it's hump day...wish it was friday!

shows...
thursday high on stress lee's liquor lounge
friday pedro the lion first ave., the ashtray hearts the entry, olympic hopefuls the uptown bar.
saturday more stuff i want to see that i can't remember. this is why i must make list and decisions. i certainly can't go to all of them or afford even one but i must search in all couches for i need me some money for good music or i will melt.

this february seems so long already. i want spring and summer and sun. i just finished getting all this schtuff together at work for the next years ad campaign which feels good but i feel so lazy. it might be the constant dinkin around layin around and watching movies. but i love to do that! argh. something. can't pinpoint. i gots to go run tonight or something. thinkin the classes at the loft will help. dangnabit i better get my butt in gear. ttyl.

ohhh pedro the lion. i like them. have fun. lemme know how it goes. i haven't been to a show recently. i'm fiending. i think the last show i went to was rufus wainwright? can that be true?! wow.

How was Rufus? I wanted to see him, but we had something else going on that night. I saw his dad a few months before at The Cedar.

Loudon rules. did you see him in Big Fish? I have a live Loudon CD. He cracks me up. Totally different from Rufus. I've seen Rufus twice now. Once with Ben Folds at that Wisc. festival. /me swoon. I love me Ben Folds. If only I could have seen Ben Folds Five when they were still together. Same with Mike Doughty and Soul Coughing. I've seen him as just Doughty.. but that's it. Are you guys addicted to 89.3 the current like I am?

Wed, 02/09/2005 - 3:10 PM Permalink
Frosti

I am totally loving 89.3! On Friday I went over to a buddy's house to have a few beers. His wife works at MPR and scored me two 89.3 bumper stickers. They were the high point of my weekend!

I didn't see Big Fish, and I didn't even realize Loudon was in it. He was pretty good on that doctor show (Scrubs?) but I only saw it once or twice.

Oriongirl79

haha i never saw him on scrubs. that's funny.

i'm listening to the current right now. i ran to the corner where they were handing out the bumper sticker and i got a window cling! ooooh. my boyrfiend and i are thinking about volunteering for the fund drive. they emailed us for help. :)

<3 the current!

Yeah, I got one cling and one sticker. That would be a fun and interesting group to volunteer for. You should do it!

yes, yes... 89.3 is good stuff....

93X was my channel, for the most part for a real long time, now... but ive had 89.3 on, constantly, whenever im around a radio, since I heard about it.... i feel kinda guilty for giving up 93X, so easily....

hopefully, they dont start a concert/camping event, similar to X-Fest.... thats one of the things I look forward to, each summer.

okay...too many things to reply to!!!

I will be making more clings and putting them up for sale on my website when I get that shiznit all together, I know a lot of people wanted them at the Rehash and I didn't have time to make them. Sorry. :(

The new radio station RULES! It's so much like Rev105 used to be with all the same radio personalities and excellent music. YAY!!!!!

Oriongirl, I got to see Soul Coughing at First Avenue, I have to say about 10 or more years ago. The bass player signed my ticket after the show! It was an awesome show. They're one of my favorite bands. A coworker of mine is a HUGE fan of Ben Folds, like bordering on obsessive. You guys should talk. I'm more of an obsessive Beck fan....all his CD's, been to damn near every concert since 93...crazy. :)

A concert like Edgefest would be AWESOME!!!! Sorry Nick, Edgefest was before XFest, when 93.7 was The Edge and not 93X. That was a sad day when they switched formats, as much as I like Alice In Chains, and I'm not being sarcastic, I love them. Was crabby for DAYS after my parents wouldn't let me go to Lollapalooza to see them.

Rosie, I too have almost put away the milk in the cereal cupboard....and how many times do you run up and down the stairs trying to remember crap??? I swear some days I'll wear out the carpet.

G: my boyfriend LOVES to rub in the fact he's seen Soul Coughing numerous times and Ben Folds Five numerous times. AND he's younger than me. But I just never went to shows in Highschool. I don't think I even knew minneapolis exsisted. But since we've been together I've seen more concerts than I have in my entire life. Viva la First Ave!

I played bouncer at First Ave for about 3 months.....

Just to do it.

Totally not trying to rub it in your face! I practically lived at First Avenue in high school, went to the Sunday Night dance parties and stuff all the time. Haven't been to a concert there in FOREVER. I think the last one I saw there was Tenacious D, you know with Jack Black? That was awesome. Was REALLY shocked when it closed, but VERY excited when it re-opened. I knew they couldn't close down such a great place!

good thing, that floor is gross.

Yeah it was a little gross.

I got the bouncer gig because I wanted to try it out. Trust me... wasn't about the money. They didn't seem to understand that I was making a rather good living with my regular job.

Was fun while it lasted.

By the way... never found any ghosts as much as I tried to find some.

my story:

I got drunk, and did "the worm" and they asked me to leave.

one of my cool cousins(i have alot of them), who happened to have hookups and whatnot for shows/events, there, knew that Im a big pro wrestling geek, and 1st ave started doing an indy fed there, one wednesday a month, back a couple years ago, so she told me all about it..... I became hooked.... went there for EVERYTHING concerts, wrestling...etc.... one night after a rasslin event, they had "dance night" or something, and I didnt even intend to drink that night, but wound up getting freebies, because of someone I knew that knew someone, who knew someone else, etc..... well.... yeah.... I did the worm, and every one was jealous....(i really dont remember much, but thats what I'll say happened, let me believe what I want to!!!!), so a bouncer asked me to leave.

fun stuff.

i lover 89.3 sooo much! i feel a sigh of relief realizing that someone finally figured out that radio does not have to be crap! i live at first ave, the entry, the triple rock, station four, the terminal bar....i could go on forever....i love shows so so much. it frees my mind. in fact tonight at lee's liquor lounge there is a hot show going on and it's free anyone that's available should check it out!

as far as embarassing things that happen at first ave...there used to be this bouncer guy that i was totally in love with bout two years ago. i think i would go once a week just to see him. but of course i would never never approach or talk to him. just watch from a distance. very stalker like...lol. passing him on the stairs one time i fell. it was hot and i loved it. ya right i felt like such an idiot. needless to say i still went back to see him every once in a while. he was just so cute and punk rock i coulnd't help it! and yes i'm pathetic.  hehe.

When I was working there, there was one Punk Rock guy I remember who had Green Hair.

They do this thing on your first night where the new guy has to sing a song. It sucks because it's totally left field and nobody warned me.

Other then that it was fun working there. I got to toss a few people around. Had one threaten me in front of his friends and then came back to find me later becaue he was afraid I would catch him on a night he was alone and kick his ass. He was stoned off his butt and had those cat eye contacts in. He claimed he was out of his mind at the time and didn't know what he was saying.

Most of the time I never had to get physical with people but the times I did it was pretty fun. Nothing like a big drunk guy trying to man handle a bigger sober guy in a dark room with lots of flashing lights and a slick ass floor to make you laugh.
