Cool pics, Zephy! Wow, you had good seats. ;-) That's so great that people like Toby Keith are willing to dodge the bullets to come sing for you guys! I hope you had a good time.
From what Zeph said about this being only the 2 nd time that some one was there.......Toby Keith is obviously one that gives a damn that he visits.........he is loyal to the troops form what I have read on him.......wasnt his late father a vet?
That's pretty cool that they were there to entertain you guys Zeph. I am glad that there are some entertainers who will go to such lengths for you and the others.

We are finishing up some very early prep work for going home... kinda exciting, like it is closing down... but kinda nauseating because we still have another 4-5 months or so before I see my wife and kids again...
Crazy stuff... I think I am racking out early tonight... I have tomorrow off, and I usually sleep all day... Think I will do a change of pace and try doing it at night, never know it might be fun!
Have a nice day off, Zeph! Don't worry...The months will go by quickly enough. Just think, next month it will only be 3-4 months before you come home! ;-)
oo-oo-oo.... We can no longer accept packages that arrive here after 1 July, so if you were sending me packages, I think to play safe, they should not be mailed after 1 June or shortly thereafter.

Man! Some of us are waking up with webbed feet!!!!!!
What does a gentleman do standing up, a lady do sitting and a dog do with one leg raised?????.........Shake hands! (heard that on Benny Hill today and about split a gut.)
Happy Memorial Day Zeph! I hope they are treating you well over there.
My son and I went to the Red Wing airport to see "Wings of Freedom" show yesterday (Sunday). They had all the WWII planes there and did a great reenactment of the attack on Pearl Harbor. Real Zeroes flying around with a Mustang chasing them, explosions in the field and a really good narrator telling the story. They had a lot of WWII jeeps, people in uniforms of the Allies and Nazi's, halftrack, a Sherman tank, etc.
We went into a tent with rifles and such and I asked my son to name them. That's a sten, that's a MP40, etc. The lady working the tent was shocked and said "that's right." I couldn't help but laugh because he is really into that stuff.
We also met several veterans from WWII. One guy told us that he had orders to go into Japan and take out as much early warning sytems as he could before getting caught or killed (suicide mission). We were planning another D-Day type of invasion at the time, and he was suppose to go in two days before everyone else. Of course, we dropped the bomb instead. He was in the Pacific fighting for 38 months without getting shot. Amazing man to talk to!
Maybe next year we can take you and your family there. I think you would like it.
GDZ, that sounds like a really cool air show! We like WWII history and the old warbirds. They usually have some shows in St. Paul during the summer. Sometimes they have hangar dances too, which is fun!
sounds like a good time :) I am sure he was drooling all over that stuff :)
Thanks for all of the well wishes on Memorial day too :)
I got to see some stuff on tv on memorial day, was kinda neat. Other than at home on leave, I have watched tv less than 5 times since March 04... crazy. It was pretty cool, I got to see the big motorcycle ride into Washington DC, I saw 'The Wall', which was pretty cool, since my wifes uncle is on there, and it really meant a lot to me... With a lot of strange and lucky things that have happened, I really think he is here to watch over me. Even if he really isn't, I still have that warm feeling of protection and comfort over me, which is good enough in itself.
I was reading an article in the Stars and Stripes today, and it showed a memorial service on memorial day for a guy in the brigade we are in. It kinda got me to realize where I am... (as if you can forget)... (referring to the memorials)"This is the third one we have done in a week."
Just to quote some of it, and to avoid major lawsuits... It is from the 30 May, 2005 Stars and Stripes... By Terry Weaver
The chapel at Tigerland, part of the U.S. Military's massive Camp Victory (that is where I live) base near Baghdad International Airport, has had 30 memorials since the Brigade arrived in Iraq in late October, said Lt. Col. Robert Baker, the head chaplain.
Doesn't really sound too bad... considering where we are and what has been going on in the area... until you read this
One memorial in January was for seven men, he said. A Bradley was hit by a massive roadside bomb and six men from Louisiana and one from New York were killed. Four were from Houma, LA.
On May 23, the memorial was for two men from another infantry battallion, the 1st Battallion. 156th Armor Regiment. SPC Bernard Sembly, 25, of Bossier CIty, LA., and SGT Robin Fell, 22, of Shreveport, LA., were shot while on foot patrol in Baghdad.
It is crazy... so many, so young... I even feel old in comparison to them, and I am just 31... over 30 memorials, most were for multiple people... I am so thankful that I am in a signal unit, and a mechanic and I rarely have to leave the wire... I still can't stand this brigade's leadership... But I have a lot more respect for the men and women in their companies, I know I wouldn't want to go out and patrol everyday...
---Hats off to them---
OK, so on a better note, I am kicking butt against my roommate in slots from www.freeslots.com
I think I have him by about 11000 credits... hehehe
"Even if he really isn't, I still have that warm feeling of protection and comfort over me, which is good enough in itself."
Maybe it's because we are praying for you every day! ;-) So glad to hear you have that warm feeling.
I came across that article about the guys at Tigerland the other day and wondered if you were familiar with them. It is heartbreaking to hear about the heroes who have fallen. We were watching a Memorial Day Concert on PBS, and I just got choked up at every story, sometimes because of sadness and sometimes because of pride in what so many brave men and women have sacrificed in the name of freedom.
All I can say is, you and your fellow soldiers make us proud, and we love you!!!
It was very interesting. With the Zero's buzzing around and the single American plane chasing them, it really gave you a good idea of what it must have been like.
(man, that sounds weird)...
I know. I am just getting used to being called grandpa myself. What is even more weird is your grandma is a great-grandma (several times) and grandpa Bob is a great-great-grandfather! Also weird is that I called you a good kid early in this thread and then it dawned on me that you have kids of your own and you are off serving in the military!
Time goes so fast. It doesn't seem that long ago that we were saying goodbye to you and now you are packing things up to come home already. Only a matter of days now Zeph!
I saw 'The Wall', which was pretty cool, since my wifes uncle is on there...
Zeph, you come from a long line of such heroes. My wife has a book about the Mc Keehan family (your great-great grandpa Kit married one) and in that book there is someone who served in every war that America was in including the Revolutionary War! You are somehow related to each of these people. I am sure that you know that Kit was in the Spanish-American war, two of his sons (Noel and Gail) saw action in Europe during WWII and were highly decorated, Grandpa Bob was in the Pacific somewhere, I believe that your mom's cousin Jimmy in Florida was in the first Gulf war, etc. I will have to dig out that book and show you sometime when you get back. It is very interesting-especially Gail and Noel. You are carrying on a fine family tradition!
---Hats off to them---

they shouldn't be showing those pictures, they should have never been taken, and for dawn sure shouldnt have been put on the front page of a weekly magazine.
Agreed.
Makes you wonder who is behind that camera and why they did it. Was it just some young person trying to make a quick buck selling such a picture to a newspaper or what? It shouldn't be too hard for the Army to figure out who had such access and took that picture.

You have a great weekend Zeph. I found out today that I need to take a trip to Arkansas to bury my grandmother (my dad's mom) this weekend. Hopefully I can return to these boards sometime next week.
On the bright side, it will be the first time in many years that my parents, my sister, my brother, my aunt and uncle, cousins and myself will be in the same place at the same time. It will be good to see them all again.
