So apparently this isn't really a "secret thread" if we ask to admit people in an open thread.

Well it's supposed to be, but some people keep mentioning it in the open thread.

Yup, Lil'Slim.  Still, Nash, and Young.

But *no* Crosby.

No Crosby, so then what does the rest mean?

And it definately says "Go To Where..."  So, we gotta go where the dove and eagle fly.  And where's that?  That's what I'm noodling.

Dove/Eagle...  Beginner/Advanced skiers?  Still noodling...

But again, "No Crosby."

I did a search @ Amazon, and every single album with that song on it was a CSNY album.

"Pig's Eye Lake is an undeveloped 1159 acre natural area surrounded by river industry. It contains one of the largest heron and egret rookeries in a metropolitan area in the upper midwest. Recently eagles have established nests there and some of them winter there. The peninsula where the rookery is, is protected by the Department of Natural Resources as a Scientific and Natural Area. The area provides spectacular bird watching. The herons and egrets return to St. Paul around St. Patrick's Day, March l7. Best bird watching is on the south side of the Mississippi River from the bluffs in South St. Paul."

That's the "pond below."

But if one wants to get technical, it is just STILLS. see the track list here...

I don't disagree.

Question is, does the clue writer know that?

Because one could read it as we're supposed to exclude Crosby because it's a Stills song...

but its down beyond the once blue pond, not the pond beyond

Morning all,
Gotta take Lina to work, then I'll swing out to Crosby.

Really makes not a lot of difference at this point if we think it is Crosby or BC. At clue 10 or so it will be spelled out quite clearly. Right now it is more about having a park to gather at, since there is not enough info given for either park to really narrow it down to a searchable area. It is still just a huge lottery ticket, no matter which park you're in because both are huge.

I mean, I think it is quite clearly Crosby. It would be to coincidental to have Stills Nash and Young in the same clue that you have song lyrics from a song they sung. Just to darn coincidental. And I've never heard of the cluewriter going out of the way in one clue to say "It's not in this park".

I'm still skeptical that it's in Crosby. I really think all of the music references are telling us what it's in -- a CD Jewel Case! I'm leaning toward Acorn Park in Roseville or Como. I don't buy the ideas about Shamrock.

I fly radio control model planes with eagles and falcons at Mounds Park.  Pidegons (doves) are present as well, but not soaring.  The cliffs overlooking the river and airport have excellent updrafts so we can fly unpowered gliders there for hours with a south wind.  Other flyers in the club I'm in have been written up in the PP when flying here.  (The new plaque on a bench to Mark Johnson commemerates a fellow flier)

There is a shelter and playgorund equipment - helter skelter slide.  I believe that there is a fire/grill area there as well.  Hiking trails, an emergency siren, railroad tracks to hear.

The warning regarding cliffs made me think of this park back in clue #3.

Burns would be the poet here.

Carver's cave once contained a "lake" of it's own - pond?

Just a noodle, but thought I'd give the cc a bit of park usage you might not know about.

Hey Green,
A few years back I tried to get down to Pig's Eye Lake, just to scope it out cause I thought it could be there.

It was impossible. All roads into the place were surrounded by rairoad cars and industry. It was pretty amusing though, trying to get myself in there.

Not that you're saying you think it's there, I understand. But it was just pretty weird.

OK, gotta go, Lina's yelling at me.

I've kayaked to Pige's Eye Lake, from the river.  I couldn't find a way there by land either.

THX--that's kind of how I read it, actually.

I realize that we would all be irritated if we are on clue 6, and all we have is "it is not in Crosby Park".  This would mean, of course, that half the clues are wasted.

It is either in Crosby Park--very possible to give that one away early--we've all been down there now, and we all agree (I think) that the place is large enough to survive a 12 clue hunt even if the hordes arrive Saturday.  OR--we are missing some very important items in clues 1-6 that are telling us which park it is in, and the Crosby thing is just a red herring.

My hope is that if it isn't Crosby, there is some very clever thing we've missed that tells us early on that it is in Battle Creek, whatever.

As for the idea that they wouldn't hide it in Crosby, I don't buy that.  It is just as good as any other spot.

grn_i_grl

yeah I agree, seems a little odd for them to go to such lengths to say "Not at this park".   However, is it not also just a bit strange that they would use 3 clues to tell us Crosby?  Clues 2, 4 & 6.

Well thanks to living up here in the Northwoods we have no high speed internet and since I need the phone I have to log off for awhile.  Catch you all in a bit.

So I find it curious why the picked the lyrics to a Steven Stills solo song instead of a CSN&Y song.  Did they intentionaly pick it to highlight Stills (Stillwater?) or is there something in the lyrics they want to highlight?  Maybe the Eagle and the Dove?  Maybe the Glove with the Rose or however the lyrics go?  Maybe I'm just overthinking this clue totaly?

Yeah, you have to look at it this way when it comes to Crosy. There are three possibilities:

1- It IS in Crosby, and that's where these clues lead us.

2- It ISN'T in Crosby, and it's just coincidence that these clues ALL have Crosby refferencees. In other words, it's an accident

3- It ISN'T in Crosby, and the clue-writer has spent six clues telling us that.

If you think the clues lead to BC, or any other park except perhaps HF, then you have to believe #2, that the clues lead to another park and just by chance there are all these Crosby refferences. OR I guess you could say the clue-writer is leading us on a wild goose chase. But I don't believe so. That's not the spirit of the hunt.

'cross' country skis.  the big X where the two paths cross by the far small shelter

'the the trail through the trees' - just past the small shelter is that huge (giant) tree fallen and cut and you gottsa walk thru it if you stay on the path

soon after that along the path on the left there are three huge trees in a line - '3 T's' - could be a stretch but heh might as well try!

Good morning all!

After 4 hours of sleep on clue 5, I spent the day tending to my other life, hit the sheets at 9 PM last night and 12 hours later I feel great!  Noodled clue 6 before read back ove 600+ posts.

I feel that it is in Crosby the clues are too clear.  Starting at the shelter with fire pit follow one of the several CC ski trails to a fallen tree to find a glove witha rosecolored puck in it.

Ok I know only 6.7 miles of trails in 600 acres of woods......NO PROBLEM!

"cross"- Going with CSNY songs we could go with Southern Cross.  Lichen seems to hint North.

So. . .Southern x-country trail within a Northern hiking area of a park?  Battle Creekers - could be describing an area in the Maplewood part of BC.

You better do a little research. It has definitely been in Roseville. It's even been in Acorn Park before. Do a little research before getting onto this forum and you'll know that Acorn is a part of Ramsey County.

I know that Maplewood has made a stink about the hunt being in one of their parks and I'm not suggesting it is this year. Acorn is in Roseville and Roseville is not Maplewood.

Do a little research!! Then you won't feel the need to get on here and argue with people who ARE willing to do some research. Also, do you really think people are going to refrain from digging in a particular park because *you* don't think it's going to be there?

as far as the clue goes, i think the last line is just the Stills part of the clue. Young and Nash got much more clear references, Stills is a just bit more obscure.

Morning all- I can tell you that it is NOT anywhere near the firepit at Crosby. I know this because I've spent the last 2 nights there until at least 2 AM tending the fire. I will go there again today, to tend the fire, and I will double check for it, in case someone found it and stopped by the fire to warm up, and forgot it there.

Don't let the park intimidate you. It's only about 500 acres of woods & 6.7 miles of trails thru them.

Feel free to stop by the fire & warm yer cold spots.

It's from the old WB cartoons, with the coyote and the Sheepdog.  Every morning, they'd punch the time clock, and say, "Morning Sam, Morning Ralph".  They would be adversaries all day, until it was time to punch out, (the coyote would try to steal the sheep, the sheep dog would thwart him every time), and the would once again exchange greetings.

Ares and THX used to use that greeting here in the cooler here in the off season, when things were very very slow. Others started as well.
