Terry

I have hung fliers, sent fliers to friends inviting them to come see the movie...and yet they don't.  I know my daughter has done that as well.  I think I figured it out why though.  It's like we're one of "those" people...and they're not so they can't relate.

There is a division of hunters and non-hunters in the Twin Cities.  When I talk about the hunt to non-hunters at work or wherever, they just give you that little smirkey smile and try to change the subject.   If you meet someone and mention you hunt the medallion, the reaction is often something like "oh, you're one of those people.  Interesting."

Strange folks.

oh, you're one of those people

It's because Jake doesn't take a shower for days (weeks?)

Hadn't thought about that...but it's a definate possibility.

Yeah Terry, Trent and I have noticed that reaction to hunters from non-hunters -- especially people in Minneapolis.  At least when the film reaches a national audience we won't have that dynamic to worry about.  We have had some non-hunters see the film and say, "oh so THAT's what all the fuss is about."   But as you said, the hard part is getting them to see it in the first place!

We really appreciate the effort you are making to get the word out anyway!   -- JG

Did the screenings do any better this weekend?

Just for the record, I went to the World Premier (sat next to Lisa n Amy's mommy) and brought a friend along who in past years thought the hunt was dramatically silly and thought I was crazy.

Since seeing the movie, he's joined the Crew, he's taken days off of work, and will be in the park for the next several days.  If you meet a guy named "Digger" that's him.

Great.  Another "Digger" to try and keep straight!  :D

Welcome, Digger!

Yeah, we'll have to work with him on the name.  I thought "Joey Numbers" was better since he's an accountant, but hey, I'm just your ordinary average bear.

Regarding the "big screen"... we will have to see what kind of distribution offers we get after we do the film festival circuit.  There are not many documentaries that get massive release on the "big screen."  Just a handful that you can probably name, but documentaries are increasing in popularity so that bodes well.  In any case I am sure it will screen in theaters in select cities throughout the country at the very least -- if not through an established distributor, then Trent and I will probably self-distribute and set up the screenings.

According to Trent, last Saturday's screenings had a bigger showing than the opening weekend, but not by much.  And despite the massive press we've gotten these past 2 weeks, he still runs into tons of people in the park that haven't even heard of the film.  Strange.

If the people in the park who haven't heard of the film are like me, they have a pile of unread papers and haven't turned on their TV for over a week.  Just a thought.

I dreamed last night that a friend of mine had died and I missed the obituary because I hadn't read the paper.

Listen for either me or Trent on Mischke tonight at 10:07pm. (am1500 KTSP)

I'm hoping Trent can do the interview instead of me because he's better with interviews, but we've had SUCH bad luck with our flights being on time.  He's at the airport now and his flight is already 30 minutes delayed, which means he'll have about 15 minutes to catch his connecting flight.  If he misses that he won't be home till after 11pm our time and I'll be doing the interview HOPING that my kids are alseep and not screaming in the background of a live interview.  (they are not good sleepers...)

OT, why aren't you reading the paper? If you read the paper you'd know there's a treasure hunt going on right now...there's a clue in every day's paper.  If you find it you win some money, I'm told.

I'll be listening.  That's the station I listen to.  He knows about Mischke, right?  That he's flaky.

Bear, I open up the paper, remove the Local section with the clues and put them aside.  Also put aside the Daily Life section so I can work the cross word puzzle after the hunt.  Oh, and on Monday I pull the Sports to see how many points I've earned in my Fantasy Golf League.  I haven't even looked to see how my golfer has done the past two tournaments.  And I read my clues here.  ;)

Well people have told us that Mischke has said bad things about hunters in the past, including I think in 2002 calling them "an embarrassment to Saint Paul" so I'm not sure what to expect.

What exactly do you mean by flaky?  What should we expect?  Does he insult his guests?

I think in 2002 calling them "an embarrassment to Saint Paul"

That sounds like Mischke.

He's awesome.

He'll probably poke fun, but he's not mean spirited.

He'll probably give you a hard time, that's for sure.  Maybe he'll even put the whole film concept to music, sing a little song about it.  He's a little off the wall.  I know his brother who is a complete opposite personality.  You're never sure which Mischke will show up though.  Just be prepared to defend your film.

I don't mean to scare you.  You'll do fine.  But it isn't going to be one of your regular interviews.  Maybe Google KSTP and Mischke and there will be more about him and his style in there.

Like THX said, he's not malicious.  But he's a great tease.  Heck, I listen to him most every night.  There are some great characters that call in every night.  Or if no one calls, he just talks to himself.  ;)

Jackie, I believe Mischke used to call into the radio station all the time as a cller, he was such a nut, they gave him his own show.

Mischke's being VERY nice!  A good interview.  Long enough to get a lot of questions in.  Did you catch that his wife is a hunter?  Maybe she told him he'd better not be bashing hunters.  ;)

Thanks for the kind words.  I give Mischke a lot of credit for being informed about the hunt and the film.  When media does their homework, it makes for a decent interview.  Throughout this afternoon, Mischke requested a lot of info about the film, and he and Jackie exchanged a slew of e-mails, and it seems like his diligence paid off.

You guys have some quality local media.  As Jackie and I have done our little media tour, we've been impressed by how professional and informed everyone has been (of course, we avoided the M.A. Rosko types).

Fun interview!  And probably one of his (mischke's) more well behaved at that.  I have no idea what kind of audience he has, but the interview was way cooler!  Hope it gets some new people out to see it.  Now that the real hunt is over, maybe there'll be a few more at the show :).

Trent - You got some decent time tonight.  Hope Jackie gets the same.  People have a chance to really hear and get interested in a piece that's longer than a few minutes.

I agree.  Half an hour is a good chunk of time to get your message out there and he has a HUGE audience.  I think it will sell some tickets.  Especially the timing of it on the day the medallion was found.

Haha!  Too bad you don't get Mischke there, Trent.  He's made up and is singing a song about Mad Cow Found In French Goat right now.  You got lucky!

Hello all,
First great hunt this year thought the clues were resonable and fair. Wanted to hear peoples reaction/thoughts over some topics my hunting partner and I were rehashing tonight over a few tonight....

Iam sure the these topics have beeb discussed before,,, but what effect do u think these message boards/evolution of the internet technology has contributed and effectively in my mind changed the hunt... iam of the school of thought that the hunt is going through a fundmental change to clues going to 9 or higher and parks being on the bigger scale... como phalen harriet crosby etc.... the popularity of the hunt combined with the effect of technology I think is forcing the hunt to go down a new path in order to satisfy these variables....iam curious what other thoughts are on this

I was thinking about that the other night.  It's much more sophisticated than it used to be, as is most everything with all the new technology since 1952.  I was wondering what this Hunt will be like in ten, twenty years.  No one had even imagined home computers and other electronic devices available now.
