Discuss the 2005 Pioneer Press Treasure Hunt here.
Downtown Dave
Does anybody have an digital camera advice for someone who has never had one? I'm looking to spend, oh, say $300, give or take 50. I need something really easy to operate.
Dave, my parents just bought one (and all they want to do is push a button). The took Consumer Reports' recommendation and bought a Kodak EasyShare. They have different models. Make sure you get one that has at least 3.3MP and has red-eye along with the flash.
Others on this board will have lots of opinions on this topic.
I bought my son the Kodak Easy Share for Christmas. I bought the mid-priced one. I think they have three models. I liked the dock option for printing out pictures. Kind of wish I had that one myself.

I'd second the reccomendation on an olympus. I've owned one for 3 or 4 years and it's been the best camera I've ever had. Even dropped the thing a few times and it still works. Course I heard Fujis are pretty good. Just stay with a good brand and you should do okay.

I bought a Nikon Cool Pix 5200 for my birthday a few months ago - it's the 5.1 version and more that what you are looking to spend - but the 4.1 is right in that price range. Its got all the same features - and is easy to operate - the batteries last for ever, it takes excellent video with sound.  Plus it's small for coat pockets etc. - LOVE IT!
I don't know why, but there is a certain part of me that doesn't think they are doing this to help us. I guess that I have built up a fair amount of cynicism after the last couple years. What info could they possibly share that would help? I guess that they could give us some ideas about the shape of the medallion and when they hide it. Beyond that I just wonder what sorts of knowledge they would throw out there. Am I way off here? I would appreciate some discussion on why they are doing this. As the timing seems suspect(two years of hunts that have gone down to the last clue)
my guess is the cluewriters answers to any questions THEY choose are going to be about as cryptic as the clues themselves. Art's probably right, we're probably not going to learn much of anything.
There is just a point where enough is enough!!! If you want to be on these boards for the fun and love of the hunt, and the friends made here then everyone is welcome. There is no point coming in here starting trouble. It is pathetic.
The puck is hidden around the time of the first clue.(no doubt in my mind) When Kathy found it at Como, There had been rain 2 days prior to the hunt and 5 inch snow fall on day 2 of hunt. She did not see foot prints in the snowat the site so it could not of been hidden after day 2. The soap box it was in was not wet or show any water damage so it could not of been hidden more than 2 days befor the hunt. Â
Hi map guy. I did, tried to keep it pretty civil. I wonder if they would answer question's about the clue writer? ie how old, male or female, do they like war history, classical music, etc
The Soucheray article struck a chord with me with the obscure reference to McQuillan Park. I looked at that park in detail a few weeks ago and decided to include the verbage from its historical marker in this edition of the THG. Quite coincidental?
I'll bring some with me KCO. Don't drink all the barley juice before I get there. I've got a mite hockey game to attend, so I won't be able to roll in until about 9:00.
lol Map Guy, I'll be lucky if I get there by 9 myself. Thanks for bringing some, I've been itching to get over to that book store, but was hoping to buy the books from the people who wrote em.
This is gonna be fun kickoff to the hunt this year....lots going on with the movie, the old med being auctioned, the skating party the PP is throwing on Sunday at the Landmark rink....and the Predig will be bigger than ever.Â
With all of this up front, the days that follow may be anti-climactic.
I not sure that I'll make it to the predig. My mailbox at cluewriter@pioneerpress.comis rather full and they want all the answers by Sunday. Deadlines you know! j/k
I have often wondered about that too. But like last year, there was all that snow that came 2/3rds of the way thru the hunt which could have easily led to it not being found at all. Of course being hidden in a donut didnt help.Â
I gotta ponder a good question to ask now. Wheres my headwrap and vapo inhaler
Dave....I also agree with the Kodak suggestion. I got a Kodak DX3600 about 3 years ago and I LOVED it. The dock was so easy to use and upload pictures to my computer. Of course they don't make that model anymore, and I don't use it anymore because I bought a Canon Digital Rebel last year that set me back about a grand, but I highly recommend Kodak for first time buyers.
As far as the clue writer questions go, I think it's to set us up. They want us to think they're helping us, but really they're not. They can't give us any information that'd REALLY help us, and I bet $10 that the answers to our questions are vague at best, if they even do answer them at all. I think all the questions that have been posted here are good, though.
I'm glad I don't have it on, it irritated me so bad when he called in on Monday. Just leave the man alone for christ's sake, Jake, seriously. Like he's going to bust down and tell him where it's hidden...he's probably going to bust down and put out a restraining order against him if anything.

I'd pose that question to CM when he comes in. He knows a lot about cameras.
BTW, low carb wraps make an excelent pizza crust. Just add 2 spoons of sauce, peperoni and cheese. Low carb delight.
Nothin to do with the hunt, but it is a waste of bandwith.

We own two Fuji's and like them.
One for myself I bought a few years ago:

The one we got for our daughter was only like $150.

cameras have gotten cheap. Make sure you shop around. You can get a lot for $300 now days.

or is it "strategically" placed at some point during the hunt?
To prevent critters from carrying it away!
Stupid Poo Poo Head!

Shovelhead!
Hmm, what would be some good questions to ask? How about:
Are you guys idiots or what?
Did it ever occur to you that an animal of some sort might want to eat a donut found in the snow, whether there's a medallion inside or not?
When do you hide the medallion?
Will the clues be halfway decent this year?
Are you guys idiots or what?
:-)

Joe!
Dear Clue Writers -
What is your favorite snack?Â
(so I know what kind of litter they may leave behind with something inside) aka the donut and the pringles lid.
Â
I asked how high up the medallon could be? could it be in a tree over your head but not so high you would have to climb for it?
I also asked if the clue writter likes $100 bills(Hint hint)

I was tricked last year with the dancing girls...
Hi big G ,where do you think it will be this year. I want to look 10 feet east of where you think it is.
So....who here has submitted a question to the ClueWriter?
I haven't yet, trying to see where on the twincities.com site I can send em (I'm not sure I like the cluewriter(s) having access to my email addy)
I wouldn't worry about that KCO. I'm curious how much they'll divulge. The mystery is part of the fun.

Perhaps Joe got a hold of your guide?
BTW, lookin forward to getting one of those at the Predig.

I missed Jake's call on Monday. Was he rascally with Joe? Did anyone call in after him and press Joe for details?
lol Map Guy, I'll be lucky if I get there by 9 myself. Thanks for bringing some, I've been itching to get over to that book store, but was hoping to buy the books from the people who wrote em.
I'm showin' my face around 9ish....heck...fashionably late if you ask me...

I knew it all along...sly dog.
Check your car for tracking devices, MedHunter.
No tracking devices, but found Jake hanging on the bumper.
Thats a new tagline, it's funny because I could see it happening.
Was he missing his gloves? I found a pair on my bumper yesterday. He must have lost his grip.
CM -how many times did you back up over him??

What a hak he is triing to get joe to tell him where he would hide it if he wrote the clues.
