Regarding those liferafts...

Don't you'all see?! This is the cluewriter's way of rewarding those who were in the park earlier than clue 8, 9 10.

And it doesn't matter so much anyways. There were dozens of people digging by us last night just because they saw a crowd of people and figured the crowd knew better than them, so they came over and started turning snow.

The fact that the liferafts have moved will make no difference really. Other than to throw off a few of those folks who joined the hunt the night of clue 12.

See you out there in an hour or so,
Let's make right and move some snow!

Any reports.

I was there on Sunday... many areas are very dug up, especially around trees. But it's a big park and there are thousands of trees, stumps, large branches and logs to look around.

Marnin', 'Heads!

About the life perservers???  Are there any on the back o'the boats?  Like you can see from that path?  LLady, remember us looking at the boats?

Well, those boats aren't gonna be moved any time soon...  The life perserver(s) would still be where they were when the Clue Writer wrote the Clues.

I can't see Ma Press and The 'Writer being TOTALLY stupid again this year, not after last year's green do-nut...  I don't think they'd use the raft thighys when they know sumbuddy would move them...

Enkneebuddy check out the back o'the boats??????????

Bock to slogging.

Plus, they're talking about the "parking lot," not the turn around...  And the trail leads past the boats through woods and weeds...

Maybe?

it's always a "maybe" with these clues, green!!

Thanks, Malley...  But in looking at the map, there's a parking lot down by the turn around.
<sigh>

I think the others are righter.  But to use an object that can/could be moved...  Didn't we go through that *last* year?!  Jeez-Laweez!

Enkneebuddy know Steve Bush?

"Well if you have been reading my posts everyday you will know that yesterday we gave two scenarios for clue #9. You may now rule out the second scenario and go with the first. This one starts you at the parking loop takes you on the trail to Upper Lake. At the T in the trail you will turn right. I believe this is where you will see the #2 sign if my memory serves me correct. As you continue on the path it will curve a round the lake to the left and you should come to the #3 sign. These signs are mile markers in tenths of miles. You recall I talked about the likelihood of these markers being used way back in clue #5 and what ya know there you have it. Now the puzzling thing to those of us that have been in the park from the early stages, and many of you have since you are an avid reader of Medallion Central, know that the yellow life saving board or boards have been moving around the park. I can without a doubt tell you that on the 4th day the yellow board was close to the mile marker sign #3 and there was no life saving board near the sitting shelter further up the path. However, by Sunday the yellow life saving board had been moved and now appeared further up the path next to the sitting shelter. Hmmmm. Now don’t you wish you could have that Q & A session with the clue writer over again to ask how it is possible that one of our only clue markers is now making it’s way around the park? Perhaps there is more than one. If that is the case you will see a couple of them as you make your way on that trail. Between the #3 sign and the sitting shelter there are several interesting trees to choose from. Also there is the one just past the sitting shelter, which is now, hmmm, close to the life saving board. This has definitely been narrowed down, and I do believe there is a distinct possibility of it being found today. Happy Hunting!"

Randy, no.  T'would have been fun to keep KT company at the fire, but 'real life' has intruded.  Also, I've a healthy respect for parks at night with crazed Hunters after the past two years and the 12th Clues.  I'm not anxious to head into parks at night getting on this late in the game.

I finally came around to Crosby with Sunday's Clue.  I'm hoping to have the guts to play hooky the next two days...  Actually, I don't feel all that chipper and prolly really SHOULD stay home 'sick'!  :D

I just hope and PRAY a 'Head finds it.  PLEASE!!!  A true (vs. Lurker) 'Head's never found The Med...

Good luck Kogren, and all the rest o'you guys out there today and have been diligently hunting!  COOLERHEADS PREVAIL!

I think that the life rafts disappearing in a strane occurrence. Much like Canadian bacon in a breakfast shake, it doesn't sit well with me. The area they told us to find the magical tree has tons of trees. I was thinking that magical tree could be a reference to the Womping Willow from the Harry Potter books. Yes, that's right I said Harry Potter. They didn't have the unabridged War and Peace last time I was at the library. Are there any willow trees in that park close to the area described in last night's clue? If so, that might be where the puck is stuck. Just a thought.

It seems to me that some people think the right area is by the first big fallen down tree on the path, near the 2 and 3. In that scenario the "shelter" would be the picnic shelter off the parking lot. The "once blue pond" would be the small lake.

Other people seem to favor the area farther down the path, where there's a sitting "shelter" and other fallen down trees (or tree). The "pond" would be the marsh area that used to have water in it.

Thoughts?

I don't recall any willows when I was down there. I do recall lots of cottonwoods and pines though.

The Druids considered the oak to be a sacred tree, and they would perform rituals in oak groves. I don't know if I could get "mystical" or "spiritual" out of "magical", necessarily, although the Dakota people had one word to denote things magical, mysterious, sacred and holy: "wakan".

I'm not sure about this magical tree myself. Although I do think it's being used as a landmark, and it's most likely the remains of a tree, like a stump, or one that's dead and fallen over, or even dead and still standing. Clue #10 says the puck's "near" the magical tree, and where the life saving device once was, but that of course has been moved.

I think I know what happened to the puck!  The writer/hider has a black Lab that he brings everywhere with him and when the writer/hider hid the puck and unbeknownst to him the black Lab picked up the puck and it is now in the backseat of the writer/hiders car.

Outta asked about a willow tree last night.  I didn't know at the time where she was going with that, but now with the Harry Potter explanation, I understand.

im in favor of that second area. the one with the "giant fallin'" tree. i'm highly favoring the area north east of the shelter. i was back there on friday and there's LOTS of space and snow. it seems like a rough area to dig in-- lots of long grass that gets caught in the rake. there's also some duck houses in there too.

at this point i'm drawing a line between the "magical" tree and the "fallin' giant." they are NOT one and the same.

I was thinking 'magical' as a green tree, an evergreen.  Because they still have 'leaves' in winter when all the other trees are bare.

It seems to me that the life rafts would have originally been placed pretty close to the main trail just south of the lake, in case anyone would need to grab one and toss it out there fast. Last week, I recall walking by a yellow raft that was set up against a tree pretty near to the #3 marker-- I didn't think to dig nearby though. I do recall it being pretty close to the main trail.

I'm thinking that I'll return to that general area, just off the trail after marker #3, and see if I can find any trees with nails in them, or something stuck in them that might have been used as a hook off which to hang the life raft's handle.

I am pretty sure it's in Crosby (just like everyone else at this point) but I would soooooo love to see a 12th clue that takes everyone somewhere else.  Just for the sport of it. (much to many many peoples dismay - but I am stuck way out here - so entertain me darn it!)

I don't know how valuable this is - but the one common thread I am getting (as I am sure most of the rest of you are) is the *hippie* thing - folk music, herbs, trees (tree huggers)

Tie in Yarrow with it's healing (Magical) properties - you can also tie it in to Wicca - and with that, you can tie in the Magical Tree.  (You hold Yarrow in your hands to remove fear - i.e. have no fear) What's that you you hear - Alder trees are used in Wicca to make magical whistles

I know that Hawthorne Trees are one of the most sought after for making *wands for protection*  You ask permission of the willow tree for wishes to be granted.  Oak is also used for this - but those wands tend to be for *purification* - so all are *magical* I suppose.    Another one that is interesting is Hazel - it is believed that Hazel wands that are forked can be used to find burried treasure. - wands of this are used to gain Knowledge, wisdom and poetic inspiration (hmmm - rhyming clues?)

well just something for ya'll to think about when you are out looking at the trees -

I like the willow/harry potter explaination, but I'm sticking with fallen tree by the 2 and 3 until the next clue.  It felt really good, plus there was a prominently displayed branch and moss (lichen) covered fallen tree very close by.

Yes, I was wondering if the clues are telling us what area to look in (by the 2 and 3), or are leading us down a path towards the right area to look in (sitting shelter). Thanks for your thoughts! I think we all might be a bit surprised by tonight's clue or tomorrow's clue. Just a hunch.

what kind of tree was it evil?

I couldn't really tell.  I'll have to check when I head over after work.  Not a willow, though.  Probably an elm of some sort.  There were also what seemed to be little trails through the woods there that could be considered a place for hikin'.

as you come around the bend after sign 2-3 youll see a small feild as you face the lake and a large fallen tree with (or had) large mushrooms on it to the other side (right). The small tree on the lake side on the left of the feild as you look at the lake was where the life saver thing was on day 2. Thats near the magical mushroom tree. This is not where the med is though. Just the next marker. Clue 11 will go up the path just a tad more.
