Just downstairs.  I was standing next to all the extras who were driving the "vintage" cars.   The walkie said that Charlize was about to film a scene where she stops at the red light and puts on make up......smoke break was too short:)

Yeah, that must have been a second unit production.  Other than the first time being educational, those scenes are pretty lame IMHO.  I'm sure the next shot on their list was one of a stop light changing colors.  Whoo Hooo!!!

I suppose the big name directors had to start somewhere.

lol THX! I was thinking it'd be funny to see all the gawkers just watching the movie production.

Too bad they didn't shoot now, what with this snowy stuff out there...

METHUEN, Mass. (AP) - Two men digging up a small tree in Massachusetts, found more than just roots.

The men uncovered a wooden box, which contained nine rusty tin cans filled with one-, two- and 20-dollar bills. There were about 1,800 in all, dating from 1899 to 1929. There also were some gold and silver certificates as well as notes from local banks at the time.

It all added up to more than $100,000 dollars.

The men took the money to an antique dealer, who verified the authenticity of the bills.

There are several theories as to who buried the treasure, including bootleggers or maybe bank robbers.

it all added up to more than $100,000 dollars

WOW!!!

And that's only the face value.  I bet the individual collectors value or the value of the entire box as a whole will be huge!!  I foresee Sotheby's in their future. Damn nice find!!

Too bad they didn't shoot now, what with this snowy stuff out there...

Yeah!  What's up with the white stuff?!?

...no kidding...I'm thinkin' that they made a BIG MISTAKE...money is all based on it being RARE...now they could flood the collectors markets with that much...

I'd think....but what do I know....

Light Rail at night
www.metrotransit.org

We can't take credit for first celebrating the quixotic qualities of the city as seen from a light rail car--that goes to Southwest Journal columnist Robert Gerloff, who last year wrote: "As seen from the street, the city often looks flat and two-dimensional, with endless blocks of building facades facing out like a huge stage set. However, like some giant three-dimensional video game, the light rail line twists behind those formal facades, swoops over the streets, and shoots along corridors far from the normal grid. The first time I rode the light rail I was so disoriented that--despite having lived here for 25 years--I didn't have a clue as to where I was. The effect is exhilarating. I felt as if I were seeing Minneapolis for the first time." Perfect. But what he didn't mention is that, at night, the city-by-rail becomes even more romantic. Especially with a warm flask and a hot date.

personally..I'd rather have a warm flask in a st. paul park on the river during a few special days in the middle of the winter.

Lee's and Dee's

161 Victoria Street North
St. Paul
651.225.9454

It's largely a myth that you can't get good barbecue in the Twin Cities--scores of places do up barbecue in some sort of "authentic" style. The trouble with that, of course, is that paying homage to some variation of barbecue feels anything but authentic. Great barbecue here is rare. Some exceptions to this faux home-cookin' aesthetic this year were the old standby Market Bar-B-Que on 14th and Nicollet and the upstart Big E's down the road on 18th and Nicollet. But Market suffers from being a little too familiar and Big E's was closed for a spell and is now under new ownership. That leaves St. Paul's Lee's and Dee's as tops for most authentic barbecue. Opened by Lee Smith and his wife Dee 12 years ago in St. Paul's Summit-University neighborhood, near Selby-Dale, this fewer-than-10-booth storefront feels more like something out of Smith's home state of Mississippi than Minnesota. Lee's and Dee's serves real soul food appropriate for what was once Rondo, St. Paul's long-gone African American neighborhood. Some say the crisp, grease-free catfish here is the best in town, and the place gets major points for its smoky, chewy rib tips. The true test of any real barbecue joint, though, is the pulled-pork sandwich, and the one here does not disappoint: Delicate shreds drowning in a sauce that leans more toward honey than vinegar, but not too much of either, on a simple white bun. (One quibble: The hot sauce isn't nearly hot enough. But then again, this is Minnesota.) Smith gets his meat from a company in South St. Paul, and his prices reflect the aesthetic of a local small-business man. (The catfish and pork sandwiches are both under $6 with fries; a rib dinner runs less than $10, and a full rack of ribs less than $20.) The only notable decorative touches are some personal photos of folks like Don King and Ice-T dining in with Lee and Dee, old-school style. And that, folks, is authentic.

I'd give them 2nd place...I feel that Roster's is better..

U Otter Stop Inn

617 Central Avenue Southeast
Minneapolis

Ask anyone who's ever launched into "Purple Rain" on the encouragement of a roomful of strangers and a half-dozen cold ones: Karaoke is empowering. Like double vision in reverse, these often-hideous forays into barroom crooning blur the distinction between audience and performer, magically morphing glamorous superstars and fans into single sweaty entities. And nowhere is that comradeship more apparent than in the tiny U Otter Stop Inn. This triangular neighborhood watering hole, squatting quietly at the cusp of Northeast and Marcy Holmes, can't even accommodate a legitimate pool table (there's bumper pool, but if more than 10 people show up it gets repurposed as a drink holder), much less a karaoke stage. The result is an environment where, half an hour into the show, everyone smells like everyone else, and no one's more than 10 feet from some lady pouring all she's got into "Total Eclipse of the Heart." That's brotherhood, sister. Cramped though it may be, the Otter's got a knack for cramming a lot into a little room, and on karaoke nights the seething crowd produces enough joviality to burst the little pub's seams. And while it's easy to want to bask in that halcyon glow, the Otter's sardine-can environs have a way of discouraging the spotlight-seeking breed of karaoke whore, another bonus in a scene consistently spoiled by the actually talented. After all, no matter how akin to Billy Idol you think you are, nothing puts things in perspective quite like belting out a spot-on "White Wedding" into the shoulder blades of an entirely disinterested bystander.

I always get 29 and 9 mixed up- I think Glover and Yamada are on different stations. I have been interviewed by both in the past.

I am pretty sure its 9 at 9! otherwise UPN 29 at 10??

This is the woman who did the interview this time. A follow up to last years deaths in the cave AND teenagers who found the gunpowder AND what the Mayor (dope) has done about cleaning up and sealing the caves and what is gonna be done still. I got my friend/geologist Greg Brick to participate in the interview since he made the last MSS (MN Speleology Society) meeting last week and I didn't-(I wasnt feeling well). As long as they don't put the clip of me using the word "destruction or destructive" I should be ok with it- you know tv (or maybe you dont) -they cut the interview up and usually make you look dumb and make the story go the way they want it. We will see.

Cave Tragedy Anniversary

Saint Paul officials are still looking for money to seal off the Wabasha Street caves a year after three teens died while exploring them.

Seventeen-year-olds Patrick Dague, Nick Larson and Natalie Van Vorst died last April from carbon monoxide poisoning in the man-made caves.

The entrance they crawled through has been plugged with dirt and sand. City officials have pledged to lessen the dangers for other teenagers.

A Saint Paul parks official says state and federal funds are being sought for a permanent solution. But specific funding sources have not been identified.

Early estimates put the cost of blocking the entrance at one (M) million dollars. City officials hope it will be substantially less.

Panhandlers wouldn't be required to pay a fee to obtain the license, nor would there be any real qualifications, other than to show up at a government office once a year, register and have a photo taken...
several hundred people applied for licenses when the ordinances were first passed in Ohio, but many of them were "fake" panhandlers ....
it restricts panhandlers' constitutionally protected free speech rights to beg...
