if payme had bought 200 tiarras she would have gotten shit on for trying to make tiarras the official hat of the cooler crew or some shit.

What about the set up fee that Me2 took care of with the scarves so that we can get merchandise more inexpensively next year. What about her time and energy? No big deal? It is to me.

What about it? She did that on her own as far as I know and it was very nice of her to do that, but now we are trying to make a group decision on upgrading the logo.

well, randy i know you've been in here since 2002 (late posts back at the pp are the earliest ones i can find relating to anyone with a screen name of Randy), but the group goes back farther than even i've been around it.

well i have been arguing with GREEN online via the PP since conway( back when i thought she was a hippie HE)...hee hee - I think i used to post under javajoemud or something dumb - too many bong hits ago to remember- clumaster actually got me online - back when i only knew him as BRAD from the st. paul

Tim is somewhat right-that I did it on my own-I did drive out and choose the snowflakes and material and all-BUT I only went forward with it because members in the crew wanted them.

there are newer people here who were not here last year when I brought up an idea about scarves. People liked the idea and wanted me to look into it and do it. So I did. I waited til the end of December -early January to even act upon it when current interest popped up again about the scarves by Cooler Members -wondering if I was gonna do it. So I did it.

I talked about it throughout the hunt to people who purchased the scarves: that this charge of $10 covered the set up fee that we wouldnt have to pay again when doing future Cooler Crew scarves and other memorabilia. That the scarves could be enhanced for the same $10 with a whip stitch or double material or even our names or yr on them because we already paid the set up fee in the 1st year that the scarves wouldnt be higher for quality in another year. We had the Logo set for future sweatshirts, hats anything! we could even change up the snow flakes -but we got the Logo secured with a company. Then all of a sudden the hunt is over and some are talking about a set up fee with some other company and changing the logo-

but I do think of them as girls that just had a good time.....

isn't what this is all about...just something fun....

I know that there is a few people in this city that look at the medallion hunt as a way to make money. I honestly believe that 99% of the crew is just wanting to have a good time.

With that being said....they are princesses to me....

Archduchesses Big G? I can see it...

Empress Scribe? --cool

Lady Leelabell? -  I like it....

Queen Pay Me? nah...sounds like an old lady...gotta work on that...

 

I have to say a few things:

First and foremost.  I am a new member here.  I do not want to up and change things.  I followed along with the group and figured I would help organizing some of the ideas.  Whatever the outcome it should be a group effort.  It is my feeling that the earlier these decisions are made the easier it is to get everything organized for next year.   One of the other thoughts I had and I have read from other people that if people have left for the off season they will not return until it is too late.  This is why I am working with THX in getting an email list together to contact as many people as we possibly can.

Me2: I was not trying to take away from your scarves or the fact that you had the stitch pattern already done...heck I bought 2 and wear them everywhere!!  I never want to assume that anybody wants to take responsiblity for things so I am more then happy to take care of what I can.  I didnt want to assume that you were fine being in charge of all that!!  If you are that is great and much appreciated.  Please know whatever I can do to help all you have to do is ask.

As for Tiara's....I would have loved to buy everyone a tiara (including Tim).  However financially it is just not possible.  This was a joke I was just adding too.  If anyone would like a tiara please let me know I will make sure you have one before the hunt begins next year.  It is not an all inclusive the 4 of us are the only ones....it was a joke.  I by no means wanted people to feel left out upset anyone by making the joke.

we will have to see how this works out cause the logo and company were set in place just before the hunt. If people decide to change the logo than are we still using this company that is inexpensive? or is someone else taking this over?

Pay Me and I were willing to pay the 80 dollars for the new Logo Stitch pattern if it came to that me2. From what we were told this can be used anywhere......

Me2,  I think if the logo ends up changing we should price several different places.  Then go from there.  We should see where things go and figure out who could take the lead in this.  If your place is cheaper I would say you go for it(long way for me to drive) If there is somewhere that neither of us have gone to then we can work that out too!!

Okay, my two cents...

I am offended by being called an "artist" with quotes, it is actually my profession, no quotes neccesary. hehe :) I know you're not talking to me specifically OTiS, but I just wanted to clear that up.

Oriongirl, your point is a good one. You can't take images off a website and use them in a logo, it looks like crap because it's a low resolution. That being said, not all of us have Illustrator or are good illustrators and not everyone has the knowledge of resolution like we do. ESD and I both have Illustrator, but we're also both graphic designers, so we're willing to pay the aggregious dollar amount for it because it's worth it. I would never expect everyone in this group to go out and get it (or steal it! for shame!) to enter the logo contest. I know that's not what you're saying, but if anything, if someone comes up with a decent idea using raster images, any of us could always recreate it in Illustrator for use on clothing and banners, etc. On a different note....EIGHT??? Girl, don't you do anything else? :)

Me2...I completely and totally understand what you're saying, but it's a little unflexible. Every company at one time or another has gone through an identity change to refresh their image, update it, and give it a more current look. Notice the new Burger King signs lately? How about White Castle? TCF Bank? Sure, some companies haven't changed...Coca Cola, Apple, Target, etc. but they've changed their mottos and ideas to keep a current perspective and to attract new customers even if they're logo hasn't changed. Some logos speak for the company so well that they are bulletproof. My opinion is that that is not the case with the banner at the top of this webpage.

Okay, we're not trying to attract customers, I realize that. But we are trying to put a new face forward. With all respect to Greg Sax, the logo is boring. I'm sure he wasn't trying to make anything flashy when he created it, just something simple the fit the small group at the time. The Cooler Crew that started 8 years has grown and changed into today's much larger and more diverse crew, and changing a logo doesn't mean we're changing the principles of the group. Not in the LEAST! It means reflecting the crew in a more current and stylish way. Everyone that's in the crew is proud of being a part of the crew and would like to display a consistent cohesive symbol of the group rather than everybody coming up with their own thing and doing whatever they want.

As oriongirl said, the symbol of the crew currently is a banner on a website that is totally unfit for reproducing decently. It's a banner, not a logo. I really don't know how else to say this because it's been said over and over again. NO ONE is interested in doing away with our roots. I am proud that the group was founded by such kind and wonderful people and am proud to be part of such a diverse and interesting group. Having a new logo doesn't do away with that. 8 years is a long time to be identified by one thing. Hell I've only been in business for 4 years and I'm considering reworking my logo because some of the artwork I did when I started and what I do now is different and I need to create something that represents me better. If this logo is causing such a rift, it's apparent that some sort of change is needed.

As far as the date goes, now is a perfect time. The hunt is still fresh and people are still excited. In June, I can't say that'll be the case. Moving this to 2 months before the hunt still doesn't guarantee that all members will be included in voting because a lot of people don't show up until a week or a few days before the hunt. In such an enormous group, not including everyone is inevitable, and that's unfortunate, I know. I realize THX is trying to compile a list of everyone's email address so we can try to include as many people as possible, but that doesn't guarantee that they're going to get back to the site to vote.

As far as the cliquey thing goes, TC, I am hurt by what you said to Tim. The Zephy deal could've easily been taken as a cliquey thing. You and Jason represented the whole group at several of the events and in the paper and I can't say for sure that everyone was okay with that. I don't know what could've been done differently, and the whole Zephy thing was a wonderful idea, but there seemed to be a lot of fighting for "credit" that turned out okay in the end, but just goes to show what we're in for in the long run. I am not hurt that the geocachers hang out together, or that there are remains of the puck posse hanging out or any of that. If we are grown ups, we should be able to be in our chosen group of friends but be able to bounce from group to group and associate with each other in a friendly way despite that. Tim is not a grown up, don't expect much from him. :) (just had to lighten it up a bit...whew! too serious!!)

We are just too big for our britches to not have one person or another or a whole group of people be offended by this, that and the other. That's the whole point I think. At what point is a consensus on something reached when you have 50+ people, some of which aren't on the boards all the time, in a group? When all 50 say yes? 25? The handful of founding members? Think about it. There's going to be a helluva lot of arguing.
