The "Super Secret Plan" - AKA: Zeph's Place

Grandpa Dan Zachary

I sit here in awe of you folks. When this all began and you were talking about someone that you barely knew, I was expecting maybe one care package and a few funny photos. It has surpassed anything that I had ever imagined. Each event has been even better than the last. What a great way to top it off by placing "Zephy" in a museum.

I have been told that it is the least that you can do for him, but stop for a second and think about what was accomplished here. Not only did you acquire a mountain of stuff to send to him and the others in his unit, but I hear that he is the first to be knighted 3 times at the carnival (is that true?), his cardboard cat took 2nd place in a contest (O.K., so there was only 1 other cat and he was real, so it wasn't fair!), he will be in the torchlight parade, the mayor of St. Paul will declare a day in his honor, he made not only the Pioneer Press, but also WCCO television news and this is just a partial list.

You have really brightened the lives of not only Jason, his wife and children, but his entire family and friends as well, at a time when it was really needed. It has been an honor to observe all that you have done for him and it is greatly appreciated.

"Zephy's" spot in the museum was earned by all your hard work and sacrifice.  He will stand there as a witness to what you have accomplished not only for Jason, but for many others as well.

Not that it matters - IT'S STILL WAY COOLER!!!  You guys are amazing! -- But it sounds like it would be a fun place to check out sometime.....especially like in July, when we are so far from the Winter Carnival.

ya know, i've got to say that throughout this whole thing, with all the knighting ceremonies and whatnot, of all the groups we've interacted with, the vulcans were far and away the coolest bunch of guys we could ever have hoped to come across. They were the first to actually give a firm yes that Zephy could be knighted, and then that he could ride with them in the parade (on the condition that he wear red instead of green, of course. Thanks to scribe for letting him borrow her vulcan coat for the evening). They firmed up details of when and where we need to be for the staging with us today. Vulcanus Rex even offered to give me his phone number. We think it'd be a great idea to make up certificates of appreciation for all of them for going well above and beyond to help make this a success.

Hail the Vulc!!!

I'm sitting here kind'a crying.  Ares, OTiS, Chesty, PayMe...  Thank you all so much for all your hard work and time - time away from digging, too.

I can't believe what you've done on behalf o'The 'Crew.

A Zephy Day!  I'm just crying!

We are the greatest, THE GREATEST!, group of people in the world.

(P.S.  I told you guys back in '98 that someday we'd be a part of the Winter Carnival History...  I've not been right about many Clues, but I was right about that!  God Bless The Cooler Crew!  Coolerheads DO, and will continue to, prevail!  You're all wonderful, remarkable, fantastic, loving people.  I'm so proud to include myself in your ranks.)

Zephy will receive the proclamation from the Mayor in closed chambers on Sat before the parade. Jason's family will attend and the Mayor will be giving the certificate to Stacy in Jason's absence. We really wanted this to be a public event open to everyone but because of time constraints this is the only way we can make it happen. So Saturday, February 5th will be proclaimed Sgt. Jason "Zephyrus" Anderson day in St. Paul! He will then ride in the torchlight parade on the Vulcan fire truck. A big thank you goes out to Scribe who is lending him her authentic Vulcan jacket for this event!

Yes we will be there! I heard that we are also invited to follow the mayor in the parade as his special guest as well. Should be fun.

I am his uncle. My daughter had a baby about a year ago, so I became grandpa Dan in celebration. MaGraber that posts here since this Zephy stuff began is his grandmother. Sadly, the grandfather passed away some time ago.

Sorry the pics are poor quality, had to reduce them far so they would transfer to this site.

It was a most amazing evening. Besides all the honoring of "Zephyrus", we got a fancy dinner with the mayor and other mayors from the area, being in the parade and still having time to watch much of the parade. I even got to meet Bill Fold and his wife who posts on the "In the News" threads (he actually is a decent guy).

Thanks for a memorable evening and hope to see you all at the shindig tomorrow.

Grandpa Dan - It would be wonderful to include those pictures on the coolercrew.com website.  If you don't mind sharing, you could speak with ares about getting him those photos at the event later today.

I met Bill Fold a few years ago shortly after I found out what his real name is.  I asked if he knew a gal I went to school with and it turned out to be his sister.  Small world, isn't it?  We met shortly after that.  He was very nice to Inks and me.

I am willing to share, but I think Ares got better pictures. I will look into sending them in and let you guys decide what belongs on the site.

i would loved to been a fly on the wall....

Actually, I was wondering how it would turn out as well, but decided that nothing too bad would happen in a very public place like the parade. I am actually glad that I got to meet him. He was very sociable and very nice.

He has been chatting with me through e-mail about having a big gathering for Jason's unit when they finally get to come home. I guess there is a vet's camp on Big Marine Lake where he can throw them a big welcome home party at. Pig roast and all. Sounds like you guys will be invited as well. That won't happen for quite a while though.

Because it wouldn't be much fun if we couldn't talk about him behind his back....

LOL, keep him guessing.
