1999 Pioneer Press Medallion Hunt

Submitted by Casey Trauer on

It's time for the Medallion Hunt! The first clue will appear on PioneerPlanet just after midnight Saturday, Jan. 22. Come back here to compare notes with other treasure seekers, but be certain you read the rules on the Planet's Winter Carnival page.

Oh that's right Bill, you're the one who insists iconoclast = Highlander. The iconoclast in Conway is simply saying that its somewhere its never been before, which its

never been in Conway before. Or possibly it means its been hidden in a way that you would not expect, which could be any park then. The clue says you need to

BE an iconoclast, not LOOK for one. Two, being in Highland Park doesn't make you a Highlander. And three, to say you can be an iconoclast by imitating someone

is something of a paradox.

WS Will do you actually live on the West Side. If you were out did you still see a number of people at Kellogg digging?

What If I told you, it wasn't at either Highland or Conway?

My take on the iconoclast thing is that this is the first year it has been at a rec center type park as opposed to parks like Highland, Como, Newell, Phalen.

Hey gordon if you read tonight's clue carefully it says ALSO help to orient you, the water on high and red object are separate items, like they are at the right park

Mon, 02/01/1999 - 2:24 AM Permalink
CHRIS13

it really could be at a number of parks. with all that money at stake they are not going to make it easy

PJ Martain,

I do live on the west side. We did run down to Harriett (sp?) and there were some people there. But very few. From there we went straight to conway via the hwy

52 bridge. I think I might check out Kellogg after work. My gut tells me conway right now. All the clues fit for me but the tome one.

I was joking on the Rice park...I honestly have no clue where it is...I was thinking Conway, Highland, and for some reason Hillcrest

I just got back from Conway. Was in a spot where I was lined up the 4 rows of trees, Could see the 3M and the 1st sign and also the water tower. No luck though,

thought I was on to something. There is a spot where you can see the translucent peak at the Sunray center and the 3M and Water Tower. It is alittle past second

base towards center field on filed #2. It was pretty dug up already though.

The parks that I know of that have been dug up and mostly abandoned this year are Newell, Battle Creek, Highland, Como, Rice, Kellogg, Capitol Mall, Phalen,

Mounds, Linwood and Merriam. This has been a tough year.

As for the 9-5-4 at Conway, that's been bothering me a lot, mostly because I think it holds the key to where to look in the park. The problem is if 9-5-4 is an

address, doesn't that seem just a bit too specific? These clues almost never come out and say something directly, especially not in the third clue. So 9-5-4 as an

address may not actually apply to any park.

I've got my map out and I still can't find this Conway Park everybody is sure abut. Where is it??

gordon c,

Not mad. Just frustrated like everyone else. When you just get back from a park where 100s of people have been looking all day. And directions have been posted

here all day, it gets frustrating when someone asks where the park is.

I'm not sure I understand your question Regalman, but here's an attempt at an answer. This is what I think Clue #4 says: Studying past treasure hunts can be quite

fun, but you'll find it worthwhile to consider something new, So if you're willing to go against the established traditions, the treasure might belong to you.

still think its at conway all the clues fit

Mon, 02/01/1999 - 2:37 AM Permalink
Allison Wonderland

Possibly, that's all its saying. I believe that's what the first two lines are definitely saying. I do think the word iconoclast may be too strong to be saying just that. If

that's not what its saying, then I think its saying that the medallion is hidden in some unusual way, which would explain why it hasn't been found yet.
