Haha Kitch. I'd just like to be the finder on one of these small town hunts this year. I'm gonna start scouting oakdale parks now, make up my own maps, sorta like map guy's, but the cluewriters won't have access to em. I believe that one was a good hunt last year, something like a 1200 dollar prize.

thanks kitch, see, good prize money on that one. I think I'd turn that medallion in. What's better is it's cash, you don't need a stinkin button to get it all, and you can spend it anywhere (even in NSP, unless they only accept "Medallion Dollars" as a form of money..).

No issues with the fact it was actually found after 3 clues?

KC0GRN

other than the fact that the clues in that hunt actually did suck? No.. not really. Next year on NSP I vote for the brute force method of finding that sucker, everybody take a park in NSP and search it. Only 18 options at the most.

unless its the bigger ones..those we need a bunch of people in the park....

but the small ones thats all you need to do....

Still, judging by the clues, I doubt they'd every put you in the right park. Honestly every clue pointed you to a different one, with only a slight reference to the actual place. Best to just canvas NSP for 2 days and get it the hard way. Least you'd have something to hang up at GW next to the Cooler Crew sign... lol

I'll just need to find it before clue one and let you know where it was Kitch.  ;-)

It won't matter anyway since it's OT's turn to get it.  It'll probably be on her front porch this year.

Sure FB, check out the geocaching folder and you'll find tons of info on it. Actually with the metal detector, I'd bet geocaching is right up your alley. Course ya need to get a GPS to really get into it, but I managed to find a few caches with just an online map.

Dang you're all set then! I think Ian (or myself?) was going to have a geocaching event sometime soon to show people how it's done, but it's fairly simple, input the coordinates of a cache in your area, follow the gos to the spot, find the cache, sign the logbook, and log your find online.

Diving Medallion Hunt
May 4 • Detroit Lakes
If you’ve ever fantasized about searching for sunken treasure, here’s your opportunity. Divers are invited to scour the Detroit Lakes area in search of a medallion that will net them a prize valued at between $300 and $500.
Each Friday, starting May 4, a new clue is posted at Tri-State Diving near Detroit Lakes until someone locates the sunken medallion.
According to Gary “Seal” Thompson, the first few clues help you locate the right lake, and then things get more specific each week. The clues are free, but you have to stop at the store to get them. The person who finds the medallion wins a diving-related prize.
Thompson says he’s been running the contest since 1996. He doesn’t know exactly how many people participate, because you don’t have to register, but he thought at least 30 divers from all around the region take part. You don’t have to be a diver either. Thompson said some non-divers play just because they enjoy figuring out the clues.
Even if you don’t find the medallion, Thompson says diving in the Detroit Lakes area offers many other treasures.
“We have some of the best diving as far as fresh water lakes in the world,” Thompson said.
Some of the things you might discover while exploring include sunken forests at around 40 feet. And don’t be surprised if you stumble across bones of prehistoric bison. Bones that have been verified at 13,000 years old by University of Minnesota archaeologists have been recovered by divers. Thompson said he may have enough of them to reconstruct an entire bison skeleton.
Of the placement of the clues, Thompson said, “It’s obvious, but not obvious. We don’t want people moving things around on the bottom of the lake.” He added that during some hunts, people have been as close as 10 feet from the medallion without seeing it.
“There are only two places you can experience weightlessness,” Thompson said while describing the joys of diving. “Underwater and outerspace.”
Location: Tri-State Diving is on a private lake north of Detroit Lakes. Take County Road 21 north for about three miles and then go about mile and a half on Little Floyd Lake Road. Watch for signs to direct you.
Information: Call Thompson at (888) SCUBADO (728-2236).

Clue #1
To Winter Fest 2005 your are heartily welcomed
Tis a cold time of year to be out and about
Many more clues will captivate and frustrate
Don’t stay out too, long you’ll freeze your little snout.

My hiding place is secret, and also very secure.
I won’t be found easily, you can be sure
That the urge to seek, for this there is no cure.
My treasure to find, that is the cure

Clue #2
Where would you hide if you were me?
Under a rock or up a tree.
When looking for me there is no fee.
Answers to these are part of the key.

first thing that jumped into my head is to keep it simple.

Maybe  one of those fake rocks that you hide a key??

No fee...don't go to the state park....but I wonder if the bike trails charge a fee.

Fish lake is a ways off......I didn't give it any credit until the "fee" part......

I think Fish lake does charge for parking in the summer come to think of it....
