Did you really?!?!? That would be super! It's one of the first things I thought of this morning was whether or not we'd see him here today.

I tried to Egram him but he was gone pretty quick.

Do you know if he's started getting any of the packages yet?

I assume getting packages there would be easier than getting stuff to Guatemala through that crazy mail system...but perhaps not.

We sent a package to my son early November. He just got it this last week. Other things we send get there quickly. Most everything ends up in customs...and one package we sent never did arrive and that's now been a year.

The first couple were sent priority mail...however this only gets the box to New York.  From there it is as long as it takes the Army to deliver it.  The average is between 2-4 weeks.  So I would think by the end of this week he should start seeing some!

At least it's the Army doing the delivering.

My son talks about his drunken mailman in his town all the time. Mail delivery in that country is a joke.

Hehe....the Army can be pretty bad at times.  I do have to say for the most part during a deployment they really do try to do their best.  We used to have all kinds of issues with the little post office on base in Germany!!

Little issues?

There was many A time I wanted to pay the normal rate and send things on the Economy.

The German postal service while costly was quick and never lost things.

He just egrammed me.  He is fine.  They are reconfiguring his internet so it has been going up and down for a few days.

We adopted a Marine last year. His unit's web site, and the web site we adopted him from, had some info about shipping. It sounds like Priority Mail is the way to go, if cost is not an issue, as packages will get there in 7-14 days. The Priority Mail boxes are expedited by the USPS, and when it gets into the hands of the military in New York or wherever, the Priority Mail boxes get first priority in getting on the plane. Mailing things the regular way, it can take 30-90 days.

I just sent three boxes to Iraq (two for Zephy) Priority Mail and it cost $50. However, these boxes were a bit heavier than boxes we have sent in the past. It has usually cost maybe $8 to $12 for each box.

It totally makes sense to mail boxes the cheapest way if you have a ton of boxes to send! But if you're only sending a couple, it's worth it to go with Priority Mail to get them there faster.

Shipping to the military is tons cheaper than for us sending to Guatemala. Not that any of this is inexpensive...but

A simple letter is $3.75. A 10 x 13 envelope with stuff runs us usually $10-$15.

The smallest box we sent to the kid with a couple boxes of girl scout cookies and some film for his camera cost us $30.

The first couple we sent had special stuff in them.  When I sent the rest of them I sent it regular mail.  I saved about $75 by doing that.  I also got really lucky with the book rate.  That one box weighed about 50 pounds.

It's certainly worth whatever the cost is...but it sounds like having an apo address makes a difference. Too bad the Peace Corps doesn't.

It actually suprises me the peace corp doesnt have something like this set up...but I guess they are in so many different places and do not have the numbers to support the system.  The APO is nice because you are only paying to New York!!  It is not considered going over seas!

I do think I'm going to find out more about that. I am sure someone else has checked into that previously, but it would be nice to be able to send packages more regularly. Often what we're sending is worth less than the package costs to mail.

Hey Green Team!

A friend of mine has a son who was set on fire and had half his tongue cut off. He wasn't expected to live and has had several set backs, but he is now out of intensive care and in rehab. Long road to go, but the road he's been on has been filled with miracles.

My good friend is returning from Irag today. After a full year, her tour is over, at least for now.

It is such a relief to have one of our soldiers safe and home.

Our prayers and support have performed miracles to send Janet home safely and I have every confidence they will send Zeph home safely as well.

Once again, to all our soldiers past and present; Thanks for your service, you all are the embodiment of honor!

You know, I spent a good chunk of the day up in St.Cloud today performing for the Vets at the V.A. Med center, that place is HUGE up there!! It was a full house too!! Lots of Vets and  younger soldiers who haven't deployed yet. Got to talk to a lot of really cool people and see some really cool people. After going room to room, and then going back down to the auditorium, it hit me pretty hard. While I was up on stage I told a little story about Zeph, and the whole place, the WHOLE place cheered for him! It was sooo awesome! I think we got it on video tape but I'm not sure. I had a lot of respect for the men and women over there, but I think today that respect grew by A LOT!!

MM - Believe it or not, you can find some wonderful dresses around St. Paul at some thrift/second hand stores, and for not too much $$$.

Yeah... I thought about that too... I kinda have some ideas of dresses that I'd like... lol I dunno... they have this tea thingie in like June or something like that that I may go to.. I mean I know em all and stuff like that so I'm in good w/em, but still... I'd have to give up hunting for at least a year, because I'd be so busy doing all of their events.

I used to go to Gannon's piano bar with a gal who had tried out lots of times.  There were always a few Kate's there.  They carried portfolios with their music and it was a good time.  That's where I was the night of OJ's white Jeep chase.  It was my birthday.
