Those are great photos, Zeph! Keep posting 'em! It makes me feel like you're not all that far away from home. You're as close to home as a post here at PP, or as a photo, or as a piece of jerky. ;-)

You know you’ve been in Iraq too long if:

You start to think “it’s not so bad here.”
You say, “it feels cooler today” and find out that the temperature is 110.
You call your tent (trailer if you're lucky) “home.”
You get excited at the idea of ICE.

You get excited with the presence of clouds in the sky.
You can measure distances based on explosion sounds.
You know the difference in sound between “Incoming” and “Outgoing.”

You enjoy waiting 45 minutes for the toilets to refill.
It’s ok to brush your teeth with the brown water that comes out of the faucets.

You have your own roll of toilet paper stashed in your tent/truck/back pack.
A shower with water that is neither to cold to hot and contains no mosquitoes is a priceless unattainable luxury.

You look forward to Mohammad’s Mango ice cream as the treat for the day.
Powdered eggs taste OK.
The quality of the plastic utensils becomes a hot dinner topic.
Lettuce for your salad is a luxury.
You have become to believe that ham should be grey in color.
No matter what animal you are eating, it will be flavored with curry.
Going to another mess hall is an adventure.

You automatically pick up two plastic forks whenever beef is on the menu.
You accept the fact that fajitas do not require tortillas.
Sliced hot dogs on a pizza served in a KBR Defac is good eats.
You can’t decide if you are going leave a brownie and some milk during a mortar attack.

You get a big smile when you see your pressed clothes at the KBR laundry.
You get a bigger smile knowing they didn't lose your laundry.
You get the biggest smile when you get back someone else's laundry and now you have more underwear than before.
Forgetting you military ID makes you feel naked...but pants are optional.

That is sooo funny!! I have personally had this conversation more than 5 times! And I grab 3 forks, I use 2 together, and keep 1 as a spare, for dessert if possible. (we have brittle, flexible forks)

The only ones that I cannot relate to, is the mango ice cream and the hot dogs on the pizza. Our laundry was lost, nut now is found, and our mail truck has been kidnapped. Kinda funny if you think about it...

Thats pretty good, GT! A lil ray of sunshine just popped up my way :) Thanx~!

Glad you liked it, Zephy! (The original list I saw was about twice as long as this, and I cut it down so it wouldn't take up so much space here.)

Your laundry was lost, but now is found? I suppose it got "baptized" by being dunked in water! ;-)

And who kidnapped the mail truck??? I hope there wasn't any mail in there! Oh...Would you call that "blackmail"?

The bigger boxes seem to take longer. Those two little ones he got a few weeks ago left the same day the one with the silver boxes did. SO you can see what I mean.

I haven't been through the other one yet, I have been online with Zephs wife, (still am) but looks to be a lot of books

The girls all loved their silver boxes!!! They send many many thanks!!

I almost got a hug, until I told them I didn't send them... Ok, maybe it was the wedding ring, but I can dream can't I?

Hey... they are starting to get our audio greetings up on K102(finally)

I guess mine was played during the hunt... It is not on the website yet , though :(

They were recorded before K102 left here, on Jan 2nd

so some are a little dated, but if you are interested to hear from us, that is a good place to do it

Boy's hockey tournament this coming weekend.  We're bound to get a snow storm.  It's a tradition.  Me, I'm driving up to Cotton to look for Great Gray owls on Saturday.

Where is Cotton? I've heard a lot about the Great Gray Owls. That would be cool to see them!

SOunds like congrats to your sister are in order soon??? That is pretty cool... :)

I am glad I made it back too... the route we took is pretty well traveled, and pretty 'safe'... but I don't like to get too complacent on the trips nonetheless... it was the first trip I went to a 'locked and loaded' status, I didn't even do that on the way up here ( I am afraid of blowing my head off while driving down the road...)

Spring already??? Thought it was hot here... felt like it was 80 degrees today...

I hate sweating... especially in March :(

Cool!  That's pretty much on the way up to Cotton off of 35 a bit.  Thanks!  I think we'll check that area out first.   Kettle River is west of Moose Lake.

Grandpa Dan Zachary

Hi Zeph. Enjoyed the pictures. Post more if you can.

Tom is in gun safety program now through local gun club. He is so interested in guns that we figured we better get him in a class that teaches him safety. For only $10 they are teaching him not only gun safety, but hunting rules and regs, bow hunting stuff, videos each class, etc. They sure are piling on the homework for him. Couple of workbooks, state regulations book, etc. It is really intense. I've learned a bit just being there with him. If he passes his final exam, the state will send him a certificate so he can get a hunting liscense if he wants to.

Not much else new.

I'm sure I'm repeating myself, but I'll say it again.  I had four grandsons born in the year 2000.  What a group they are!  Also, I have a huge extended family.  My sisters and I had 33 children between us.  We used to vacation together for a week every summer.  Now one of my sister's ten and their spouses and children and my seven and spouses and children vacation together every July.  We take over the whole resort.  It's a ball!  That adds up to 50 people.  Fortunately for us, they like us at the resort.
