- i also think this years clues were pretty good. they could have been a LITTLE more directional.. but like OTS said. we all had one or two of the right areas in mind. and i dug in the right area. so i feel satisfied. BUTTTT...
do have a problem if it was actually under bark still attached to the branch.
FB: I've got the "cache in, trash out" mentality drilled into me now, and I believe in leaving a place looking better than it did when I first visited. Can't do much about the torn-up trees and ground, but at least I can help pick up garbage. I'll check the Re-hash bash threads and plan on being there.
Just a quick hi , gotta go back and dig. I like the area if you linje up post 3 with 2 and follow close to, but not oncliff. It's bben graet t see so many of you in the park
I need a little help here. Where do I go to disable the pop-up notifiying you that you have a new message at the Yahoo Groups? This is driving me crazy!
toomuch ... email me the photo at Eric@Medallionators.comand I'll gladly put a photo of it on our site. I however dont have the energy tonight to drive an hour plus from my home to Crosby.
The woman who found it worked really hard at it. Dan saw her out hunting 3 different times, and she came to the fire several times with her Granddaughter. She had her clues & park map. I don't know if she had a THG. She kept working it, so I for one am really glad it was her, and not some one who 'tripped' over it. I thought the clues were great, the hunt had substance, and plenty of directions to take our noodles. Does Green know it's not at BC yet? Whee!!!
But I have "mom's taxi" duty tonight... if you go to Crosby tonight for the festivities, have fun! Maybe we'll see some of you at the Re-hash Bash on Sunday.
Ooh, I hope so! I've been waiting for a "Benjamin Gervais Winter Carnival Medallion" for some time now, especially since his former homestead is just a stone's throw from my front door. :-D
I brought everybody to that same exact tree on clue 2. A lot of folks thought it was right and some didn't, but I was there and even posted a pic of it early on. Later in the hunt I really thought it would be up a little from there and across the path. I posted that that was the magical tree, but that the treasure was up farther and the tree was a landmark. I was wrong. I tried looking at that tree many times, but it was just too big to adequatly search it my self. I did see the logs at the end where it was found, but they would have been really hard to search by myself. I just poked around them and concentrated more on the other end where I saw dog tracks last monday. I figured that the dog was smelling something and there were no other tracks out there at that time. I mentioned this numeruos times to a lot of different people, but also said that it could have been smelling a mouse. I think it paid off for me to be there that early and I did my best to bring victory to the cooler crew. Dang nabbitt.
Arrghhh. I looked under that log!! Bark was off tree on one end but still attached at the onterh. The piece of bark was abourt 6 inches across and 3 feet long, why didn't I pick it up?????
can't wait until next year. It was great to see so many of you in the park. Today around noon I saw Kitch, and Marley King sorry I forgot who was diggenwith him. Marly King was in that area for quit awhile. I only breezed through lookin under all the logs....
I don't know if the PP clue writers read these boards, but I just wanted to give them a plug... after all, clue writing isn't exactly a science, and hiding the medallion in a park where it's never been hidden before had a great side advantage of getting many people to the area that had probably never been there before.
As a person who spent many happy hours at Crosby in her youth, I urge you to go check out its trails in the spring and autumn (bring your bug spray if you go in the summer). Take your bike, take a fishing pole, take a lunch and stay awhile. It's really a wonderful park. There are parts of Crosby that seem so remote, especially the southeastern end and near the river-- if it weren't for the planes going over, you would swear you were in some remote location way up in northern Minnesota.
Crosby Park was where I saw my first-- and only-- painted bunting, about 12 years ago while I was taking a walk on a path near Crosby Lake. I'm not a bird watcher, but man, that was some gorgeous multicolored bird. Wish I'd had a camera with me.
Just thought of another fond memory of Crosby... when I was about 14, me and some friends rode our bikes down there to do some fishing. We took one of the wooded trails off a main path to get to a nice sandy spot. I threw in my line (which was baited with nothing more than corn kernels and aluminum foil) and pulled up an incredibly big and ugly 10 pound catfish that fought like the dickens. That fish looked like 40 miles of bad road-- we are talking UG-LY. But it was a ton of fun to catch. That sort of thing always stays with you. :-)
I am not going to be foolish and bitter about this. It was a fun hunt (as it always is) and the clues this year made sense and indeed were logical...and best of all an animal didn't run off with it, but...
Â
In the bigger picture, can we not have one treasure hunt (one...it's all I ask) where good noodling throughout gets us there and never, not even on clue 12 does it give an exact location? Of course serious hunters will always hunt, but it would be SO very nice if extremely fine detective work could get you there extrememly early and even the best detective work wouldn't get it found on clue 12. Clues that are brain related.  Let's face it, all the detective work in the world couldn't have gotten people like me and others (who were in Crosby from clue 2 on) to the hiding spot. The whole place would have had to have been raked...and then boom - clue 11 hits, everyone knows where it is, people who have never set foot out their door in the last 10 days run out and dig and it is found - and for only $5000.00. It just makes it pointless. How about some deductive clues? C'mon, make it a game, a puzzle...not luck. If the clue-writer reads this...Please, give it a try.
Â
Thanks all for the good times once again! I may see you at the rehash, if not...catch you all the next go around.
Sad time when it's been found, but really, I am glad it was someone who was working at it.
Regarding the Rehash Bash
Where's Terry V. when you need her? If we always have the rehash the Sunday after it is found, then we always know when it is. It was announced a long time ago in a thread on the main treasure hunting page. (This made me laugh as I was slogging.)
From my way of thinking, the rehash has ALWAYS been the Sunday after the hunt. If we wait a week, people will be back to whatever normal life they have the other 50 weeks of the year. My vote is that we keep it the way it's been scheduled. The Super Bowl doesn't start till later, and most likely, the bash will be over no later than 4.
Reg - Your 2nd mom? You're a sweet guy. Hope you find college a fabulous experience.Â
For years, I've wanted the treasure to be put in Hidden Falls. After this hunt, I'm eager for it to return to Como.
Just a note:Â Â
As much as the parking was problematic down there, it was kind of neat that we were guaranteed to see each other coming and going. I spent more time stopping and talking to people coming and going than I did hunting.
I agree on keeping the rehash this sunday, we already planned for it to be that day, plus it is supposed to be really nice out on sunday, I would rather be out there on a nice day and let the kids enjoy themselves, if we wait it will probably get cold again and noone will want to show up.
Terry V - I had been asking you about the movie last night. Sounds like I may get to one of the Sunday shows!!! This seemed like an odd Hunt didn't it? Did the other parks get many people searching them this year since throughout the clues the general concesses was Crosby right along?

Snodgrass has APTHS (accute post traumatic hunt syndrome) and is going to attempt curing himself tonight at Bugg's Bar... more details to come.
Just a quick hi , gotta go back and dig. I like the area if you linje up post 3 with 2 and follow close to, but not oncliff. It's bben graet t see so many of you in the park
APTHS. I think that's what i got. :( or just the blues.
Oh no, stop New Daddy!
APTHS (accute post traumatic hunt syndrome)
I think its contagious!
What are the chanes of someone posting a picture of the general location on line?
Bring a cigar and some beer. Some people from the PP Board are going to be hanging out there at the pavilion tonight.

Did anyone notice in the clue explanations (http://www.twincities.com/mld/twincities/news/special_packages/winter_carnival/treasure_hunt/10713156.htm) that the last clue says 'Thomas Crosby’s Winter Carnival Medallion' ... is this an indicator that we will have seperate medallions in the coming years?

Whee!!!
That was a very satisfying hunt. Alas, I wish it were me (or one of you) who had stumbled across the puck. There's always next year.
Looking forward to the RHB and mock hunts.Â

I'm heading to Great Waters.
better go to an oysterbar and back to the redandnater.com message board
Don't know why that did't post until now.

The kid was crying at first, but mom and dad were focus on diggin and last I saw him he was picking up sticks..
I wonder if excavating stud saw them leave. he was by the pathway entrance at the time it must have been found

Here Here Good Job on the Clues!! Thanks for the fun.
Buzz - I hope they open it up to Ramsey and Washington County's and plop that thing right in my backyard ... Forest Lake!
Evening everyone.Â
Sad time when it's been found, but really, I am glad it was someone who was working at it.

I'm attending the film again (with my homies) on Sunday.Â
Exactly.Â
Now to figure out what to bring.Â
The word "logic" has more than three letters, the guy posting as Sondgrass won't understand.
BWAAAAAAHAAAAAA!
I hope to get to one of the Saturday showings.Â
Just ran accross an interesting site:Â http://www.nwtmint.com/MakeMedallion/MakeMedallion.htm
Don't forget that this weekend shows are on Friday at 5 Pm, Saturday at 12:30 and then Sunday at 12:30 and 3:00.
Thanks for that reminder. I forgot there was only the one showing on Saturday.
Someone should bring some magical tree almond bark- heh.
Regman- I suppose next year we'll have to make a cardboard you, and haul it all over.
Funny how quiet it gets after the prize has been found and the clue explanations have been read.
Good hunt this year. I like that it didn't go to the 12th clue.
Great hunt, everyone. I felt more a part of it this year than I have in several. Good fun in this forum. Good clues. Good googa mooga.
Seeya next year.

Greg - I keep hoping one year you'll actually make it back here to live so hunting is always an option.
I don't know if the PP clue writers read these boards
They can't read this thread.

REGMAN
You'll be back... someday. You'll be 37 and taking vacations to come here.
Best of luck to you, Reg.
:-)
See ya Greg. Thanks for everything.

Greg - We didn't get out much by far as I would have liked, but we did get out there.Â
