Trent- How come the info for NTFCF isn't on the mnfilmarts website under bell auditorium? Just wondering. Also were you ever in contact with Nicole Hinrichs-Bideau when getting grants and stuff through the minnesota film board?

Sorry I haven't posted Green, but I didn't get home until 6 this morning, and had something to do until about 10:15, then had a meeting at 1:30 this afternoon so I'm beat. I didn't want to dissapoint my loyal following though. I am usually a night owl anyways, so it works. Here is another trivia question......

How did Bill end up at that location, and where did he hunt previously, and why did he hunt there?

Tim, yes we know Nicole H-B.  She's awesome.  She's even tried to help us in our move to MN.  She's one of the handful of Minneapolitans who actually has a clue when it comes to the greater world of filmmaking and film distribution.  Unfortunately, though many Minneapolitans think they're sophisticated... (I'll stop here... trust me, you'll hear more about this from me in the future).  I love Minnesota, but I hate Minneapolis.  Oh, I'm sorry... the mini-Apple.

Re: MN grants.  We've told this story many times, but here it goes again.  In the late-90s and early-00s (up to the point we decided to fund it ourselves and just came to shoot it in 2001), Jackie and I applied to McKnight and Jerome for funding for both the documentary and narrative versions of this film.  All grant applications were denied.  Please remember this as the film makes its way out into the world.

Re: the Bell.  Just as the MN film grant community has shown us so much love, the Bell (and other venues) weren't willing to give us dates close to the Winter Carnival that were acceptable to us (Mon-Wed nights are not acceptable days of the week, and early January or mid-February are not acceptable times).  Neither were they willing to give us acceptable financial terms.  And this is the quote that we kept hearing for months (remember, we had been trying since August to book dates): "Who is going to want to see a movie about people hunting for a medallion?"

So, Jackie and I, being the bold and arrogant little indie filmmakers that we are, decided to write a big check and rent the Bell for ten screenings.  We don't need the Bell's advertising; we don't need to be on the Bell's schedule.  We can pack the place through our own advertising and word-of-mouth.  Most people aren't this crazy, but then again, most people don't spend 5+ years making a film about a medallion hunt.  We talk it, we walk it.

As a side note to all of this this, Jackie and I have refused to show anyone the film (including theater owners), so perhaps their nervousness is understandable.  But we do have a track record, and we did send them 30 minutes, which is enough to get the idea of the film.  Also, please note that when we showed 20 minutes of this in NYC in September 2001, New Yorkers went bonkers for it.  The 30 mintues we sent Minneapolis theater owners was much better than the 20 minutes we showed in NYC (due to the additional footage we shot from 2002-2004).

So as you're exiting the packed "Cold Feet" screenings, wave to the 10 people waiting to see the latest Holocaust/Israeli-Palestinian conflict documentary.  Oftentimes, people who book dunghills like the Bell have "agendas," and I can tell you from years of being in this business, that the treasure hunt doesn't fit this "agenda."

I just want to remind people that the intent of the book was to compile and share the information from past newspaper articles. Yes, anyone can go out and find all the information in the book. I hope that I am saving people the time and effort of many hours researching this same information.

ESD, respectfully, I'd do something much more dark and star-warsey.  How about a dark sillouette of people with headlamps and you can see their breath, all with different hunting implements?  Something that's obviously a copy from another movie, like from highlander.

Really, the most dramatic images, i think, are of what you see when you hunt at night.  Some of my most favorite pictures are of the night.  I have a pic of cluemaster that looks like he's wrapped in smoke.

My son lives in Linden Hills, and I'd move there in a heartbeat if I could afford it.  I've always liked Minneapolis.  But of course, I don't live in St. Paul so don't really feel that rivalry.

Yes, the title for the doc came from the 1999 slogan/motto, but ironically or not-so-ironically, Jackie's original romantic comedy script that she wrote in the early 90s about the hunt was called "Cold Feet."  We changed the title to "No Time for Cold Feet" when we rewrote the script after the 1999 hunt (we followed the hunt on the boards).  And then later we just kept the title for the documentary.
