what I want to see is how a members folder will look and function here. Can one of you who has one start a folder and copy your html into it so we can get a feel for what it will look like and how it will function.

Some kind of disclaimer needs to be put about this forum being an 18 years of age and older place.

You can create folders and discussions here to experiment with the Web Crossing 5 software. These aren't necessarily discussions that will be preserved. If you find you want to preserve a discussion or folder, it might be necessary to export it so you can import into the "real site" later.

Hey Mark and/or SYSOP - Do you mind if I post a link to here from pf?

Yes you can post this link. This is a test site, but mostly a site to collect pledges for membership fees and donations so we all have an idea of the investment collectively being pledged by a subset of the membership. And it's a place to discuss how to morph this is interim test/discussion/pledge site into the customized site you all want.

Oh we will have egrams and who's here. We just need to decide which is the best package to use for the new forum.

Is what OK? You mean creating a member folder and importing stuff to customize it. Yeah you can give that a try -- I don't know what depends on scripts that are PF-specific. But this is one of the reasons to open the doors early. This is a place and time to experiment all you want.

Ok...I did a little test here :

Without Moderator controls I couldn't do much, but as you can see, HTML coding, including tables and some CSS seems to work fine.

Mark...HELP!!! :sheepish:

OK...was testing out a forum. Played with it for a while, and found it to be amazingly customizable. But I ran into a snag. I attempted to put a snippit of CSS into the Header Banner for the forum and now when I go in there I just get a blank page. Could you possibly remove the CSS I put at the top of the banner section so I can get back in there???

There a few other things I'd like to try out.

By the way....I attempted to place the CSS there because I couldn't find another place for it. (on PF I have my CSS in the banner coding and it works there.) There was one spot where one could edit the CSS for the folder, but when I tried that it didn't work. Maybe it's something I didn't figure out yet??? :worried:

If you can't fix it, maybe we can just delete the botched one and I'll start a new test one.

HAPPY FATHER'S DAY TO ALL FATHERS

  • When a father says "no," he really means, "ask your mother."
  • Your father knows more about you than you think he does – but you can trust him not to tell.
  • Always agree with your father. Then he cannot say "I told you so!"
  • You may fool mother but you canÂ’t fool dad – he pulled the same stunts
  • There is no such thing as a father without radar – itÂ’s standard equipment.
  • There are always exceptions to dadÂ’s rules, but he is the one that decides what they are.
  • If you have outgrown your need for fatherly advice, be sure not to mention it to him.
  • No matter what is broken, dad has a tool that can fix it or render it unfixable.
  • If dad does not have an answer, he will pretend not hear the question.
  • FatherÂ’s memory is always better than yours, especially when you borrow money.
  • A fatherÂ’s love is priceless but a big screen TV is not

Hey Mark - Any info on the current status of pf today? Is there an ETA of it getting up and running?

    I did see this now

    The Peoples Forum Status

Last Updated: 10:30 AM Pacific Time, Friday, June 10, 2005

THE PEOPLESFORUM DATABASE IS CORRUPT - THE SITE IS DOWN FOR REPAIR

Peoplesforum.com is scheduled to end operations on Able Minds servers after midnight PST June 30, 2005. Lance Brown hasn't yet made any announcements about moving the peoplesforum.com web site. Please contact Mr. Brown directly for more information on the status of his plans.

Peoplesforum.com is presently hosted by Able Minds who is displaying this message to inform peoplesforum.com users of the current outage. Mr. Brown hasn't updated http://www.pfanatics.com in many months so it's unclear if/when it will be updated next.

The pledge form stuff is mostly implemented by Tim, but he's put time into fixing some issues here that users were complaining about (email addresses showing, a webx default), adding egrams, etc. So he didn't quite finish it but when he does there will be a prominent link.

I am importing the webx database now from the export file. Lance and I have communicated about this. He wants me to see if I can get PF a clean database again that doesn't keep crashing ("core dumping" in unix). I don't haev an ETA -- I really don't know if it will for sure (we've had problems once before importing PF). And I have no idea if it will be done on Sat or take longer. It has to import data that is going to recreate a 5 GB database. It will be smaller if it succeeds when it's done, but still there is a ton of stuff to import.

I'm just trying to keep my promises. Also some people do want to export data. And I'm giving Lance a chance to have a non-corrupt database by working on the export/import now. It's importing so we'll see if it succeeds to the end.

PF might stay open through July because some folks are talking about putting up the $620 I said I needed. I will honor that if the money comes specifically to keep open PF. This will give us more time to get this together anyhow. And I'll be on vacation July 1 to 11 also.

Thank you, Mark, for attacking that PF database import job! I suspect there are others, like me, who have things they want to save from PF.

It is MUCH appreciated. Good Luck!

Last night when I received an egram, it worked the same way as in PF...The square box flashed in red and when I opened it to read, the box was the same size as PF...

Today I received an egram and instead of the egram box flashing like in PF, a red bull's eye turned up...When I clicked on it, I got my message but the egram box stayed very small, the size that it does when you click on'hide' or 'show' your name...Hard to type in such a small area...

Will it go back to the regular size to read like in PF?
    Sat, 06/11/2005 - 11:42 AM Permalink
    Clue Master

Yeah, Thanks Mark. I hope it does work and some people can pony up enough to keep it running for another month. I won't be since I plan on spending it here. But I do hope you can get it up so we have some time to pull things off of there. Plus it would still leave a decent taste in people's mouths if you didn't leave Lance with a screwed up site once you pulled your servers on the 30th.

I see the same #'s between the @'s no matter what properties I check on. You must only see your own. Not sure

Oh, and one feature I really like is that you can post a picture directly without going back and editing. Plus you can add a picture during an edit. Both things weren't possible at pf. You couldn't even do a spell check at pf without it loosing your attachment.
