It sounds like we'll have a couple of months to play with the new site before they actually ask us to pony up anyway. I like the site so far. I just don't know if there will be enough members to support it right off the bat if he's not advertising it on pf somewhere at all. I plan on paying though. If it continues to stay like this format anyway.
We will pay too. I like the format of PF. I think that there will be enough support. We should figure a way to inform the rest of the crew where we will be. So they can find us come hunting time. Dan will put something on Coolertimes and I am sure Ares will post it on cooler crew. Any other ideas?
i'm kinda torn here as to my own personal preferences.
on one hand, its a familiar style to all of us even if it doesn't have all the bells and whistles that pf has. in addition, i don't have to worry about what happens when 800 people hit coolercrew.com at 1130 at night for two weeks, and not hosting a forum come that time of year wouldn't make me shed any tears.
on the other hand, the pay to post model doesn't do much to prevent average joe lurker from lurking (and i'm talking about more than just the lurkers here), because posting is the only privilege you end up paying for. we could (although we may not) end up in this very same spot a few years from now if mark decides his business model isn't working out the way he'd have hoped it would.
fortunately, in the event that the ableminds forum doesn't end up working out, i've got the script to archive it all, and most likely will be doing so anyway over the course of time there, as a "just in case" measure. we've got numerous options available to us for post-june. what i'm interested in doing is seeing how many folks out there would be interested in writing our own forum software, based on whatever's free out there, and tweaking the code so that it'd work the way *we* want it to. so that discussions end up in a flat format like these are. so that it has the possibility of being a distributed database system so that even if we have a single system during the off season, we could bring others online as mirrors during the peak season. of course the second feature there would involve volunteers who have a broadband connection that they are allowed to host web servers on who'd be willing to shell out some bandwidth to make that a reality.
i'm in favor of the ableminds site, definitely, but its something i want to approach cautiously as a long-term solution.
Dawg and I will pay $9 something a year seems like a good deal, I know WC is $12. I agree with ares we should look in to setting up our own form in the future, I don't have a lot of cash now but I would be happy to donate my design skills.
PF is really quiet today for 8am on a friday...I'm sure with all the issues the past few days is part of the reason.....

Ableminds is going to be slow for a while..
:(
Ares--- I know that a BB of our own would be a great way to move forward...but I honestly think that a webcrossing forum is out of our price range......but it is the format that we have all become to love. (took me only a year to like it)
in case any of you are interested white bear lake is having a medallion hunt for manitou days. the first clue is in this weeks white bear press and then they will have a phone number for the other clues each day. its only worth 250.00 bucks but its the thrill of the hunt. I dont know if im eligible because my wife works for a branch of the sponsor i will post more info over the weekend.

Huh... I didnt think I had that many posts under this name... this will be #705
I dont think I'll be beating the 1591 posts that the VJ name has though, before this place goes kaput for good. I should pull a Hulk Hogan, and bring it back from retirement for 9 more posts, and then leave it at a nice, solid 1600.
Its dark in the arena, and the fans scream for more action...
suddenly, entrance music hits... (we'll go with Chicken Huntin, since this is the old clown screen name), and green and purple lights flash all over the place, ans the screaming fans, rise to their feet, knowing who it is, and that they havent seen this guy in a while....
out comes Violent J, waving a hatchet, just like oldschool medallion hunting style, and sporting the traditional black and white face paint...
he walks down the entrance ramp, and approaches the ring (comeon man.. im a rasslin fan), slappin 5's with fans along the way... he gets in the ring, to a deafaning roar from the crowd, as well as some old hardcore fans that "try" to start a "you sold out" chant... and then he grabs a mic, and cuts some bad ass promo on whatever jobber is about to come out to face him, in this.... his last match....
After battling with this new jobber kid for nearly 45 minutes, and having been cut open on his forhead, early on in the match, by a cheap shot, with brass knuckles, that the referee didnt see... they take the action to the outside of the ring, near the commentary table... the announcers run for their lives, as VJ kicks the jobber in the gut, and then hoists him onto the table....
he grabs a metal folding chair, and raises it high in the air, as the crowd goes wild, wanting hardcore stuff...
he bashes it into the jobbers head a buncha times, sending blood flying in every direction, as the fans start chanting "holy sh*t! holy sh*t!" (its edited cause its not a PPV, sorry).
Finally, VJ picks the jobber's seemingly lifeless body off of the table, and rolls him back into the ring... he then pulls out another table from underneath the ring, and slides it into the ring... he then proceeds to douse the table in gasoline (it was under the ring too... dont you watch wrestling at all, man?!?!), and light the sucker on fire.... the fans go wild, knowing whats coming next....
VJ then picks up the jobber, and carries him up the turnbuckle and proceeds to powerbomb the loser from the top, all the way through the flaming table, and to the mat...
and the cover!!
1!!!
2!!!!
3!!!!
the entrance music hits again, and VJ stumbles around the ring, obviously in tons of pain, but happy because he won the match, and got his 1600th post all at the same time.... he slides slowly out of the ring and makes his way back to the locker room, or wherever it was that he came from...
hopefully within the next bunch of years, i'll be done with this novel i've been in the process of writing since 2003.... its actually called "The Jobber" and is about this guy that tries to become a huge wrestling star, but always ends up on the low end, in small time independant federations and getting his ass kicked, while not making hardly any money, and being forced to wear stupid outfits, wrestle under stupid names, and has to put up with being belittled by the veterans he meets in the business.
Yeah, but I think that's what's making this a bit easier for us. We had no idea things could be better than where we were. We found out different. And am finding the same thing with the new place as well. Sometimes change IS good.

all options cost $$ ...and I'll pay........its just a matter of where can hang my hat.

BTW--home depot has a good sale on fiberglass handle shovels, rakes, and HOES.
Here's something for you to try and do Kitch - Find an older pf post than this one:
John Smith "Discussions" 12/1/95 5:00pm
I'm sure there is but I have to go to a meeting right now.

you bet i'll have it posted there.

I'm gonna miss this place. :(
Me too.
I see PF laying on the ground gasping for air.
This is a great place.
Not as sad as when Pioneer Press switched formats though.
