Como Park Mostly Missing Winter Carnival It's been a trend over the past few years, but very noticeable this year: with exception of the yearly Conservatory Orchid Show, the two-day MSF Broomball State Championships, and a one-day kite flying contest, our neighborhood and park will see no major Winter Carnival activities this year. The Saint Paul Winter Carnival runs January 28 - February 6.
The news said something about how there was a wedding hosted there saturday night, and she came with a bunch of other handicapped people in a van, but the police hadnt figured out how she was left behind yet, or how she happened to fall out of her motorized chair either...    It just makes me so mad, hearing about stuff like that..... i dont know what I'd do if it was someone that I knew or something..Â
Think of how the idiots feel that were responsible for her. You'd think there's be a roll call at some point. If not in the van then back at home base. Sheesh!
I so hope its not in CoNo this year- I would think of that poor woman. Can you imagine now: the wedding couple having the memory of a woman passing away right outside the conservatory as they married :(
On channel 5 they made it sound like it was just an accident - the woman went to the wrong doors and took a short cut through the snow to get to the right doors and fell off her scooter. Very tragic.
lol yeah, whatever park the medallion is in, I'll be in the park that's furthest from that spot... lol like Phalen last year, spent an entire weekend on the wrong side of the lake.
My phone will be on during the hunt...you can have both numbers...
Matter of fact... for those who want to swap cell numbers I can password protect a phone number page on the coolertimes. Tell me if you want me to lock and post it for crew members only.
That phone list sounds like a good idea actually because during the hunt people are rarely online at the same time. Just make sure Jake doesn't get the password!
The alternative to the message saying it's been found is the message saying it's still out there. So if they haven't changed the message yet, then maybe it's not out there yet. And considering how the weather has been lately, it probably isn't out there yet.
They're saying only 1" of snow tonight, 1 to 3 inches tomorrow. But it might warm up after the hunt starts so you can't be sure that snow will stay. Maybe this will be a Merriam sort of year.
I was down at Beaver lake getting the '64 coordinates tonight. Saw a family playing around the lakefront, and no car in the parking lot. Hmmmmm....
Also saw a deer in the field where I was going to get the coordinates at, decided to leave and return later to confirm the coords, but I certainly had an interesting time looking around. Dunno, maybe this year it'll be there.....

Aww.. poor, poor, sad, sad Como Park. I feel for it....
Really... I do.
Don't curse us Nick...
I really don't want to see Como in the winter (except for Vulc coming out) for a looooog ass time.
Ya'll hear about the handicapped lady they found out there, outside the conservatory???... that just sucks ass...
Yeah, that was the saddest story I have heard in a long time, just a shame

What? I didn't hear this. What happened to her?
Found her dead by the conseratory according to Twincities.com
Froze to death? Thats awful!!! Thats definitely a lawsuit.
Some one needs to go to jail for that=(
Whoa....new avatar ESD, scared me!
Jake was just on the soucheray show
Old avatar just got sick of the other one.
That's cooler! If anyone can pimp the movie it's definitely Jake
must find a radio.....
Â
THX says it's over already
He said he didn't know the name or where it was showing, some guy named mike called in after with all the info.
I so hope its not in CoNo this year- I would think of that poor woman. Can you imagine now: the wedding couple having the memory of a woman passing away right outside the conservatory as they married :(
Thats one of the most disturbing stories I've heard in a long time. I hope they find who is responsible...or should I say irresponsible.
On channel 5 they made it sound like it was just an accident - the woman went to the wrong doors and took a short cut through the snow to get to the right doors and fell off her scooter. Very tragic.
Scary to think how a place sometimes covered with people can also be so quiet and vacant when you most need someone around.
I know. If it would have happened during the hunt, someone probably would have been near the frog pond and seen her. It is horrible.
They also reported that she took a cab to Como to attend a wedding. She wasn't with a group.
Damn that sucks... It's also sad to see someone just trying to do things on their own getting getting hurt in the process.
Speaking of cold.....Crew make sure you have your phones with you. If you get hurt during the hunt be ready to call and tell us where you are.
I don't have any issue with any of you getting my phone number and calling if you have problems.
You can egram me for it if you want it.
good Idea...!!! thanks for the offer!!!
Â
don't own one of those infernal devices myself. I'll have my HT radio on me though, I can hit any of the local repeaters and call for help.
KC0GRN, I'm sure we'll know where you are anyways :)
OTS your ringer is always off...you should give them my number.
lol yeah, whatever park the medallion is in, I'll be in the park that's furthest from that spot... lol like Phalen last year, spent an entire weekend on the wrong side of the lake.

No cell here... yet.  I had one, but thats long gone....
I am rarely alone in a park in January. Now July is another story!

Finally - A real Joe!
Hunt Status Hotline: (651)228-5547
Still found. :-(
We can lock it up and change the pass word from time to time. No need to poat it, we can just egram those who are on the list.

Or maybe they're waiting for tonight during the snow
They're saying only 1" of snow tonight, 1 to 3 inches tomorrow. But it might warm up after the hunt starts so you can't be sure that snow will stay. Maybe this will be a Merriam sort of year.
Lets hope not. Or at least hide it in something more earth toned
I don't know, the pringles top is often found in nature...
