CBS Evening News Gameshow.

"It's edgy, it's hip and it capitalizes on our key asset -- intermittent credibility," said Mr. Heyward, who survived a recent epidemic of myopic zeal which proved terminal for four of his staff. "Since the internal investigation report, viewers have wondered if we could ever be trustedagain. Instead of trying to rebuild that shattered credibility, which would take years and millions of dollars, we're going to roll with the punches."

The new show will feature the same set, the same reporters and the same style as Evening News Classic, but during each segment viewers can go to a website and vote on which elements of each story may be false, or at least lacking adequate authentication. Prizes will include cash and a chance to become a 'Myopic Zeal' correspondent for a day, which includes the full training course in ethics which 'big-time journalists' now receive.

ATLANTA  Â—

A federal judge on Thursday ordered  the removal of stickers placed in high school biology textbooks that call evolution "a theory, not
a fact."

The judge ruled that the disclaimers put in the books by
Cobb County
school officials in 2002 were unconstitutional.

Parents and the
American Civil Liberties Union
had challenged the stickers in court, arguing they violated the constitutional separation of church and state.

Another asinine federal court ruling.

Since it is indeed a theory (a book called The Theory of Evolution certainly isn't hiding the fact that it's a theory), a sticker would in fact be redundant, and therefore have a motive apart from simply explaining something about scientific theory.

Thu, 01/13/2005 - 7:38 PM Permalink

And what would that motive be?
