That is pretty cool Kitch- I would love to tell you all about both parks but I know you could probly GOOGLE it, But, I am working on another project in my life at the moment.

One tidbit though- a woman, back in the early 1900's, was married to a doctor from Chicago-they were divorcing...she was in love with another man. She couldn't marry him for a year after the divorce was finalized (law back then). She was very distraut and depressed over the whole situation I guess and went out to Como Park (wearing one of those dresses of the period-high colar -poofy long floor length skirts) .... she kinda made a scene in front of a police officer. She rented a boat from the pavillion and asked where the deepest part of the lake was. She paddled part way out in the lake and then came back into shore for a bit...then she went back out and they say she tried to rock the boat but it wouldn't tip over. She stood up and walked right off the edge of the boat into the lake. They drudged the lake and found her at the bottom about 22 feet down.

So now thats 2 Como Lake stories for yah- Charlie Pitts and her (I can find the newspaper article if you want to see it or try to find her name again).

As far as Harriet Island goes: I could tell you many stories of people who jumped from the High Bridge. And many people drowned when Harriet had the swimming area back at the turn of the century.

Damn straight.... having had my mom go through breast cancer a few years back, and an aunt recently, heres hoping everything turns up okay!

Just went and picked up my mower that was being repaired.  The guy left a message on my answering machine yesterday saying it was $40 and when I went to pick it up he said $30.  So I tell him that he said $40 when he called and then I think, why am I arguing to pay more??  He laughed and said it was $30.  :)

I considered walking up there and pushing it home but thought people might think I was getting dotty(er) in my old age pushing a mower down the street.  Now I'll wait for my son to stop after work and lift it out of the back of my truck.
