I have plenty of boxes in all sizes. Just got more today thinking that they were better than the other 30 I already have. 40 all together now of various sizes.
I actually hung out with him last night. He's a comedian and he's in town this week at Acme Comedy Company. My partner in running the singles club (Vikki, some of you met her at the scavenger hunt) has a big crush on him so she made us stay after the show. The comedians usually hang out in the bar after the show and after about an hour the place was pretty well cleared out except for us and the comedians so we sat there talking with him for a while (well, I was talking, she was flirting). He's a pretty funny guy. If you don't have anything going on tonight or tomorrow, I'd recommend going to Acme to see him.
You guys are sooo sweet - I just got access and am reading everything, it's making me cry. I am really touched that you all want to help him so much! VERY COOLER!
CM - YES! he does drink! But you can't send alcohol over there, and be careful if you send any porn mags - perhaps slip a better homes and garden cover over the top.
When My X was stationed in Afganistan - they weren't allowed those things in. Costco Gummy Bears were a huge hit.
Sorry Guys, I am trying to catch up - but did any of you get anything written for a 'donation' letter to solicit stuff for them?
I have a bunch of templates as I do this stuff every fricken day.
Somewhere to hit up - all the walmarts in your areas - see here is the deal, because they are the 'big guys' and actually not always wanted in their community - each store is given a monthly budget to spend on donations etc... by not asking for it - it's like walking away from free money.
I write each of the 2 stores in my town every month, and we get $100 gift cards per store every month to spend on underprivledged kids...
a $100 bucks per stores buys lots of batteries / dvds.. etc.
l4v, when tc and i sent stuff to pearson's for the donation, she wrote up a little blurb for it and i pasted in the contents of the statement of purpose from the coolercrew.com web site, to make it official sounding.
I am speechless - completely in awe over what you guys have done for Zephy. Amazing. When I posted during Redbear's hunt that I knew of a guy who posted on the PP who was over there, and was looking to send him some maps etc.. I never imagined the response would be this huge.
You are all truly amazing - every one of you should be proud of yourselves. WOW!!!! I just can't say enough. I love the cut out - that is Soooo funny.
I have a like 50 small boxes of chocolates I am sending, some pens / pencils and I was thinking about sending some of those posters you color.. figure it would give them something to do.
My wife and I will be going, but want to know for sure if I have the right place. I looked up McGovern's on Yahoo and found a map which places it close to the old St. Paul Civic Center (Excel Center now?) on west 7th street. I think I can find it using the map, but if that is not correct, please tell me where it is and how to get there from highway 52.
We will also bring Zephy's mother along so she can meet you good people. She will bring the original 1954 treasure chest (that is what they searched for back then) and wants to know if you want to see the original papers that were signed by some bigwig at the pioneer press and newspaper clippings and such. I suppose since this is like the holy grail for you folks that you may want to see the papers as well, but let me know if that is too much. She is willing to bring whatever you wish to see.
More good news - Zephy's wife found a sitter and will go also.Â
We will all ride together and should arrive around 7:00 P.M. or so. When we get there, how do we find you? Someone mentioned earlier that it is downstairs. I can always ask the bartender where you are I guess.
One last thing, Zephy told me that they are extremely busy right now. Out of 14 people, only 2 or 3 work where he is and the rest have to guard things during the lead up to the elections in Iraq. So any of you who are writing to him, please be patient and understanding while you are waiting for a response.
Grandpa Dan- you are correct it is on West 7th St near the Xcel center (what used be the Civic Center). You shouldn't have a problem finding it at all.
Once you get there you can just ask how to get into the basement or just walk through the bar (from the main entrance) and take a left and the stairs will be on your left (somebody tell me if I'm wrong here). Once you're in the basement you'll be in the right place, just introduce yourself and make yourself comfortable, we'll be looking for you guys.
Very cool that you are able to make it, it'll be nice to meet you and your family. I'd bring all the stuff that you are comfortable bringing, I am sure we will appreciate it.
Thank you so much. I am so happy that Zeph's wife is able to join us. When I spoke to her last week I know she was a little put back. I am sure it helps that family will be there with her. I am so excited....this is going to be a GREAT predig!!
I have a lot of issues, but I doubt that you are interested in them. :~) I do have the pubs number if I get lost on the way, but I have been to the Civic Center/Xcel many times and I think I can find it from there. I just wanted to be sure I have the right place and the right address. It would really suck to go all that way and be in the wrong spot.
I think the real issue is the time it may take for the package to get there. Most Packages going to APO's first goto New York. Then they get routed to Europe (you can see where this is going). This isn't going to get there in a weeks time.
Yeah the priority shipping will get the package to the port in New York quicker but after that we still have to wait on the military shipping and mail system.
I'm sure some stuff will be ok outside. Just making sure someone is picking this stuff up from the bar. Don't want to collect everthing and then we leave it there.
give me a break...I had a few beers.....
ummm....no 'xcuse
Kitch... what are you doing outta the dog house?

I thought Kitch quit drinking?

Can't wait to meet you all,

Grandpa Dan,
If you want I can egram my wifes cell number to you.
You can call us if you have any issues.
Got three different types of cookies baked today for Zeph, damn the house smells good.
I have a lot of issues, but I doubt that you are interested in them. :~) I do have the pubs number if I get lost on the way, but I have been to the Civic Center/Xcel many times and I think I can find it from there. Question about parking, where and how much money?
I've been told don't send it because they will just throw it out.
Bummer. That was a good idea too. Bring them on Saturday for the Crew than.

mucky .....well....If you can't ship the cookies.....I know a few boys in that house that will eat them right up...
Cookies :)
Isuppose since this is like the holy grail for you folks that you may want to see the papers as well
absolutly! Bring everything!
Â
OTS-your taking everything home from the PDG aren't you? Or somebody? We don't want things frozen by being left in a car overnight.
Pay me and I have a hotel room nearby... so we can run the boxes upstairs to the room as time passes. We'll take them home in the morning.

Well we will have our van parked in valet land somewhere so if people wanna help move the stuff to our room it will be ok.
You have a hotel room!!! Lucky dog! We are trying to decide who is gonna stay sober to drive home :)
PARTY AT OTS AND PAY ME'S!
HA HA HA....
We got the room specifically so we didn't have to figure that out.
I wonder if we can get as many people in OTS's and Payme's room as we can in THX's shed?
Ok, What do I do? I choose cookies cause that's what I do reallygood, homebaked goodies were on one of the lists.Â
But Lisa and Amy's Mommy is saying no not to send them.
They are vacume sealed in foodsaver bags. They should keep several weeks. Do we send them or not??
I would :)
If you want to take a shot.... go for it...
I know LFV sends candy and stuff, I would think the cookies would be ok too.
Why wouldn't you send cookies?
they should be fine. I like old cookies.
Lisa n Amy's mommy had said she heard soldiers have been advised to throw out any home cooked food because of spoilage and other issues.
[Edited by on Jan 21, 2005 at 05:54am.]
Well, I'll bring them, we can sent them, and hope they arrive in good conditon.Â
cookies may not be considered home cooked foods. Or are they? Maybe just put a "use by " date in with them? Or 'born on date"
I like the born on date :)
We're talking about US soldiers here... send them :)... The'll love it regardless!
you could save a bag........I could "go to bat" and sample a cookie a day until zeph says he got them.....
then I'll tell zeph if they are bad or not........
Â
Â
only if your riding in the back of a hot truck in the desert everyday will that work.
:(
Â
don't wanna go that far eh?
not really....when I was 18 I would have.
