To be honest, a lot of what's in the first two clues isn't supposed to make sense. At least not yet. But they will. In previous years some of the early clues seemed kind of strange, and yet by the end of the hunt, they were pretty much figured out completely once there was some additional information to work with.
The treasure once was already hidden in a box of cards at Newell. I am pretty sure this has an underlying meaning- maybe that it just means CARD. But he is not gonna waste a whole clue on what its hidden in without telling us a little more. At least not this clue. Its NOT in a Bicylce card box.
It could even be that a past hunt with the deck of cards was Newell so look there. That is taking 2 steps. Bicycle ride = cards= Newell.
What if clue 2 is telling us that the the other clues mean a particular CARD game? Like clue one could mean the game of Bridge -take to the next step and it is a real Bridge.
a field goal and animal could = WILDCARDin sports = football the 'payday' would be securing the Wild Card = football thats taking 2 steps with 3 ideas from the clue
moment of dark for card games makes me think of Dungeons and Dragons -any park with a dungeon in it? :)

IMPORTANCE
clue 1 -BE the animal - get down on your hands and kneews and crawl low cause even though its on the ground -it could be in a tree hole or between something that looks like a field goal. Lay low to the ground and pretend to see the park through the eyes of squirrel. I personally like the idea of laying down on the ground in the park ;)
Bigger than Rice Park :( I hate it when you rule out Alice so quickly.
ok, back to try to get 1 more hour of sleep
-I heard this is gonna be a cold week! At least Kitch didnt put his hunting gear away. haha  I somehow get this numbness during the hunt tha helps me get through the cold for 2 weeks- it is weird that I can do it during January for that 2 weeks BUT when it comes to any other time of year I cant handle the cold weather. It must be a mindset or something. now I am just blabberin. crap I thought it was earlier than it is, the alarm just went off!!!!! so much for 1 more hour.... gotta go get coffee!
bbl -I gotta go sieze the day! I may have to get CM to teach me how to powernap- haha

What a beautiful day out there! Crank the tunes! I have already been out to Roseville and back -WOW! I can't wait to get Whitney to school so I can go run! It's an amazing day!
(trying to keep positive since I heard it was supposed to be so damned cold this week)
[Edited 2 times. Most recently by on Mar 8, 2005 at 06:08am.]
I don't think it's really supposed to be all that cold. I seem to recall highs in the upper 20's and 30's. Not as nice as some of the weather we've had, but it certainly could be worse.
some of this is wrong I'm sure, but these were my first thoughts on the clue before I seen that it's all figured out already.
score a payday and score a feild goal. Score twice? Music score? Also there are three periods in the clue sent via e-mail but only 2 on the one posted yesterday? Is the puncuation correct AW? moment of dark will hold the way to keep score- shadow a moment of dark/count the shadows from the lamp posts or trees maybe?
still think 6pm makes the most sense though so just about a half hour away now we'll have Clue #2. -AW
Glad you think so. I like midnight. 3rd shift works better with a midnight clue. But it's your hunt! :)
I guess I'll just say right now, don't worry about the puncuation. I can't think of anywhere in any of the clues where it is meant to be significant. When writing in poetry form sometimes I think to put in a period and sometimes I don't.
Glad you think so. I like midnight. 3rd shift works better with a midnight clue. But it's your hunt! :)
Funny, I would think it would be rather frustrating to get the clue just as you have to start your work shift. I would think it would be better to get the clue earlier when you can actually go out and look for a bit before work.
It's nice to think about the clue at work and if it's good go out at 3am when nobodys around to get it. or otherwise go out in the morning and pick it up. Then theres the long wait for the next clue while I'm sleeping, so it goes by faster.
A Bicycle ride will be your guide To what you are looking for And in the park a moment of dark Will hold the way to keep score
And the previous clues:
Clue #1
Come make your bet on the trickiest hunt yet. As you sometimes take not one step, but two. You’ll be all set and not have to get wet If the same, only different is what you do.
A treasure renowned, one lost, another found Ponder if we were the animals as you stroll To be treasure bound, search on the ground And score a payday if you make a field goal
Icesis2 wants to know if anyone knows where she can go this morning for a coffee shop with A GREAT ATMOSHPERE and a GREAT VIEW (nice windows -not your house Kitch!)
There's a coffee shop on the corner of 6th and Maria, kitty corner from the St Paul Metro State campus, that has pretty good atmosphere and it has a decent view of St Paul. I can't remember the name.
good thing I'm outta town...
I'd be drunk trying to find it on the last clue...
I'll be busy turning 40. That's when Jake found yours 2 years ago AW.

There would have to be a lot more snow before I could even think about hiding it at Alice.

Yes, there are all kinds of deer signs and trails in Battle Creek.
