BTW. I want to know which of MY implements are in the movie. It's been pointed out that there is a long handled shovel (far right) in the movie also, but it is not mine.

Trying to answer some questions:

Oak Street holds 300.  I wouldn't worry about it selliing out.  I hear what you say about word-of-mouth spreading, but the turnout this weekend was pathetic.  It exceeded all of our worst-case scenario projections, and Jackie and I took a financial hit this weekend that we can't afford to take.  We really appreciate everyone that showed, but there's a long list of people who are in the film who 1) didn't show up, or 2) who showed up only by themselves.  The Camo Crue brought a ton of people, Allison brought a decent number of people.  There are four people in particular who have significant roles in the film who managed to only get one other person to the screenings.  I'll stop here before I start getting crazy...

But thanks to those of you who did show up and who are spreading the word.

Unfortunately I just can't go out and pick people up off the street.

I've put flyers in each mailbox here at work.  I've told my teacher at school and have hand-outs to give out to the class tonight (I missed last week because I was sick).  I've talked it up with the people I work with...  Several people have mentioned to me about WCCO and NPR.  I plan on attending again with one to three others.

But...  I just can't force people to go.

CM, those are different shots of the Pioneer Press sign.  We only have 500 shots of that, so we'll throw in some that are dramatically different.  Thanks for the observation.

Allison, thanks for the suggestions -- most of them were already on our list.  Jackie's already starting making them this morning. The Deb-vulture issue was part of last-minute editing where we made a big change to cut down the film and forgot to cut a clip where she says vultures twice.  These things happen.

Camo Crue as spotters.  We have a lot more material on this.  A lot of people believe this.  You've heard me say it because I've heard so many other people say it (non-Coolerheads), so I then ask other hunters about it.  We'll go into greater detail on this later (probably on the DVD).  It's not superfluous at all--maybe it felt that way because we didn't unload the guns we have on this.

When we showed up in 2001, only a handful of Coolerheads even knew who the Camo Crue was, and even those who knew them didn't know much.  If you slog every post on the Water Cooler from 1998 through 2000, there's not a single mention of the Camo Crue.  I only knew about the Camo Crue because Camo Dan wrote a blurb on Med Hunter's discussion thread (when he had a place where hunters could post), and I was intrigued by it and was lucky enough to run into Dan at Marydale in 2001.

Re: More people noodling, lining things up.  Yes, that would be great to show.  The problem  with this is that 99% of the noodles are completely wrong or are impossible to follow.  The lining up stuff -- we'd love to show more of that, but our cameras caught very little of that.  We wish we had more of it, but we don't.  In 2001, you heard the extent of lining up that most people told us: trolly car, shelter, fire rings.  2002 wasn't a hunt, and 2003 there was a lot of lining up, but it was in the wrong park.  In 2004 everyone was incredibly gun-shy, so there wasn't much early digging, and it really was a boring hunt (except for the end and the aftermath, which we show).  We cut out the 2004 press conference because it made the PP look really bad, and we didn't want to do that.

What we have a lot of is this (and it's meant to be light and humorous -- not frustrated and angry as sometimes it's easy to misunderstand the tone of a web posting), and it dictated what we could and couldn't show:

"Where's Steve?  It's Clue 9 and everyone's digging."  "Oh, it's his son's birthday party, so he's not here tonight."  "Oh, his son's party is going until 11:30p.m."  "Where's Allison?"  "He has a headache, so I don't think he's going to show up."  "Oh great, so two of our main characters aren't here on a key night."  "Jake, what do you think?"  Jake: "Oh, I don't know anything unless Steve tells me to think something."  "Is Green digging?"  Oh, I forgot: she doesn't own a digging tool.  Where's the rest of the Cooler Crew?  Of course, Greg Sax, Wright Winger, Terry/Inks and New Daddy are there and digging.

Before the 2002 hunt I went out and bought two lanterns and a headlight so the hunters we were following would have better light.  I'll stop that story there because it's a DVD extra.

Most of the filming is just a comedy of errors:  DDY sleeping, Camo Crue in the wrong park all four years, Allison getting it wrong in 2001, 2003 and 2004.  No one wanting to get out of their cars because it was too cold, not as many people down at the PP waiting in line because of the Ice Palace and the Rockin' Lobster.  In the early days, very few Cooler Crew showed up at the PP (just Downtown Dave).

As a filmmaker, you have to balance what's actually happening with what's watchable with what's humorous and dramatic.  You also have to give the viewer info so they will understand what they're watching.  We're trying to find that balance.  We have a lot of material... it's just a matter of getting the "right" material on screen.

It looks easy -- it's not.  These screenings are helpful.

I'm pretty sure, and someone can correct this if I am wrong, but I think 2001 was the first year they delayed posting the clue online a half an hour so more people would start going down to the paper. But even for the first clues we just let DD get the clue for us, thanks Dave!

Well, what can I say? I liked the movie and those were about the only criticisms I could think to come up with.

Allison, as you know, we always appreciate your comments, and what I was saying is that, "Yes, your list very much matches ours -- ours is much longer: we're very critical of our own work."

What I forgot to write, Allison, is that "Occam's Razor" is not in the film (as you probably noticed).  We're going to try to get that back in because it's just too good not to be there.  We also have a couple of other good Allison quotes that we just don't know where to fit in.

Jackie and I are right now discussing whether to take you out of the "What I'd Do with the Money."  We've discussed it many times before, and what we came up with is that it would be really funny if the guy who seems so smart in the film is actually unemployed.  No one laughed at the line in the three screenings that I saw, so it might not be working on that level.  I hear what you're saying about it perhaps being inconsistent with the character that we're presenting.  We're still thinking about it.  I think ultimately we'll test that with a NYC audience before making a final decision on it.

We also haven't gotten in Med Hunter's "Gonkulator."  I heard that Med Hunter and Tim might be doing some more work on that.  And there's reallly nothing in the film about all of the websites dedicated to the hunt.

well first off I thought the first showing would be packed! I thought bringing bodies to a later showing would be better for everyone all around- I was wrong.

I knew I would get in;) but I wanted to focus on the movie and not trying to entertain my friends or family while I enjoy it. If you knew me you would know that when I have a party at my house I don't get to enjoy the party cause I am sooo busy making sure everyone else is having a good time. I wanted a stress free day that I sooooo looked forward to (sorry I was selfish that day). I knew I would see it more than once and would bring friends to a lesser crowded showing. Unbenounced to me there were plenty of seats and I wasn't feeling closed in afterall.

I told my mom I didn't want her to go where I get closterpobic and have to help her cause of her handicapp. She was gonna come at a later showing in Feb. My husband being out of town was a bummer and his mom just had heart surgery a little over a week ago -so she and my father in law headed up North for her to be taken care of.

My sister was the babysitter on Saturday-she will come probly to a Feb. show.
I don't have many friends out side of the Cooler.
I kinda dropped contact with some of them when I got addicted to you guys! lol

I will get DaMacMan to go and a couple others.

Trent, I personally meant no disrespect by coming by myself -
actually Clue Master was my (late) date. :)

I'm aiming to bring another group to the Oak Street showing. I'm not sure how many yet, but it could be a sizable group. I can't seem to get my family all that interested in going. I'm going to bring it up at my Mason meeting and see if I can get them to this Saturday. And I think a lot of hunters who weren't in the movie are going to be getting reminded of it all week.

I plan on showing up with the fam this weekend too for the same reasons my date gave.  I've done more than my part to continually pimp this movie over the past few years.  I really hope the thing succeeds on the national level.  It deserves to IMHO.  But one thing to realize with a successful seasonal film is that you'll always have a steady form of income.  Either with the DVD or the thought of an annual showing during the hunt each year.  Like our famous Mr. Mappy only you won't have to update your movie each year.  I don't think there would be any problem in finding a local station to buy it for airing during the carnival either.  Plus you'd think that the PP would give free ad space since they are shown in a good light.

Thanks for getting back to us on some of our critiques.  It was a smart move to try some of the the risky stuff first to see the reaction.

I'd printed out 50 of the ads I made up because I couldn't change the PDF one. And my teacher was gracious enuff to talk a bit about the movie, and then asked me to.  (He knew I was AP, but didn't know I was a major player...)  And then he handed out to each student one o'the flyers. And talked a bit more. Nothing big.

One person asked me if it was the movie  she'd read about in the enema newspaper; and the guy that sits next to me said he'd seen people (us?) talking about it on line.  One person wanted to review it, like I did, but it was explained - by me - about the film festivals coming up this spring so nobuddy would be reviewing it so we'd have nothing to compare to (professional critic vs. us guys learning).

And I put a flyer up on an 'open' bulletin board.

Don't know if this will help, but ittiz better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick.

Oh.  When we do films in class, the teacher wants me (me!) to xplain what an AP is/what they "really do."!!!! Hoo-boy!

I think they could shave off the part about the medallionators. I don't think a national audience would really care that jake formed his own group.
